"How Joseph and I met, decided to get married and have a baby" - Adaeze Igwe Yobo

"We met at an event in Abuja and it might have been love at first sight, though I had not noticed it. I did not know that it was something that would go far. I never thought I'd be married when I did. I was not then into the boyfriend thing. I was still discovering myself. But in the course of our phone chats, it was as if we had known each other for a long time. He left Nigeria and came back and overstayed this time and we were together. About a month after that, he started talking about marriage. He said he was serious and that he really loved me. I was already in love with him, so I thought about it and realized I had nothing to lose.

I told if he was serious, he needed to come see my mum. Two weeks after the discussion, he came to see my mum.
Joseph and I both immediately agreed on having a baby. Because we thought about it that what would our baby together look like, and also maybe if I got pregnant, everyone would know that we were serious about getting married.

He left for the UK and I was always going to the hospital every other time to find out if I was pregnant. Eventually I called him to tell him the good news, and on hearing the news, he told me he was getting me the next flight to Liverpool. Then we started planning for the wedding...but agreed to do a small wedding because there was no time to plan a big one. We had the wedding and a little ceremony and Joe left immediately the next day for the nation's cup.

Being a wife and mother at my age (21) was a bit difficult at first, especially for my husband. But fortunately he had so much patience and I have gotten loads of advise on how to go about it all, and when I put them to practice, they work. At the rate at which we are going and by God's grace, it's going to be much much better than how beautiful it is now.

Me thinks the pregnancy ws the reason for the rushed marriage, time was very much on her side she dsnt need to cover up with this story...we wanted to know what are kids will look like ke? She don hammer sha they r doing fine

The thing is that there is a stigma that goes with marrying a footballer or any professional sportsman for that matter,it always looks like anyone marrying one does so for the money, that may be true to an extent but also doesn't mean there are not some that do it for love.and I believe it's that notion that makes the sportsmen behave anyhow...In Adaezes case, eyebrows were raised cos she was rather too young when she got married and some believed that at that her primary focus should have been her education and all.if not what would make a young girl like that want to get married before attaining at least a university degree? But after all said and done,it's her life and she is free to live it the way she wants.I also happen to know a couple of women married to footballers or other professional sportsmen without drama. My advice to Adaeze Is " if you really want your marriage to be a success, get away from the press, don't be giving them pictures of your private parties and all, nobody needs to know what's going on in ur home, infect pple like me don't want to know, don't send pictures to show if ur wearing a louboutins,or Ysl,keep ur pictures to urself and your family and close friends to see, don't tell us how u met Joseph and why you guys decided to have a baby, whether it was love at 1st sight or not, that kind of info should be classified.get a grip on urself, beware of the press.else they will destroy you and ur marriage if your not careful.learn from other pples mistakes who are in similar situations as you. ". If u really say your union wasn't for money sakes then prove it by living it.don't put urself in a situation that may cause pple to judge you.if you have ear...listen to this......

Shut up with that "Igbo girls" anonymous 3:41. Like no girl is capable of doing the same thing. Stupid and uncertain stereotypes. Anyway good luck to them regardless.

wow! i'm very disappointed! she sounds so naive.

the guy used the pregnancy to trap her. its unfortunate that she would tell such a cheap story to cover up for what happened. she sounds like a 16 yr old

sweet story and good looking family but pls what does she mean by not being into the boyfriend thing? when i know that the party she was talking about in abuja she attended it with her then millionaire older igbo boyfriend who is based in abuja and well known to unilag girls, i mean they went to every club in lagos together and i saw them 2ce at the movies so don't know what she means by not into boyfriends?

if the man is rich, igbo chics are never too young to marry. a bunch of my school mates got married off to igwe's right after high school...today their mates are well, and igwe is now broke. they wish they had gotten small education for backup.

hmmm good girl u keep going to the hospital to find out if u are pregnant for the man u havent even gotten married to ....did u go once or u kept going even after the test say negative while he was in liverpool, that shows how desperate u were to think u can get pregnant when the guy couldnt sleep with u from uk,we all know footballers abroad earn large sum of money..would u have done the same thing if itwhere a common man on a nigeria street ,u must have doone ur research properly..how long early did u open ur legs for him after u met ...a few minutes?at 21 u shld know that hiv is real...and its not written on the forehead..did u consider all this before u open ur legs to a stranger b4 marriage...did u bother to find out his status .no cos u were carried away by his money and fame and to see how ur baby will look like lol...silly girl

These comments are too funny I must say, just gatta join in. Ole girl was suppose to start university in America wasnt she, she even moved to New York already, found out she was pregnant, knowing the guy is worth millions, Im sure the mama must have said to her.. 'all these education wey you wan go get can never make the type of money wey I hear this Footballers make through their career o'.. loll... Adaez thot, Ok mummy, keeping the baby! lmao.. Lucky girl still.. Dont we all wish!

Anonymous said...

if no be money, you for near this Ogoni boy?

@Anonymous 3 May: 2.08pm.
You gave her good advice but shouldn't her mum have given her such advice?

She should stay away from the press and stop attracting attention. The press can make and mar you. Publicity is not good for her marriage. She is not Mrs Beckham and our society is different.

On education, she dropped out of university. She should be encouraged to finish her education and not rely on a man. Anything can go wrong at any time.

Her lawyer mum should have taught her a lot of things about life. It is not as rosy as it looks. She needs plan B and C. Anyway, she is lovely.

she had better get her acts together and finish school..her mom also got married young and went to LASU in marriage with kids so adaeze can do it..these athletes money does not last for ever..her mom used to commute from onitsha to LASU..

Anonymous said...

Oh dear! She does truly sound like a kid.. smh...
@Anon 2:08pm, thanks on her behalf for such useful advise, you couldn't have put it better. But then again the article was culled from Encomium, infamous for sleezy and often exaggerated stories. She may or may not have said it in those words. In any case, she must have learnt her lesson and is moving on with her life. Wish you all the best but please give your kids better advise (DON'T MARRY A GUY TO KNOW WHAT YOUR KIDS WILL LOOK LIKE AND DON'T LET ANY GUY DECEIVE YOU INTO GETTING PREGNANT FIRST TO KNOW IF YOU CAN CONCEIVE) And if you do get pregnant outside wedlock, don't make silly excuses for it; chin up and face it without letting the world know your bizness.

Pretty little thing. i reject all the haters comments on your future.may it be well with you and your marriage and family. Go back to school though. do something tangible for yourself with all that dough.

*side note* Kanu Nwanko married a rather young girl too.
All the embittered haters who have warmed the beds of these guys are probably the reason why they go for these young types. they have seen too much maybe.
