US woman took dead baby shopping

Prosecutors told the Chicago Sun Times that Toyrianna Smith (above) beat and suffocated her baby because he wouldn't stop crying on June 22. -- PHOTO: AFP

CHICAGO - A CHICAGO woman is accused of strapping her baby's corpse into a sling and taking him shopping after killing the three-month old in a drunken rage, local media reported on Wednesday.

Ken Blackman Jr had been dead for eight to 14 hours when the woman wrapped up her shopping trip and went to visit a neighbour, who noticed blood on the baby blanket and called 911.

Prosecutors told the Chicago Sun Times that Toyrianna Smith, 20, beat and suffocated her baby because he wouldn't stop crying on June 22.

She had been drinking vodka at a friend's house and spent the night in their guest room with the baby. She slipped out of the house the next day before the baby's father came to pick him up.

Smith, 20, is being held in jail on a US$1 million (S$1.23 million) bond on charges of first-degree murder. -- AFP

I cannot believe she's passed on. We had corresponded sometime ago and she stated that I contacted her when I came home. This is sooooooooo sad.
I pray her soul will rest in peace and those she left behind to be comforted by the fact that she lived and mattered.
She will be missed

They should conduct a thorough investigation into this death - serious autopsy. Was it poison? She did write that Akpabio was planning to kill her.

AKPABIO, if you have anything to do with this, please don't ever die o. You must live forever. Our Father in heaven who sees the hearts, intents, and deeds of all men SHALL judge on the last day.

Meanwhile, GOD will keep the family left behind in the all-surpassing name of Jesus. We will always remember you, our Lady of Songs. The best thing in this life is the legacy you leave behind. You will never be forgotten.

Am so sorry to hear about Lady Christy's death. I just saw her son on T.V and he said he was with his Mum when she passed on, and she kept blessing every and said 'It is well, before she took her last breathe. So I believe it is well with a beautiful, selfless woman who lived a good life. Rest Well.

Christie Essien Igbokwe was a very great talent.Starring as Apeno in the popular TV Drama, the Masquarade, and acting as wife to Jegede Shokoya a.k.a the youngest millionaire grandson of the Idi of Idi Araba (Late Claude Eke),it was difficult to tell Christie was not Yoruba. She spoke Igbo,Yoruba,English Ibibio and Hausa fluently and in short Christie Essien was a model consumate Nigerian. We are all too familiar with her travails with the wicked here on earth but I hope she is resting in the bossom of our Lord

Adieu Peace !
