Merging CRK, IRK and Social studies into a new subject, Religion and National Values, is unacceptable- PFN tells FG

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN, an arm of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, has kicked against plans by the Federal government to merge Christian Religious Knowledge CRK, Islmaic Religious Knowledge IRK and Social Studies into a new subject to be known as Religion and National values. Recently there was a public outcry following rumors of plans by the Federal government to scrap CRK.
The Ministry of Education however came out to say that the rumor is unfounded as no one is scrapping the subject from its curriculum. The Ministry said that what has happened is that CRK, IRK and Social Studies have been merged into a new subject.

Speaking after its 2nd quarter National Executive Council meeting held in Lagos today, the National President of PFN, Felix Omobude, said denying CRK its age-long position as a single subject standing on its own has foreclosed the opportunity of the subject being studied at the tertiary institutions. Omobude while addressing newsmen said.
"The PFN is concerned at the controversy that has attended the revised Basic Education Curriculum, especially the collapse of Christian Religious Studies as part of an omnibus subject known as Religion and National Values. We noted the explanation by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) on some of the issues raised.  There is really no justification for the uncertainty the NERDC has created which has opened up the implementation of the curriculum to the whims and caprices. Collapsing CRK as only a part of Religion and National Values forecloses the opportunity of the subject being studied at the tertiary level by students and is unacceptable’’ he said.
The PFN president commended the Federal government for prosecuting the war against Boko Haram. In the same vein, the body asked the Federal government not to relent in its efforts to rescue the remaining Chibok school girls as well as bring a lasting solution to the religious crisis in Southern Kaduna.

“PFN is worried at developments in Southern Kaduna, especially the lack of prompt response to guarantee the security of lives and property there, leading to a loss of lives of many indigenes of that area. A delegation from the PFN recently paid a visitation to Southern Kaduna and made a presentation of N15 million worth of relief materials to the different groups, irrespective of ethnicity or religion. From this visit, we can see that there is much more that urgently needs to be done for the people of Southern Kaduna and urgently too. We call on the Federal government and Kaduna State Government to immediately improve on their rehabilitation efforts,’’ he said.

PFN, you don't say "good morning" when it's already evening. I'm sorry, you people woke up when work has finished and workers gone, good night.
However, I know and also believe that God will handle things in Nigeria to His own glory, through Christ Jesus. Christians have failed God and His kingdom in Nigeria

Awa yeye don do ooo..what has religion gotten us..Our Lord Jesus christ's real Name is Yeshua..He was also Never white nor has blue eyes...Yeshua was a brown Middle Eastern refugee child of Jews..The white supremacist keep pushing Jesus, a white man as you lord and savior..which shldnt even matter cos Jesus is a brand..lets follow his teachings and forget worshipping him..He is more concerned about what he came to teach and IT IS NOT TO WORSHIP HIM..IT IS TO PEACH LOVE...

Christianity is a way of life NOT a religion..pls pls pls

I guess soon they will change "Gods Wealth" when am great..but my name is Olaoluwa.

There is power in the name of Yeshua..the power is not in the meaning..its in who he is.

So, merging crk/irk/social studies is a great move..this will make us all learn about eachothers' religion..BUT pls teach the right things. .

@BabaAramide ur ideas are way too abstract. u are speaking from the sperspective of Godless person. God is God and merging these won't change the difference between Islam and Christianity.

Why merge them ? You can't force people to study what they don't want to.

This government will not let sleeping dogs lie.
Of the plethora of terrible problems bedeviling Nigeria, Is religion now the most important?

I think this merging is a good step in the right direction. It will at least bridge the gap of hate and division that some people are bent on promoting through religion among other means.

For the first time in Nigeria, Christian and Muslim students will be sitting together in the same class learning and discussing about each other's religion without fight.

This should mark d begining of the 'LOVE' Christians talk about in books/in theory, but which they fail to show on LIB as well as on other SM platform.(They will probably attack me on this, because I, to them, seem to be promoting the love and not the hatred)

I look forward to seeing the Nigerian secondary school, where Christian and Muslim students can sit together in the same classroom learning and discussing about each other's religion peacefully, with love and compassion. This would definitely reduce misinformation about others' religion which leads to hatred.

All over the world muslims cooperate, organise and strive to occupy positions of influence where they can formulate and control policies but so-called Christians are the exact opposite of this.
They will not wake up until the whole country succumbed Islam.

So if all is well and good how come IRK and French are offered as mandatory electives; meaning that a student MUST choose either IRK or French to study?

For me I have to wait for the syllabus to come out. If they merge the three together and equally, I think its a good thing for Christianity because most children will be drawn to the Light. More children might end up accepting Christianity.

Jesus said He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
