Foremost novelist Professor Chinua Achebe dies at 82

Novelist, poet, professor, critic and the author of the most widely read book in African literature (Things Fall Apart) professor Chinua Achebe, has passed on. Professor Achebe died last night March 21 in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He had been ill for a while. He was 82 years old.

The legend has gone home. May his soul rest in peace...Amen.

But you have a lot to settle with Awolowo when u get to heaven on the purported role you claimed he played in the Nigeria civil war of 1973 in ur book "there was a country". There is no doubt that the book is so tribalistic in both content, nature and character..You, Ojukwu, Awolowo & other veterans of d civil war have a lot scores to settle in ur eternal country

I've been speechless and moist-eyed ever since I heard this news. Nigeria has lost a great icon and an irreplaceable literary giant. In a country where few good books are in existence,I mourn not just your loss but our fate.

You will be sorely missed Sir,I never met you but your works impacted me even much more than some people I have met one on one.

Will be whipping out Things Fall Apart 2 read one more time and 2 convince myself that though you are dead,your works live on,and that is what counts the most,the fact that the winds will not be able to wipe out the footprints you left in the sands of time.

I've read the book thoroughly, no doubt about the finger pointed at Awolowo... I've as well read several critics of the book in d course of my studies.. Maybe u only read the book without giving a logical and critical interpretations. But practically an igbo man myt not digest the book the way we Yoruba myt. NB: am not attacking the great Prof and am not being tribalistic........ ¤Prof. Achebe has written his name in gold on the rock of history for the generation yet unborn to learn. GN Prof.
