A "mermaid" sculpture rises in Germany's Alster lake.
The four-meter-high sculpture, designed by German artist Oliver Voss will be in place until August 12. Too damn scary. If I see this kind of thing at night, I won't sleep o. Continue to see more pics...
I find it so annoying seeing a female statue with her fat head Spreading her legs in the water. What's the point of that? Looks weird and suggestive to me.
She looks more like a drag queen sitting in the lake. I thought mermaids bottom halves were supposed to look like fish tails...?? Or maybe I watched Splash too much as a kid.
Abeg are dis white people okiie? Putting up dis kind of thing as a show off for people to com and see, only looking at it from d computer is even mind wrecthing not 2 talk of seeing it life!
I first saw these photos this morning on Yahoo and it gave me goosebumps.I wondered what was going on in the mind of the sculptor.
I hear people refer to it as Grand Mermaid or Bathing Beauty. I don't think it's a mermaid, since it doesn't have a tail and fins on the legs. I also think it's not a full sculpture, probably just a head and legs propped on something.
I guess this earn Oliver Voss(the sculptor) something in the Guinness Book of Records. Abi?
I think the title would have been "giving birth inside water". There is nothing mermaid here. I thought they said mammywater is very pretty, this one na wowo mammy water.Oyibo can be fetish too.
Nigerians are so backward and so up themselves! Go out and explore. See people condemning "oyinbo" people yet we all want to flock over there.
Someone created a great piece of art doing what he/she loves and probably getting paid handsomely in the process yet we criticise sitting behind our computers in our mediocre jobs/lives.
i agreed wif wt d last person said,we don't ave 2 be criticising people though its somehow scary bt den this is wt he/she knows how 2 do best,so we just ave 2 be creative and not condeming people.
charli, look at d cover picture very well..hmnnn, it seems to me dat d woman aka mermaid is about to give birth or wait a min...naaah! second glance, she's horny. c d man paddling hs canoe sef, see d guy position..right in d middle..d guy de wonder weda im fit kpansh d womermaid cos d thing big pass am make e no go swallow am oh! AM JUS SAYING
Actually I agree with Bo, the sculpture is looking too suggestive, and I mite be saying this because I have a slightly dirty mind, but I might not. I dont like the concept, the legs... isn't there a more dignified position? Anyway it's not my problem o jare.
LOL to me it looks like a sculpture of a woman having a water birth :) Mermaids are supposed to have the tail of a fish right? esp when it gets into water.
mermaid?i tot mermaid was suppose to be half human half fish but i could see a complete woman in a position of labour...but look scary ,good work though.brilliant idea.
That is a great masterpiece. Linda, I am glad you put it here to challenge our thinking.
Someone earlier commented that it was joblessness. I think this kind of thinking has left us in the abyss because we sort of tend to bury our creativity and later begin to complain that things are not working for us.
This joblessness will earn Germany plenty revenue in tourism. I wish we have this kind of joblessness in Nigeria. Guess how much we can make.
This is what make westerners more appealing because they think OUTSIDE THE BOX, whether you like it or not, it's UNIQUE and will bring out a lot of curiosity.
But Africans, na copy, copy, go kill us. Where's your imagination, innovative mind? and if we have it, we don't work on it to bring it into existence and be consistent with it.
Hi Linda, It is interesting to hear other people's take on this. I rather think it's cool though. The expression on her face is quite captivating. In this part of the world, there is another dimension to art. The way they see and appreciate art is eccentric but true. I wouldn't say it is a mermaid though as a mermaid would have fins for legs. Above all, a nice concept.
This is no doubt an exquisite work of art, really great. But of what significance is it, I mean, is it dr to scare people away or just a huge reminder that mermaids are in that sea? Relevance pls.
