Former President Jonathan’s ally Diekivie Ikiogha, defects to APC

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s close friend, Mr. Diekivie Ikiogha, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State. Ikiogha, who was a founding member of the PDP, crossed over to the APC at an elaborate ceremony held on Saturday at the Kpansia open field, Yenagoa, the state capital.

He defected with some other members of the former ruling party.

Prominent members of the PDP that defected with him are Mr. Victor Awala, Mr. Paul Ajuwa, Mrs. D. Irene, Mr. Prince Abeki, a former commissioner, as well as over 150 former councillors from 1999 to 2012.

No fewer than 43 non-governmental organisations, under the aegis New Bayelsa Initiative, also left with Ikiogha, whom they described as a great grass-roots mobiliser.

Ikiogha, a former Bayelsa State Chief of Staff, said to be a trusted and dependable ally of Governor Seriake Dickson, is one of the brains behind the emergence of Dickson as governor in 2012.
But indications of a frosty relationship between Dickson and Ikiogha emerged when the former removed him from office in controversial circumstances and redeployed him to the state’s Abuja Liaison Office.

Ikiogha resigned his appointment in October 2014 to contest the House of Representatives ticket for the Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency but did not win.

Addressing the crowd that witnessed his formal movement to the APC, Ikiogha said:
“There is lack of internal democracy and it is a party where the highest bidders always have their way.”
The National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, who was represented by the National Vice-Chairman, South-South, Mr. Hilliard Eta, performed the formal reception as he presented a broom, which is the symbol of the APC, to Ikiogha.

Defecting to the opposition party will not earn you an "honorary award" (in the voice Dino Melaye). Cos any person jumping from one party to the other cannot be trusted. Simple.

What's the big deal about this man decamping to the APC. It's just selfish politics. He was appointed Chief of Staff to the governor and when he didn't meet the governor's expectations, he was asked to head the state's Abuja laison office. He wasn't kicked out of government! Is he the only so called grassroot poltician in Bayelsa? Why can he even go into business and employ the youth? This is the problem with career politicians. Anyway, we should also remember that Tmipre Sylva who is leading the APC also lost his former deputy and the SSG to the PDP about two years ago. It's worthy to note that when both men decamped to PDP, they were received by Gov. Dickson. When this Ikiogha man decamped Sylva didn't show up, neither has there been mass jubilation is the top level of the Bayelsa APC. It may interest you to know that just like Senator Clever Isikpo who was all through elected as senator and member HOR under PPD, this Ikiogha man simply decamped because they didn't get PDP's ticket. I hope Jonathan who has scampered to London has seen how men like Isikpo and Ikiogha for selfish reasons have ran to a party that maligned him and ran him out of office. If it's about performance and development , Dickson deserves support for second term. But in Bayelsa people don't really care, they just love pulling down any governor in office. Wonder why the state is still lagging behind?

Nigerians would always align themselves where they would only gain instead of work. Always like to identify with the winning party whether they are important there or not. You should stay back and help rebuild your party, that's how you become great, thats patriotism.
