The recession can be a blessing in disguise- Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki today said the current economic recession can be a blessing in disguise. According to him, the recession has forced the government to look into diversifying the economy.

Saraki said this when he spoke at the Chevening Alumni Leadership Summit in Abuja this morning.  See another tweet, after the cut.

It's an opportunity for us actually diversify our economy and be disciplined in our policies. The former govt spent frivolously and we're paying for it now.

D-PinPointer Says: Yes! It is a blessing in disguise. If only your daughter or your son fell sick and died because there is no money to provide medical care, then you would be able to differentiate between what average Nigerian families are going through, and theoretical concepts. Does Buhari look like someone who knows what he is doing? I'm asking you.

Corrupt Senate President return your stolen money!

Saraki, a grasshopper is burning and you're cheering it that it is gushing out oil. This is the dumbest senate this country has ever had. A vibrant senate ought to have impeached this incompetent, clueless, antagonistic and wicked president that is more or less like a curse to Nigeria.

You can still stand tall in this recession. Make extra cash. Check this out. http://superjobs.xyz/?ref=11534

Suprisingly, I understand the point he's trying to make. But the fact is under the right environment, this will only promote a healthy competitive environment for Nigerian businesses to thrive, grow, and expand. But as our leaders usually behave, they only look at things from one perspective. Does he have any idea the challenges currently faced to start up SME (which occupy a larger portion for job creation and wealth creation as well) right now in the country? He only sees things from his own little telescope as usual.

Jonathan destroyed the economy with the excessive looting of his administration. This recession will make us more disciplined and stop us from looting excessively to our own detriment

Yes you are right. Jonathan and his cohorts looted all the money of which Saraki was part of them

There are too many illiterates on this blog. I just read through comments and found out that they dont even understand Saraki. What Saraki is saying is that recession is a blessing in disguise because the federal government wants to start looking for other ways to make money like agriculture, minning etc instead of depending on just oil. If not for this recession, federal govt would never have thought of looking for other ways to generate revenue. He doesnt mean that recession is actually a blessing as in the angle of suffering. So dont get him wrong. He means it is a blessing in the angle of restructuring the economy. Kai, illiteracy is a disease! We need to revamp our education system.
