But you have a lot to settle with Awolowo when u get to heaven on the purported role you claimed he played in the Nigeria civil war of 1973 in ur book "there was a country". There is no doubt that the book is so tribalistic in both content, nature and character..You, Ojukwu, Awolowo & other veterans of d civil war have a lot scores to settle in ur eternal country

A great man.
Rest in Peace Pa Achebe....
I've been speechless and moist-eyed ever since I heard this news. Nigeria has lost a great icon and an irreplaceable literary giant. In a country where few good books are in existence,I mourn not just your loss but our fate.
You will be sorely missed Sir,I never met you but your works impacted me even much more than some people I have met one on one.
Will be whipping out Things Fall Apart 2 read one more time and 2 convince myself that though you are dead, your works live on,and that is what counts the most, the fact that the winds will not be able to wipe out the footprints you left in the sands of time.

RIP ICON. YOU ARE WORTH CELEBRATING. NOT ALL DESE FORTUNATE RETARDED POLITICIANS THAT ARE KILLING THIS COUNTRY
Anonymous @12:16 thanks for calling my attention to the date of the civil war.. It was mistake the war was actually between 1969 and 1970.. As per Awo's part.... I've read the book thoroughly, no doubt about the finger pointed at Awolowo... I've as well read several critics of the book in d course of my studies.. Maybe u only read the book without giving a logical and critical interpretations. But practically an igbo man myt not digest the book the way we Yoruba myt. NB: am not attacking the great Prof and am not being tribalistic........ ¤Prof. Achebe has written his name in gold on the rock of history for the generation yet unborn to learn. GN Prof.
oh death where is thy sting! A Legend is gone! Your foots print can never be wiped away from this mother earth. Posterity will always hear your story. Fare thee well our Legend and hero!
great man has passed..in deed things has fallen apart.. may ur soul rest in peace
RIP PAPA
We Nigerians just lost the truth, read most of his books and you will seee what I am talking about. 'There was a country' was a super classic. Nigeria is meant to be on the same level with UAE,Brazil and Singapore because we all started on the phase, but greed and corruption of past leaders didn't let this happen.RIP legend, you will forever remain THE TRUTH.
Oh no!! Another sage gone; another light out! Rest in peace, prof. Nigeria will never forget you.

RIP great sir. Thank you for your input
Is this all you can come up with? Shame on you, son of the promoters of tribalism, nepotism and war crime in Nigeria. Please don't spoil this thread with your hate-infested Yoruba mind. This thread is for civilised people.
I salute you our icon and giant. Sir your legacy lives on and no man can erase it.
RIP great man!
