Quote of the day from President Jonathan

During a #‎BringBackOurGirls protest in Abuja yesterday, president Jonathan told protesters to direct their anger at Boko Haram and not at the government. He spoke through the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, who addressed the protesters;
“We must be careful not to politicize the campaign against terrorism. When a bomb goes off in Kabul, Afghanistan, the people of Afghanistan do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists.
“When a bomb goes off in Baghdad, Iraq, the people of Iraq do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists. When a bomb goes off in Islamabad, Pakistan, the people of Pakistan do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists. When a bomb goes off in Nigeria, we must all unite to fight the terrorists."

I'm sorry to say this Sir, but with all due respect you goofed.
If I can acknowledge you for the work done on the Benin-Ore road, why won't I hold you responsible when bomb explodes?
The first and foremost responsibility of every government is the security of lives and properties of its citizens.
If I may quote the Rwandan president Yoweri Museveni.
"Me Museveni to say that I've failed to protect my people and I call on UN,I'll rather hang myself. We priotized the national security by developing a strong army, otherwise Uganda would have been like Nigeria where militias escaped with school children"
Finall Mr president, we never saw Pontius Pilate crucify Jesus, but uptill date he's still mentioned whenever the story of the death of Jesus is told.
Just like history won't forget you for the second Niger bridge,so also history will forever remember the part you played during this trying moment of our country.

Absolutely true, but the reason why most people direct their anger at the government is because the government has not done enough to protect its citizen, they have not lived up to their primary duties, directing blame at them, is simply calling them to action

Now I know our president has completly lost it.His speech shows his vulnerabilty and lack of clue as regards how to tame the insurgency. Why for God's sake will he compare Nigeria with those countries? Why can't he compare Nigeria with america who have fought terrorism with passion? We blame the govt because the govt has failed us for years and people keep dying in their numbers. We blame him coz we voted him into power and he assured us of fresh air in return.we blame him coz he's the commander in chief of the armed forces. We blame him coz instead of going to chibok or sympathizing with abj victims,he rather chose to attend rallies and go for conferences.we blame him coz he's so clueless and irrational to compare us with all those islamic countries!

I agree with mr. President, its not his fault... I feel for the families who have their daughters kidnapped...if the like obi ezekwesili and Dino melaye want to really show support they should go to Borno state. The soldiers who are there fighting and dying are other peoples children

Anonymous said...

I agree 100% with the President on this. The protests have so far been directed wrongly at the Presidency rather than the devilish BH. This certainly would be counter productive. While the Govt is doing its bit the protesters should direct the protests at BH rather than Govt. Except probably there are other motives for these protests. These misdirected protests are strengthening BH rather than putting them under pressure.

I think Mr. Presido should check those reference records properly.. we can't not be fooled by Leaders who lacks administrative knowledge..Mr. Presido Nigerians are blaming u because your security strategy is not working and it is obvious that this Cowards BH are winning the War agaist africa most powerful military. . So Mr. PRESIDO be advice that as a Commander in Chief u are to take responsibility of security and not some miscreants blood tasty hooligans.. Stop justifying ur errors and re strategize.. there we Leaders before u and Nigeria was peaceful and secure while this hoodlums where in existence then.. take the fight to them and stop giving baseless Quotes. This is about the smartest thing he has said, since this issue began. We need to pray for our leaders, pray the Lord touches them and rules through them. Support them rather than fight them, because i'm sure that is exactly what these cowards want. They need to see a united people and know that we will all work against them.

Anonymous said...

Although I dislike his administration, he has a point. We should show anger to the govt as well as the terrorists who are the bad guys here. Too much attention on govt alone makes Boko Haram happy.

GEJ appears to be doing his best. But some people have just decided to play politics with the problems facing the country. APC with all its Muslim propaganda do not wish GEJ well. I don't like the APC. They've got too many Muslim fanatics and islamists.

Mr. President is getting it out-rightly wrong by comparing Nigeria to those violence-ridden countries. Are they his future model for Nigeria?

Is the president expecting us to pity him like people did during 2011 elections and not talk his responsibilities to his face?

Unknown said...

In as much as we may not be blaming government for every bomb that goes off in the streets of Nigeria, the government on their part should as well ensure that all the T's and I's, as far as security is concerned, are crossed and dotted respectively. It's unfortunate that irrespective of the huge amount of money we spend (or claimed to be spent) on security every year, we still don't have the matching arsenals to fight our internal enemies. That shows how vunerable this country is should an external aggression come over us. God help us

Anonymous said...

