Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney, Eto'o among 23 Footballers Nominated For World Footballer of The Year 2011

 
FIFA today announced the names of 23 football players in contention for the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011,  simply known as World Football Player of the Year. It's listed below in alphabetical order.

Éric Abidal (France), Sergio Agüero (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Dani Alves (Brazil), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Cesc Fàbregas (Spain), Diego Forlán (Uruguay), Andrés Iniesta (Spain), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Müller (Germany), Nani (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil), Mesut Özil (Germany), Gerard Piqué (Spain), Wayne Rooney (England), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Luis Suárez (Uruguay), David Villa (Spain), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Xavi (Spain).

The coaches are listed in alphabetical order, first nationality and then team...

Vicente Del Bosque (Spain/Spain national team), Alex Ferguson (Scotland/Manchester United FC), Rudi Garcia (France/Lille OSC), Pep Guardiola (Spain/FC Barcelona), Jürgen Klopp (Germany/Borussia Dortmund), Joachim Löw (Germany/Germany national team), José Mourinho (Portugal/Real Madrid C.F.), Óscar Tabárez (Uruguay/Uruguay national team), André Villas-Boas (Portugal/FC Porto, Chelsea FC), Arsène Wenger (France/Arsenal FC).

The nominated footballers and coaches will be cut down to top three on December 5, 2011. The top 3 will be those with the highest number of votes.

Objectively, it's what players have done in the past one year and not what they have done in the past few weeks. V Persie is sure hitting some form and if he continues all through, he may be in the running next year.

I can't see anyone wrestling it from Messi this year. The guy is just "merciless!"

Van Persie should be in that list. He's the most potent striker in the EPL this year with 37 goals in 38 games (or vice versa). He should at least be in the top 23. Forlan hasn't done anything special since the world cup. This award is political now. Sneijder should have been in the top three last year.....

Obi; it dates back to the World Cup up until August; so i was told by my FA peeps. Forlan and Suarez are there because of the World Cup. That's why Silva and V Persie are not there. They have hit form now and again if they keep it up they will be in the running next year. Remember, there is Euro 2012 next year so the dynamics of the list will change.
