The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army today destroyed over 2,000 cartons of dried fish valued at N60 million seized from suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. According to the spokesperson of the Division, Colonel Tukur Gusau, the suspected Boko Haram members had resorted to robbery and cattle rustling and are believed to also be engaged in some form of commercial activities with these stolen items to fund their activities.
“We have about 2,000 cartons of dried fish, suspected to have been taken away forcefully from fishermen, fish mongers and business men in Borno State. We decided to born them so that we can send a message to these people. What they wanted to do was to sell the items in an open market at a ridiculous amount of money and use the same proceed to sponsor their terror activities,” he said

Why not feed it to the people in IDP camp, Or auction it to traders and whatever proceeds from this should be use in taking care of the IDP. OR give this to the Soldiers on the front line as bonus for the dreadful job they are doing for their country. This is my first thought.
I would only support the destruction of the valuables if they have been tested, it comes out that they are adulterated and poisons to human consumption. This was what my thought were when i got the the point "we have decided to burn it" while reading. And when i got to see the reason behind this. I said to myself, this isn't a wise call.

They could have just tested the fish and given it back to those it was stolen from or better yet, donatef it to those who have been displaced from their homes and have little or nothing to live on.

Since I heard this news yesterday, I have been wondering what was the rationale behind the army's action. We have numerous IDP camps with little or nothing to eat. There are over a million nigerians that can't even feed properly. Why burn N60million to pass a silly message? Why can't we sell the fish and channel the proceeds to relevant areas. Unless the fish is poisonous, the Nigerian Army acted foolishly. My Opinion
