Recall that a court in Lagos last week ordered NAFDAC to warn Nigerians against taking Coca Cola and Fanta with Vitamin C as the substances used in the production of the soft drinks in Nigeria are harmful to the body when taken along with Vitamin C (Read here)
A
Nigerian businessman had a running with health workers in the UK in
2007 after he imported cans of soft drinks made in Nigeria and was
informed that the constituents of the soft drinks were hazardous to
humans as it had excessive levels of Sunset Yellow and Benzoic Acid. See more of the Health Ministers reaction as shared via his twitter handle after the cut..

What are they investigating abeg? Another way to allocate money for their yeye senate committee abi? Its simple, dont take Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) with Fanta or Sprite cos it already contains Vitamin C (Abscorbic Acid) as such taking both together will make the level of (Vitamin C) Abscorbic Acid in your system excessive. But come to think of it, why do blacks behave like dis? You will suck orange and still lick Vitamin C tablet.
GOOD
-D great anonymous now as Vivian Reginalds
Yes, of course. The Fanta & Coca-Cola composition if very different from that produced in the UK/USA. Guess what? It's largely unfit for human consumption as the analyses shows. NAFDAC betta get down to the bottom of this matta. Abi nah now daybreak reach una side?
The Federal Ministry of Health has issued a statement that the products are safe for consumption. I suggest we take the ministry's position because this is the highest heath authority in Nigeria
Can we learn to trust and believe the feedback from relevant health authority concerning this...a lot of you just type and forget the numerous corporate social responsibilities extended to Nigerians by the brand. The Federal Ministry of Health has given a position on the safety of consumption. So lets drink on..
We need to keep calm and understand the scenario first. The court is ruling based on UK standards which is odd. Yes the UK's is low compared to ours (you can see why they'd vex) but even ours is low compared to international standards. Anyway simply don't take Fanta with vitc C and you'll be fine o jare. A lot of drugs are either harmful or rendered useless when taken with soda anyway.
Thanks Honourable Minister for this bold step. I suggest it should be an interministerial panel of key stakeholders, while FMoH leads. This will aid policy review to protect the consumer and avert future reoccurrence.

This is a very simple case and am confuse why people are taking it to the extreme. I will give you an example... When doctors prescribe drugs, either for adults or kids, there is always a warning, don't take alcohol when using the drugs or vitamin C.... The other day I took my kid to the clinic I was told to stay away from any drinks containing Vitamin C, like Bob, Ribena ,caprisome or even Milo and I hid to the warning. Too much of everything is bad!&it has it side effect. Each day with different News on food, the other day a medical report said wheat is bad for the health, too much cassava is bad for the health, now sausage causes cancer, So, the question is what food or drink is actually Safe???? As healthy as milk is, when take too much of it, it purges you. Which is why I said its a very simple case, don't take fanta with Vitamin C simple
NAFDAC has certified that the contents are safe for consumption (in the right quantity), I think we should trust their judgement on this.
Setting standards for the use of production ingredients(chemicals) is not a new thing in the Production sphere across the globe. Each country/region has specified standard which is determined by some factors such as weather condition and temperature. I strongly believe that Fanta and Sprite are consumable since production standards have been met as certified by relevant constituted authorities.
