Not fair. He should have been more creative by restricting them to certain routes that may be less dangerous
That's what we call voting or campaigning against your own self-interest!...politicians say one thing and do another, but foolish electorates NEVER learn!!!!!!
That's Politricks emm...Politics for u. see Obama loving gays now, probably castrate them after...
Why impond people's bikes and destroy them like that. Creat jobs and employment for these men, ensure that they have a means of livelihood before destroying what they use to feed their families.
This is a case of the hand that feeds you can as well smack your ass... every okada man he used for campaign and got their bikes would have really felt betrayed...how sad. such harsh decision for your own people without any form of alternative for them....if the level of robbery in the society increase, the same person would be worried not knowing that his previous decisions caused the present calamity...i really hope he knows what he's doing
Na so life be ooo. Where d poor get used and dumped by d rich
"Oh well, thats life for you"? I no blame u nah. Even tho i have a fulfilling career living a very comfortable life in the US, i can still feel the pain these okada men are going thru. Many or most aren't educated, so they really need their okada job to feed their family, esp. in a country like Nigeria where graduates can't even land any kinda job.
ha ha ha see bad guy, this is a.k.a use and dump
Using †ђξ poor masses and †ђξ less priviledged and after achieving ur interest,U toss em off like an empty tin of tomato...MR.governor,I av 1 wrd 4 U; #GODisWATCHING
definition of wickedness.
Our politicians for you! No progressive at all in today political terrain! You don't bite the people that Vote you in! well there is always God's vengeance on such! I feel he should have told them from the start that he does not like their job instead of using them as campaign tools.
He used them like tissue paper and flushed them away. Who goes around with used tissue in his/her pocket?
Gov. B. R. Fashola GOD is just and fair, He is watching you.
Hahahahahahahah aunty linda u are too funny. I can't help but laff @ it
Ah-ah Linda that’s an unfair analogy now. Despite the relative “usefulness” of helping commuters get around, everyone agrees these okada riders are nothing but a terrible societal menace. Apart from easing commute, the only other tangible argument that people have against the government's stance is the perceived increase in crime that might ensue from jobless okada riders. Putting things in perspective however, unlike certain other sates, the Lagos state govt didn’t totally ban okadas, it only restricted them from plying 475 of the 9,100 routes in the state which translates to about 0.052% of the total routes. These routes are mainly bridges, expressways and double-carriage roads where there is a greater chance of these okada riders wreaking havoc not only to traffic, but their lives, and those of their passengers. I don’t understand how any right thinking person will see this as a problem. Or is our quest to reach our destination more important than the lives and limbs lost to these riders?
Linda I see you displaying your ignorance yet again. If the Okada men followed numerous traffic laws put in place do you think anyone would restrict them. The keyword here is RESTRICT, I do not see why Okadas with their recklessness should be on the highways and business districts. Like Fashola said, go to hospitals and see what they have caused. Stop being biased in the most ignorant way Linda Ikeji.
like seriously linda your 'two picture n 7 words' really sent a message home.... O NIGERIA OUR GREAT NATION
Pls help me tell Linda o. Then her stupid cosigners will also come here chatting rubbish. Linda if you don't know about something its not by force to talk about it. Ewu
PlssSssss tell them cos they dnt understand including Linda.
Anon 2:45...pls shut up! Idiot like u. U re a big fool. Na u knw calculations pass. Ewu!!!
Madmeee anon u shd explain this to the task force people ceasing ani okada dey see on the road most of them ply just the normal roads n Deir okada was still ceased n wasted!! Lagos state is too large for non okadas I know iphow atypical vi is on a working day itz hell Biko let dem put dem back to the roads roads ooo!
The two pictures tell the whole story. This is the height of hypocrisy. Use them and dump them.Even if the ban is not total, and the owners of these bikes violated the rules, there was really no need to destroy the bikes, these are people means of livelihood. Warning and a fine should have been enough.
You must be working for the government or is this Fasola? What right does a state governor have on federal roads oga?
This is war..but heard fashola hasn't provided or introduced more buses slowly before getting rid of the okadas!!..long term they must go still
Yes Linda, that's life. Life is when miscreants and social misfits increasingly use these motorcycles to rob and wreck havoc in the society.Life is when most of these motorcycle riders conduct themselves so recklessly on the roads and eventually cause sometimes fatal and always terrible accidents.Life is what is happening at Igbobi Orthopedic Hospital everyday, when countless victims of theses okada men are brought in to have various limbs chopped off. Many of these men and boys are from the east and the north. I suggest they go back to their states and let their state governors find work for them. Lagos is grossly over-populated. We do not need these bikes in Lagos anymore. We've had enough.Yes, that's life.Tiwalade.
