President Buhari to remove oil subsidy?

That is according to a report by Vanguard. Read below...
President Buhari plans to totally remove fuel subsidy and use the proceeds for the provision of free and compulsory primary/secondary education across the country. The administration is also said to be working on unbundling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to make it more efficient in the production and delivery of products to Nigerians.
These proposals form part of the strong recommendations made by the transition committee raised by Buhari to work out a blueprint for his administration.
Asked if the proposal for total subsidy removal had been discussed with labour, the source said that members of organized labour in the country were consulted by the committee and they made presentations on what should be done over the matter.

The source said:
“ Labour is part of the decision; they have accepted the proposal of fuel subsidy removal. “A committee is likely to be set up by the federal government to work out the modalities of what is to be done in that respect. “But the truth is that total removal of fuel subsidy has been recommended with adequate provisions for palliatives on free education and social welfare for the unemployed”, a member of the transition committee said.
The source pointed out that unlike in the past, the Buhari administration is considering the provision of free meals for students to serve as incentives for them to enroll in school.

This is the first time in a long time that I have seen the Government come up with a plan and have a well thought out process for execution. Nice job!

But were you not one of the 'occupy nigeria' people?

If dumbo Jonadaft had handled the removal of subsidy well at the time he did, Nigerians would understand. We were not informed. We just woke up one day, in the new year and subsidy was removed. In the last eight weeks, we have all seen that few rich boys are holding us to ransome. I have been buying at nothing less than 130 naira. Remove the subsidy and and the price won't be higher than what obtains now. At least, the free money will stop flowing to some rogues.

La said...

Don't forget to make our refineries work too.

Anonymous said...

Don't mind Nigerians.. This thing they are rejoicing over was d same reason they occupied Nigeria and criticised Gej..

This subsidy was d same thing Gej wanted 2 do and he was massively criticised and our celebrities occupied Nigeria

Whatever that means. I hopoe it doesn't continue to increase d price of fuel.

Many Nigerian are hypotries and they are full of pretends. I could remember vividly in 2012 when goodluck Jonathan remove fuel subsidy there were protest everywhere, people that do not know the meaning of subsidy were busy causing trouble in the name of subsidy remover.Today the same fuel subsidy which was suppose to be remove then have now become a welcome idea and people are singing praise song for Buhari.Let always remember that conscience is an open wound only truth can heal it. An okra plant can never grow taller than its planter, no matter how tall it will ever grows.

But if the refineries starts functioning is there still any need for d subsidy? And with functional refineries subsidy removal shouldn't increase price of products rather it should even go down slightly below the current price of 87 naira

Anonymous said...

Is it not the same thing as SURE-P?....APC copy copy

Unknown said...

No No No. GMB u can't do that. Remove subsidy ok. But if y are a thorough nd discipline leader as we have bn made to understand, give us specific list of infrastructures u will channel the proceeds to develop. Bcos providing free education for pry and secondary schl is only a means of creating a POOL for thieves to enrich themselves. I will never kno where the money goes. They will gv our children some horrible food and say they ve spent subsidy money No NO and NO.. remove subsidy ok but uses the proceed to provide clearly stated infrastructures that is acceptable. Schl feeding is an avenue to create thieves.

He never removed subsidy,he increased the fuel price and did it just after the New year,so get your facts right.Stop being baised.

If the refineries are working, remove the subsidy. Channelling the proceeds to free education and meals is a NO please. We don't need free education and free meals in Nigeria again! We need light and industries! The people you are educating upon graduation what will happen? We have had enough of these same old same old school. We should focus on vocational and technical schools. Enough of the cramming and theories! In conclusion, we need jobs! We need power to stablize and create businesses.

Good move President Buhari, total removal of fuel subsidy is long overdue. I concur with outright removal but make sure our refineries are up and running, that will be enough palliative on its own cos the prices of petroleum product will fall on the long run. Too many scam in that sector.

I am new here! Linda where is your bell of blessing?
