I think your question is dumb, Linda. Why aren't you talking about why the president is so obsessed with diminishing his wife's stature as the country's first lady? He's more concerned with making her a shadow than allowing her the space to make a difference as she sees fit. What if she's interested in other areas besides women and children and can be more effective in them? Why are others defining her mandate and not her? In other words, is Nigeria sitting back watching its most visible woman's oppression? If the first lady's so effectively contained, how are other women being treated and kept in their place?

She's the President's wife and should be allowed to run pet projects funded by people with similar cause/interests. A woman whose husband holds a political office should stand by her husband and not on top of her husband. Patience Jonathan stood on top of her husband not by her husband and was controlling things on her own. She really crossed her boundary. So i dont blame Buhari for abolishing the office of the first lady. That office is just a way to eat extra money. It is unecessary and totally uncalled for. As wife of the president, you enjoy many privilleges that your husband has like police protection etc. So why create a seperate office for yourself? It really doesnt make sense to me. That doesnt mean that as wife of president, you should not carry out projects like the stopping of child trafficking, early marraiges, women abuse on human rights etc. But if u must do any project, it must be approved by the government. In the first place, Aisha campaigned for him. Hers was not a "private" role before he became President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Even his daughters had enough of a public presence that they were known by Nigerians as Buhari's daughters. At that time, Buhari didn't come out to say, "My family life is private. Leave us alone."
So if a politician doesn't want his family in the public eye, don't let them take on a public presence. Don't let them give interviews or answer questions. Let them support you privately - away from the media and all the hoopla surrounding politics.
However, that is not the case here.