12year olds playing with their toy(law)
Oh dear! With the majority's mentality in Nigeria, we can ever move forward. How did people move around before okadas pls add to that there was no BRT then except death traps called molues. We REALLY need to change or mentality and see the bigger picture. All we do is complain even when laws are put in place for our own good. We need to learn to think out of the box, see the bigger picture! Please analyze situations properly before deciding on it. We need a total change of mindset. And yes he gave them helmets(I don't know of bikes) during elections but they we all agree they have totally misused the opportunity given to them to operate. As the other person said, it's not a total ban so I don't see the problem. Also I hope people know there are no more okadas in Abuja.
U re the biggest moron that ever walked the surface of this earth. Ur children and ur children's children will all turn out to ibeciles. How dare u call a great nation like Nigeria an imbecile. If u re frustrated, u better go and drink the sperm from ur father's shrinked dick or better still go and suck ur mother ass. Idiot.
My darl,we rly dnt need to knw u stay in US,jst pass ur comment and bounce
Fashola is a wicked man. Even Tinubu aka Ogbori Oloju or Boju is not this cruel. One day, god will stop supporting Fashola. You cannot be making people sad because you want to be an active governor. Most of these guys are Igbo men with poor living conditions in Lagos. God dey! I am Yoruba but I will say the truth. I am ashamed of Fashola.
That's a typical Yoruba person for u. They use u and dump u when u least expect, u can't trust them @ all. God dey. E no go better for u Fashola. You just want to frustrate my hausa brothers so they will leave lagos for u. Eat ur lagos. Our kano is even more of a bigger city dan lagos. Stupid yoruba idiots
Lagos is not ripe for the ban. With trafik prone poor roads & lack of jobs this is hardship to the commuter & okada man respectively. Inconsiderate govt
Tiwalade, you were not with me at Bishop Aboyade Cole on Tuesday when I had to trek under the hot sun to Sanusi Fafunwa with mu suit and tie cos there were no bikes. So they only banned them from 0.05% of all roads abi? Deceive yourself. Fisrstly, the length of the banned roads and the frequency of usage makes ur statistics laughable. Further more, in most parts of Lagos, you can't go from one unbanned road to another without passing through banned roads. so whats the point. And you really need to mark out these unbanned roads to your greedy police men and extortionist Lastma guys o. Because they are impounding bikes in every nook and cranny.Between 7 and 9am on working days, hundreds of bikes move from the Marina area to VI without being impounded because thats the way half of the working populace (including police and lastma guys) get to work.By the way Linda, perfect analogy.
FATHER OF BLOG LORD'sCondom use and throw away~ who is the condom who is the user. We hv more then 20.000 okada in lagos' baba tonde would have ask them to pay daily tex #50 times 20.000 big money. Money is on someone mind. .lol..........
that's politics for you. They say they are for you but don't recognise you as soon as they take office. Fashola you are a betrayal to the okada riders
I think in Naija we need some bit of consistency. People scream about the menace of bikes, rules are put in place, the rules are flouted and punishment is meted out and the same people who screamed about the menace come back to 'feel' for the bike people? They have been banned from over 400 routes..How many routes are there in Lagos? There is no love in the heart of the city. If you can't survive the city go back to your village. There was a time when bikes didn't exist in Lagos and people got around. Besides everyone who has ever used a bike has had one narrow or near miss.
Fashola is trying to bring western ideology into lagos but it cant work, we are Africans, the citizens are not complaining, its the easiest form of transportation, I even see white folks flying bikes, so whats his own?The reason China is successful is because they didnt give in to western demands, what I suggest is that if you want to ride okada, they should ensure they are fully kitted, jacket and helmet before they ply various routes like abroad. Whenever I am in Nigeria, Okada has always helped me to places I am usually clueless about and shame no dey there.
Lında, ı assume you drıve, maybe you close your eyes to what these okada men dısobey the road sıgns and cause menace. They also use them to rob too. Yes ı agree to them beıng restrıcted to certaın roads, ıf not that our leaders are the same we shld have raılroads and all. Who wld need okada ! The northern okada boys are just too rough and dont even understand englısh not to thınk of understandıng road sıgns. They drıve bad and wen anythıng happens they mob you for № reason.
EZE BLOG Fashiola keep on ehhm. GOD have heard there prayer you are just waiting for rot of GOD......... Band down low......
