Photo: Army seize dried fish worth over N60million from Boko Haram members in Borno

The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army today destroyed over 2,000 cartons of dried fish valued at N60 million seized from suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. According to the spokesperson of the Division, Colonel Tukur Gusau, the suspected Boko Haram members had resorted to robbery and cattle rustling and are believed to also be engaged in some form of commercial activities with these stolen items to fund their activities.

“We have about 2,000 cartons of dried fish, suspected to have been taken away forcefully from fishermen, fish mongers and business men in Borno State. We decided to born them so that we can send a message to these people. What they wanted to do was to sell the items in an open market at a ridiculous amount of money and use the same proceed to sponsor their terror activities,” he said

Onukwu, try to understand wot u read, the post clearly said they stole those items from fishermen and fish mongers in order to resell them at a cheap price.....Is English this hard

Anonymous said...

Why not feed it to the people in IDP camp, Or auction it to traders and whatever proceeds from this should be use in taking care of the IDP. OR give this to the Soldiers on the front line as bonus for the dreadful job they are doing for their country. This is my first thought.

I would only support the destruction of the valuables if they have been tested, it comes out that they are adulterated and poisons to human consumption. This was what my thought were when i got the the point "we have decided to burn it" while reading. And when i got to see the reason behind this. I said to myself, this isn't a wise call.

Thanks. Linda if you get this message please I have something to send to you about Nigeria Embassy in Canada. What would be the best way to reach out. Thanks for your quick response.
I will read reply on this thread.

PEACE!

Good job, but I don't buy the idea of burning dried fish worth 60million. That's a serious waste of money and fish. They could have just tested the fish and given it back to those it was stolen from or better yet, donatef it to those who have been displaced from their homes and have little or nothing to live on.

segun odukoya said...

They should have given the cartons of fish to the people displaced living in the camp instead of destroying them.

why destroy the innocent dried fish which could have been used to feed many at the IDP camps or given to charity. if they think they can hurt the feelings of the real bad guys by doing this then shame on them.

Na wa o Nigeria army! This time una no try. If their comandant is stupid enough to destroy that amount of fish then how do we believe that they were confiscated from BH members and not innocents individuals all in the name of the fight against terror. How about giving it back to the community that it was supposedly forcefully taken from? And it looks like empty cartons being burnt there o. Where are the BH members that were supposedly caught with the goods? Did the fish mongers say that their goods were stolen? Where they able to identify the people that stole them? You can't just make ridiculous statements like that and Nigerians won't ask questions na that part dey pain me pass!

Nobody is saying anything about the bodies found floating under Ezu bridge, nobody is saying anything about ALUU 4. Those idiots are there burning cartons of their lies and we are here praising them. When weapons are taken from BH members they normally show us the pictures of the BH members either dead or alive, where the pictures for this one na???????????

BOKO HARAM is a result of cause and effect. When a democratic govt stops being a govt for the people of the people and by the people then you can BH. When a group of people will come together and agree to blow up themselves for N50k then the situation dun pass be careful. when the people that are meant to protect your interest are the ones digging a hole of faustration, depression and poverty, hopelessness and burying you inside, then you build an environment for BH to succeed.

Time you stopped blaming only BH ( yes they will get what's coming to them if you kill buy the sword you die by the sword) but all these corrupt individuals looting and stealing from the poor and abusing the power vested on them by the people, it's time people start lighting candle under their asses. If a govt can protect its people then the people won't take N50k to blow themselves up or take N50k to look the other way when they see terrorist setting up camps.

E be like say na only me this tin dey pepper for body.

I'm glad there's a new sherrif in town though.

Since I heard this news yesterday, I have been wondering what was the rationale behind the army's action. We have numerous IDP camps with little or nothing to eat. There are over a million nigerians that can't even feed properly. Why burn N60million to pass a silly message? Why can't we sell the fish and channel the proceeds to relevant areas. Unless the fish is poisonous, the Nigerian Army acted foolishly. My Opinion
