This is the state of Douglas Road - a federal road in Owerri, Imo state. It's been turned into a refuse dump and people walk around it like it's normal. Can't the government do something about it? More pics after the cut...

Everything is not about the government! Even in UK where the council takes care of rubbish, there's still community association that goes around taking care of things. People in this area should be ashamed: so if government don't take care of you, you can't do it? The sickness and diseases this will cause will affect primarily these people and yet they keep dumping the rubbish!!!

The people in this area must fork out for the cleaning, that way they will not allow anyone drop a single pin. We need to create a sense of ownership, this can be done only by giving up something dear to you for a cause, in this case money. Everybody needs to start bearing their individual crosses in this jungle called Nigeria forget illiteracy rate.

The former governor made environmental sanitation compulsory every 3rd Saturday of the month but the new government stopped it. Ohakim may not have been a good governor but no one can deny that Owerri was very neat during his administration. The clean and green initiative worked.
My dear I travelled to owerri for a wedding and I drove past that mansion. I was soooo pissed! How can someone seize people's lands to build an estate just because he's the governor ? The state is way worse than it was before .
No matter how much people collect and organise refuse, if there is no place to get rid of it, it will end up somewhere. This is were the government has to provide incinerator facilities or transfer to landfill sites etc. If not it will pile up somewhere.
