What happened to the N1.9b 'Ebola Fund'? Looks like the money is for cars now...lol

Nigeria's Health Minister Prof. Chukwu announced yesterday that there's only one confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria now...that everyone else has been certified clean; which begs the question, what happened to the N1.9billion released by Pres. Jonathan for the management of Ebola in Nigeria?

Looks like the money will now be used to buy cars and other things. Naija sha! Lol. Continue, it gets more interesting...

During his press conference yesterday, Prof. Chukwu, denied the money was for the management of the virus, saying it was for the ministry of health and will be used to buy cars and other things
"The N1.9billion approved by the president was for the federal ministry of health. It is not for Ebola fund. It will be used to procure more vehicles for working which have been ordered. It would be used to procure more drugs that have been ordered... and other items.
"In the case of Lagos state, after the president met commissioners of health, the president then asked the minister of health to discuss with the technical people and money has been approved for Lagos state," the minister said.
Well, that's totally contrary to the announcement Presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati made on August 8th
"President Jonathan also approved a Special Intervention Plan and the immediate release of N1. 9 billion for its implementation, to further strengthen on-going steps to contain the virus such as the establishment of additional isolation centres, case management, contact tracing, deployment of additional personnel, screening at borders, and the procurement of required items and facilities."
Beat FM OAP Dami asks the important questions...

My taught exactly! What will happen to the money, the government should state what it will be used for in white and black.
And Linda dear, it was more than #1.9b, another #200m was added to support Lagos, making it a total of #2.1b including all the other millions that was donated by individual, co-operate organisations and companies

The fight against ebola is far from over..as long as it remains a disease in Africa.
We cant afford to cross our arms just yet and i totally so not believe there is only one case left.
Some have not been detected. This time lapse is to be used to strengthen our borders, improve our research and save for the rainy days.

That's why the LASG quickly disassociated themselves from the money.
The governor of Lagos State said they are managing what they have from tax payers and do not yet need the FG intervention.cos before we know it now,the FG will claim that they gave the money to Lagos state.
I also recall reading somewhere that Prof onyebuchi (our minister for health) was sacked as commissioner for embezzlement.but trust our sss and the FG to employ vagabonds and thieves.

Why do we Nigerians simply love finding faults with the government. I think the first thing to do is appreciate the Jonathan administration for the successful containment of the disease in the country. Did any of us know Ebola was manageable without the oyibo man Zmapp and the "pesticide". Lets praise and encourage them first before probing. #LearnToAppreciate

When we say Jonathan's government is a government of corruption and useless people. They will say we hate him

Imagine, doctors have been on strike for weeks and they refused to listen to any of their demands. They succeeded in turning the masses against doctors. Now they want to spend 1.9 billion on cars and luxury?

They will all indeed die painful deaths. Amen

It is a shame that people will seek to benefit from calamities such as the Ebola epidemic.

Wicked evil men and women we call the Nigerian government. Everything is about ends. They don't care how they get it as long as they do. Can you believe the disgusting nerve of this man to confirm the actual use of the money?
This is why I laugh at people who insult the UK. A country where government officers are sacked over the misappropriation of £2.50(N675).

The Ebola fund you asking for has been used for private Jet maintenance please try again later...Ha! Ha! Ha! lol

Anonymous said...

Yea soooo correct. They better return that money into the federal account.Anyone that steals from that money would die a miserable death.

Anonymous said...

Linda this is not a 'lol' matter pls. It's a terrible development. Even with this terrible case of a DEADLY VIRUS, corruption comes out to play.

US, Canada, Japan all created treatment when it's Africans dying, yet money that could be used to invent treatment is to be spent on CARS, meanwhile nurses and doctors are dying and infected people are left in horrible conditions to die.

There is no fear of God in Nigeria I swear. Criminals from top to bottom. Disgusting.

ColdFlame said...

Little wonder the grin on the minister's face has been getting wider by the day! Hopefully along with the intervention fund they'll also keep a kingly portion of the virus for later individual use. If the infection of a handful of "ordinary" people could attract a whopping N1.9b presidential windfall imagine what can happen if one or more ogas at the top gets it? Go Minister, you can do it!

If they use the money to buy cars and not use it to curb this ebola ish, they will all die with those cars! This is no curse but a fact. Those cars will bring untold sorrows to them all. Money has entered hands, now its only one patient that has ebola in this country. Adonbilivit!

Unknown said...

They should speak now, but if they shot their mouth and not use the money for the course it is meant for, may the spirits of those that died of Ebola chase them till they repent that is if they have the chance to repent.

APPLE said...

If any of you steal from that money you will catch Ebola or any other incurable disease. You and those you spend the money with will NEVER know peace in Jesus name Amen!

Ebola is still alive and well in Liberia, Sierria Leone, Guinea, DRC . . all that's required is for another Mr. Sawyer to cross porous bothers. Will the cars save us? This is Nigeria's opportunity to show leadership in the sub-region by disbursing the money as alloted, even if we never see Ebola again within our borders. We don't have to run to oyinbo for everything, do we? All of us who have access to social media, this is the time to go on Twitter and Facebook and demand Prof Chukwu should retrace his steps. And I prefer not to hear from the naysayers who let precious experience disarm them and shout " notin will happen." We must try, try, try and try again. Let it not be on record that we just sat down and did nothing.
