Yet another revolt at 7th Army Division in Borno state

Just a week after soldiers at the 7th Division in Maimalari Baracks in Maiduguri, Borno state revolted against their former General Officer Commanding, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, the soldiers yesterday May 22nd revolted again at their newly posted GOC, Brigadier General M.Y. Ibrahim over unpaid allowances and ban on transportation services, Sahara Reporters reports.

Reports say at about 3pm yesterday, the soldiers gathered together and marched to the new GOC's office, shooting into the air and chanting "we nor go gree" songs. The soldiers were demanding for their unpaid furniture allowance which is N100,000 and other allowances as well as the reinstatement of Okada and Tricycle means of transportation which was banned by the new GOC. Continue...
The soldiers wondered why Okada and Keke Napep would be banned in the barrack since its the only affordable means for them and their families to move around considering the vast expanse the barracks occupies, and most of them don't own cars.
One of the soldiers told Sahara Reporters “If no okada [motorcycles] are allowed, then our small children have to walk to school and our wives will walk to market. Are we not suffering too much already?” he said.

At the office of the GOC, they ordered one of the Army Generals to walk around the barracks to feel their pain, pushing and shoving him intermittently.

This revolt is coming just a week after the soldiers in the Malmalari barracks revolted against their former GOC on May 14th, shooting at his convoy. He has since been redeployed to a different base and investigations on the mutiny according to Military heads is ongoing to ensure the soldiers who revolted are disciplined accordingly.

Too much confusion in Nigeria

For heavens sake, why will these military guys keep diverting funds for the soldiers especially in this life/death situation in Borno?
Military personnel in Borno are practically endangered species with the rate at which they are being killed by BH.
Why won't all bottlenecks and bureaucracy be bypassed so the soldiers can get what is due to them?!

Wonder how low motivated military would put up a good fight against Boko haram

To be honest, I think all religion should be ban from the face of the earth, islam, Christianity, judaism etc. Religion poisons everything, look at history and you will see that religion has killed so many people.

Sometimes I wonder what prompts certain decisions this men on top make. You deprive them of such necessities and expect selfless services I guess whereas greed is tagged on your forehead! Maybe this is the beginning of the End.

I fully support the soldiers on their protest "we nor dey gree" A lot of corruption is centered on the the military Personel chiefs incharge of the North East. The Defence hqtr should settle the soldiers allowances in other to boost their effort in fighting the boko-boys and rescuing the adopted girls

Dike F(xyz) said...

I just wish this Junior soldiers will kill those Senior soldiers who do not just Hold back their allowances, but also give Boko Haram information about their plans.

Some Northern muslim soldiers are the ones giving information to Boko Haram!!! They are working for Ali Ndume, Buhari, IBB, Atiku, El-Rufai, Adamu Ciroma and all the Blood Tasty Northern Islamic Idiots sponsoring Boko Haram.

The problem with this country is not about tribe, neither is it about religion,it about the elites, the political class be it civilian or military. They always make laws that are anti people just so that they can feel safe.
How can a commanding officer ban tricycle and bike.... without putting alternative means of transportation in place, and to make matters worse you refuse to pay them their allowances. This is just too much, dont blame them for revolting.

When a country refuse to pay it's security operatives their allowance or salaries then we ahould be ready for Insecurity and coup. ..Naija we close to that..our leaders should act like a leader asap.

We're suffering from the inevitable end result of a cataclysm of misappropriations and misplaced priorities. The soldiers who are expected to risk their lives to preserve national security, shouldn't they be well compensated. But the house of reps members who daily socialize and bicker while talking around matters are paid a handful of the nations budget. Doctors, Educational practitioners, civil servants are all groaning while some select few are busy sharing, looting, laundering and squandering their entitlements. Misplaced priorities is what's killing this country thanks to corrupt leaders.

na wa oh @ ordering one of the generals to work around the premises to feel the pain. lwkmd. i tot they respect their superiors. well whatever that happens , this soldiers have every right to be angry, cos the are in the lions den, every compensation should be paid to them and in time. another way round the new GOC was only trying to secure the barrack to make sure BH dont come in with bike or keke. but i think they should register the bikes that runs in the barrack or search all of them to avoid blast. that's my own opinion.

In other countries, the govt ensures that their soldiers go to school, they pay their fees to make them civilised human beings. Here we recruit just any riffraff and continue to treat them like trash, meanwhile d few educated ones are made bosses, they dnt go actually go to war, they sit in the officers mess and drink beer. Tell me, isn't it a matter of time before others feel cheated, to make matters worse they embezzle the money due to these men. We r in trouble o, when even the military is against itself! God help Nigeria.

Even in the face of adversity, some people are still exploiting from the already deplorable state of the Nation. I don't think things of this nature should even come up in the first place. These soldiers are risking their lives for this country and has the impudence to owe them allowances. Please.....you cannot fight a war from two fronts

To even think that we are depending on them to help us fight this Evil called boko haram.... And now this? Lord have mercy. And pls d authorities should give to them what is due to them n stop eating alone! Humans n greed!

The same group of people! Attempted to kill their former commander and now shoving around a General. This development needs to be nipped in the bud. Where a certain number of bad eggs start to get aggressive and murderous they need to be reminded of the oath they swore before joining the army. So they can either choose to be discharged honorably or lined up and shot to serve as a warning to other would-be mutineers.

i think the soldiers are right of their actions, this is not the time of zombie soldiers we have before, i was a soldier before in mid 9o,s nigeria army officers should respect soldiers who protect them day and night, authority stealing has to stop before house boy will becomes oga. former goc of that same div was my commanding officer in 73th battallion in elele rivers state, he,s a wicked man who denies us from going to church on sunday he ask us do labour (FATIC)military terms.message to my fellow gallant be you muslims or christians be in one mind and figth for your right, protect our president gej.i luv u guys, this is me i stand firmly on my words as a former infantary soldier i strongly support your actions, let me ask officers who are you without soldiers, why you guys don,t want soldiers to be happy? enough is enough change your ways and unite with your men because its unfair for soldier to revolts and is also unfair for officers to denials soldiers from their rigth.
