Rico White signs 2yr N6m deal with Star FM Lagos

USA-returnee Rico White, a rapper and younger brother of rapper Iceberg Slim has just signed a 2-yr N6m deal with MiTV-owned radio station Star 101.5 FM.

Following the release of his first single “Show Me” featuring Sean Tye late last year, the rapper just returned from New York where he attended a crash course in radio broadcasting and is gearing to cause some major upset on the airwaves soon.

Star FM seems to be making the right moves by introducing this evidently interesting individual as part of efforts to reposition the station as it appears the battle for supremacy amongst Lagos radio stations has gone hotter .

For that radio station...that's a lot of money and it's not like he'd be doing 8am to 5pm. It's a fair deal.

Alicia when we used to come to London as kids (under Gowon,) the naira was even more than the pound before the at par rate (Murtala’s era and post-Murtala in 1977.) My Dad said he complained when it was 1 to 1. He bought a house in North West London in 1977 for £1000. He also said he paid his University fees here in Naira back in the days. Can you imagine that?

@Chilling....its so sad what the Nigerian economy has turned into these days. its extremely sad. how can the naira now fall to 1 dollar = 150 naira? people walking around with bags and bags of money just to do grocery or clothes shopping. i dont know if they have debit card in Nigeria? excuse my ignorance, but i've never heard of it. but DAMN, what our naira has turned into. :(

Alicia; terrible but Zimbabwe is worse. I know they can peg the exchange rate but there are so many people at the top gaining from the continuous rise. £1 to 254naira when i checked last week.

The good thing is it makes us feel like millionaires when we are changing money to Naira. Ha! Ha!!

Oh yes, they have (all banks i think) debit (MasterCard) and even credit cards (pre-paid MasterCard.) I withdraw cash from the ATM with my GTB credit card in London but have never been able to use it here or anywhere else except in Lagos. Another sad thing, because once I verify my address as a Nigerian one, it gets rejected. Even the UAE and Asian countries have rejected my card. Yet, it’s pre-paid!!

People don’t really carry cash anymore and you don’t even have to go into the banks for money. There are ATM machines everywhere. Also, there are 1000Naira notes, so you can actually carry 5 million naira in your handbag (at your own peril.) We pray for better things in Nigeria.

The good thing about less cash is that house robberies have gone down (so I’ve been told oh.) Thieves now know people don’t really carry cash like that, except it’s an inside job and they know you have money.

My issue is adding another phonee blowing individual to the existing 1 million( exaggeration) we have on the other stations. Not a problem for me though as i dont ever listen to Star Fm........Wazobia fm all the way for me.
