A mum suffocated her two young children and placed their bodies in the boot of her car, a court heard yesterday.
Fiona Donnison, 45, allegedly killed Harry, three, and two-year-old Elise after her relationship with their dad broke down.
She is accused of murdering them to hurt her ex in the most extreme way possible. She then allegedly wrapped the youngsters in holdalls.
Jurors were told she had moved out of the family home six months earlier without telling Paul.
Christine Laing QC, prosecuting, said: "This is understandably a complex case particularly in relation to the motive.
"We say that responsibility lies not as a result of any mental illness but we say as a result of her personality."
She said Donnison, who was not married to Paul but had changed her name by deed poll, was a narcissist with an overdeveloped sense of self-importance and entitlement.
The couple, who had met in 1999 when both were married to other people, had a strained relationship, the court heard.
Donnison was also jealous and controlling of her partner and often exhibited highly manipulative behaviour, it was said.
She had enjoyed a successful career in financial services in the City, but was made redundant in July 2009.
It is alleged she moved out of the family home in Heathfield, East Sussex, with the children on September 1 after returning from a holiday to Ireland.
She had left a note saying "for the sake of the children I feel I have no choice but to move out... I'm sorry, Fiona".
Mrs Laing said the two children, described as "delightful, well-mannered and affectionate", were last seen alive on the afternoon of January 26 last year.
It is believed they were likely to have been killed sometime that evening.
Donnison denies two charges of murder.

Why would a woman go through 9 months of pregnancy, give birth, nurture a child and then kill that child? This one said it was because of their Dad? Too many nutters on the loose!

That's just one side of the story oh. Its hard to belive that a woman would kill her kids out of spite. She might have accidentally suffocated them, in twisted punishment gone array. Little toddlers can be a handful sometimes, it can get overwhelming for a single mother. Just saying

@ anon 11:53, single mother or not this does not excuse the fact that she killed. Whilst parenting is not the easiest of tasks in the world, killing not one but two requires a certain mind-set. We excuse too much non-sense these days that nobody wants to be held accountable for their deeds.

Anonymous 11.53am - spite or no spite, a woman killing her children is abominable, period! I cannot believe what people will excuse these days, there is NO reason to kill a child. There are many women who have raised one or more children as single women, it isn't easy but many have done it from the beginning of time. And these days there are many resources available to aid single parents but the best decision one can make is to NOT have these children in the first place!
To think there are many people out there looking for kids... or even praying for healthy kids... God dey!

I wasn't justifying her actions at all please. I merely stated that, we haven't heard her side yet. I once accidentally locked myself out of car, with keys still in the ignition and my two kids , a two year old, and a 3 month old, but strapped to their car seats, on a very hot sunny day. It was the mercies of God, that spared us all. Now if the outcome had been the contrary, I know my husband and my family would have had me hung for such carelessness. I bless God everyday of my life, that my kids are safe. I guess I was speaking from my point of view, its really really difficult to imagine that a mother can intentional kill her babies out of spite

Now where are those nigerian women who swear that only women who have birthed kids biologically and who know the pain involved can be good mothers? so what do you call this one now who birthed her kids and then killed them? Hence I keep saying that not everyone is cut out for parenting. She was in her early forties when she had these kids and still look what happened. I don't think she wanted kids to be honest. Maybe she got talked into it? who knows!
