Facebook responds after Cleveland murder suspect shares video of senseless murder on Facebook Live

Facebook has issued a statement after a Facebook Live video of a Cleveland man, Steve Stephens, 37,  showing a fatal shooting of a 74 year old man was uploaded onto its site. Read here. Cleveland Police say that Steve Stephens broadcast the killing of  an old man who was later identified as 74 year old, Robert Goodwin Sr. on Sunday evening and is the ongoing target of a manhunt
The video has since been taken down and Stephens' account removed from the site.

In a statement to journalists, a Facebook spokesperson said:

“This is a horrific crime and we do not allow this kind of content on Facebook. We work hard to keep a safe environment on Facebook, and are in touch with law enforcement in emergencies when there are direct threats to physical safety.”

Though Facebook’s policy prohibits content that glorifies or incites violence, the rule is apparently difficult to enforce on a social media platform that encourages its billions of users to post photos and videos in realtime.