Of course he's right!

We shouldn't blame the people who we've entrusted the security of our lives and property into their hands. Let us instead, blame these blood thirsty vermins who have thrived under this corrupt excuse of a government.

So going by your logic Mr. President, if a merry band of robbers terrorise my street endlessly, I shouldn't blame the system that's supposed to prevent that in the first place?!

I think Mr. President just told us to fight our own battle.

But, Mr. President, in those countries you mentioned, when a Minister fails in his/her role, s/he resigns voluntarily; but why won't those in your cabinet do same if you want to compare us both?

Why can't you just do the needful and put your corrupt cabinet to rest by sacking everyone and then you resign too. That's what people in those countries do.

Oh oh oh, the cries of the soldiers that BH is better equipped or the hunters and people that have been seeking approval to join the search. Are these reasons not good enough to blame the govt? People die almost on a daily basis, imagine the state of mind of their immediate families and friends. The torture, the pains, the frustrations each a bomb blast. All these are enough reasons to blame the govt. May God intervern in our predicaments.

Is that the example we should be looking at? Maybe if those govt had been more vigilant and not allow Taliban and Alqueda to thrive in their backyard, The U.S govt wouldn't be manning drones over their territories. When it comes to good leadership, I doubt anyone would mention Pakistan and Afganistan. Ask anyone to list the top shit-hole countries in earth and I am sure Pakistan and Afhanistan will be in the top two, and now our mumu president is comparing us to them. Do you guys believe that if Bombs were going off every month or week in America, and the govt has no solution to solve it, that Obama would still be the president? Though we condemn Boko Haram, the docileness of this govt is what is triggering the protest. I am really vexing right now. @Bonario, your comments are the first I always want to read amongst many 'cos you come across as a very thoughtfu personl, but with this comment you just made, I dare say I totally disagree with you...it is far removed from the circumstances surrounding this whole saga, which obviously you have not fully considered, in all it's ramifications. The belligerent America, for instance, prides herself as a nation that sleeps with eyes wide opened, yet, they were flogged mercilessly even more times than they were willing to admit. Good thing was that, they came together as a people to form a formidable force against the terrorists consequent upon which Osama Bin Laden fell. But here, we're striking the shepherd and thereby taking side with these terrorists to pull down the head figure instead of strengthening him by prayer so he'll by God's wisdom be enabled to contend with these forces.
It's just unfortunate this is happening, more so, during Jonathan's govt, the motive being obviously sinister, selfish and antagonistic. "We will make his govt ungovernable", May have being taken as an empty threat, worse still is that we have a very short memory as a people. May we be healed from selective amnesia. Mark my my words, this govt will go down in history as the most vilified govt, at the same time, as the most productive. As for boko haram, they have an end!

Bonario you need to be very careful what you say. You can have an opinion but air it constructively. Empty barrels usually make the loudest noise. If it were Obasanjo, u won't have the liver cos u would be dead by now

This is totally disappointing, hiding your inefficiency under comparison with these countries. You should know that in these countries corrupt politicians are beheaded or stone to death. How many corrupt politicians in your administration have been beheaded or stone to death?

Everyone has a point to raise in whether we to blame the govt or the terrorist.... But when Jonathan said that "boko haram members are our brothers,so we should not kill them".....what do u think is the result. Spare the rod and spoil the child, so who do we blame...the parent (Mr President)...
How many times was shekau caught and he also escaped.. Its shows our security weakness...also yet we should blame boko haram for being better than our soldiers... GEJ should think before making statements, we no its not easy to govern a country, but when for every issue u duplicate committee to find solution and they never bring the result who should we blame, the person that instigated the committee. Mr President we may tolerate all bombings but we won't tolerate not getting our girls back...#bringbackourgirls

Yours is the most stupid and senseless comment I've seen on this blog. What a goofy analysis of the American war against terrorism. One American gave the order for the troops to move into Iraq and Afghanistan, that American sought all needed approvals from the democratic structures of America. That leader was never in denial and also took the blame when some Americans felt the order was needless, that leader is the President of the United States of America. WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA?

tell them, redirect your protest to the evil doers BH not our govt, our govt is trying.
