Christy Essien-Igbokwe to be Buried Today

 
The Lady of Songs who died on June 30 2011, will be buried today at Awka, the Anambra state capital after a week-long of activities to honour her.

Her public lying in state held on Thursday September 8, 2011 at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos and the commendation service held yesterday at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Anglican Cathedral, GRA, Ikeja.

I thought initially they said they're burying her in Lagos?

@1976AD, yea they said so, but her husband is from Awka, and its really against cultural norms for her to be buried outside. The only case where a married woman from that side is buried outside her husband's compound is if they are separated/wahala dey or maybe if she has no male children. Even the latter usually isnt the norm not to bury outside.
Probably after much consideration and prob talk with family, they decided to bury her in Awka, especially given the fact that she had 4 male sons for her husband.
