Recession hits Dangote Group as it reportedly sacks 48 workers

The Economic recession has hit Dangote Group as it has reportedly sacked 48 of its workers. Inside sources claim 36 expatriates and 12 local staff serving in Dangote Cement Plc and Dangote Industries Limited were relieved of their jobs last week Thursday October 20th.

A letter signed by chairman of the group, Aliko Dangote, states that the company is currently embarking on restructuring due to high cost of production in both factories.

The letter states that this year has been the most difficult for the group. Part of the letter reads
"This year has been a very challenging one for us as a business. The unavailability of foreign exchange, coupled with an unprecendented hike in exchange rate has resulted in increased costs across the organisation. This called for a proper review and adjustment of our costs across board to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the deployment of our factors of production in a bid to eliminate redundancy that we know exist, which resulted in some tough decisions which means losing staff, including some of our colleagues. On Friday, October 14, 2016, we began the process of staff cutbacks as it is imperative to review our human capital deployment for required cutbacks that would ensure efficiency and eliminate redundancies in the allocation of human resources. This first phase of this exercise involved the cutback of 36 expatriate staff across the Dangote Cement Plc and Dangote Industries Limited and 12 local staff in Dangote Industries Limited.”

Well atleast the brunt of the decision rested heavily on the expatriates than the locals. It's a lil relieve compared to if the hammer fell hard on our people, means more people thrown into unemployment circle

Why are Nigerians so ignorant and uneducated even with big certificates? What has recession got to even do with Buhari? Nigeria as a country produces nothing and is mainly dependent on income derived from Oilnfor at least 50 years now. The decline in income started at the end of 2014 and your and previous adminstrations including your beloved Saint GEJ did not diversify nor save but rather embarked on sharing money in dollars for his relection. That alone buried the Naira automatically. Every oil nation is going through tough times at the moment. Even Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil producer have cut jobs and paychecks of its officials.

Buhari is trying . He inherited a mess and came into office at a very dufficult time. The old man is trying to block leakages, but does not mean he has no blame too. I would rather expect cut in salaries of overpaid irrelevant National Assembly workers.

Dangote is doing what every business does at a difficult period. This is why I worry abt people like Linda who have gone out financing a new business excessively at this time. Nigerians should educate themselves and stop being frustrated out of ignorance.

Read informative articles online not just gossip blogs to understand how the world, government and businesses function. A whole Saudi had a $100billion deficit let alone Nigeria.

Are they blaming their leader or are they not making adjustments and working on how to make its future better?

I can't deal with empty brains I swear. Just this article is enough to explain tough times for Oil based economies smh..Everything Buhari APC..Tufiakwa