Yes. That is life. Hope Nigerians would vote wisely next time not because of hearsays or money they get *sigh*http://www.muslimahanie.com
I've never been on one and don't intend to.It's easy to castigate them for recklessness but if the appropriate authorities do their jobs n enforce the law i believe there'll be a drastic reduction in their so-called recklessness. Also remember they've helped stop criminals i.e. Kidnappers, robbers etc. I think Tinubu's trying to discredit Fashola because of his rising profile n possibly to stop him from attaining higher office after his tenure runs out.All in all this move wasn't in the interest of most Lagos residents but that of a very select few.
Bonario A̶̲̥̅♏ wetin for you to comment
Helooo! Make your comment and shift to one side.a lot of guys on this blog go to the US for summer hols but won't mention it.but a an empty barrel like u,who is a street cleaner in the US will not let reasonable pple talk.go n deal with yur inferiority complex jor.illeterate oshi!!!!!
...he gave helmets at one time...now takes their bikes...unfair exchange...Anyways the Governor has alot of tough calls to make....
Help me ask them!! When it comes to repairs it becomes federal roads, but he can ban okada from federal roads...
Ehen u see na.. eko o ni baje..
That's what he did you idiot!!! He just took them off the highways. He did not ban them totally. Learn to do research
@Oyinkansola, you really think you sounds so smart aren't you?Go deep down the ocean and count how many bones are there as a result of shipwreck - you should ban ships in the ocean?A Governor just landed from the sky and got his neck broken - I guess you should restrict plane?Thousands died in China from Rail accident - you need to get the rail banned?Armed robbers rubbed in your neighborhood with car - you really need to stop people from using cars?Your response is a Typical Lagos Yoruba response "The people from the East should leave our holy land and go back to their home land" at the end, the one speaking is actually from KWARA!Dirty and Silly Crap!
No I am not Fashola, just his brother LOL...but seriously, 1. I'm sure not all of the banned roads are federal roads. 2. Even if they all are, the safety and enforcing of traffic laws on ALL roads falls under the jurisdiction of the state in which they lie. the role of the federal govt is to build and maintain the roads (which they are not even meeting their end of the bargain). So to answer your question, that's the right of the state govt.
Reading some posts, i really cant blame our leaders for being the way they are... people cant make constructive arguments... either they call someone a bastard or a fool, or the insult the country... If we dont start making intelligent comments about issues affecting us, our elected officials will never change...The reason behind the abolishing is what we should analyze, and not rushing to judgment and condemning the action... what measures are being taken to cushion the effect... what opportunities are being created for the okada riders... etc...Not coming here to talk like uneducated fools...FOLLOWERS SOMETIMES DETERMINE THE TYPE OF LEADERS THE GET!!!!!There was once a country, Nigeria!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your "civil" contribution. I see your body is peppering you bcos the state govt has destroyed your only means of livelihood..Kpele, don't despair there's still farm work in your village.
Fashola if u knew u were gonna ddo dis then u shudnt have used bikes for u campaign..this is wickedness..sad#b
Use and Dump strategy of capitalists!!
If you want to get rid of okadas then build a better bus system and a light rail or subway. Okada men will naturally find something else to do.
Don't be speechless my dear brother. The thing is that the Nigerian politicians and the Nigerian masses are two parallel lines that can never meet.My cousin who graduated from ESUT, during the last general elections was the youth leader of his party, he helped a present house of reps member to mobilise and coordinate the youth to vote for this him in Anambra. The now house member wanted to pay him but my cousin told him not to that he should just help him get a job if he wins. The long and short of the story is that this man won and till this day he has never picked my cousin's calls. My cousin came to abuja to see him and for one whole week this man snubbed him and told his aids not to allow him enter his office. This was the same man that we eat and drink with when he was still begging for our votes, most times we even fuelled his car for him then, but now he's on the top and everybody even those that suffered for him during his election can go to hell.
Go to d hospital and see what these so call ok ads riders has done to many lives..I watched an helpless man cut into two for riding an okada.these so call okada riders don't value human life's at all ...okada cause 80percent acciDent in Nigeria..
Linda this picture is very very WRONG!! I don't like people who insult progress they were not restricted from operating in Lagos State just some areas. Every state that has placed a ban on okada riders didn't totally restrict them from the whole state okada still operates even in ABUJA. Fashola didn't win because he campainged with okada riders he won because of the gOod works he's doing. Linda use your blog to promote progress not insult it! I'm in the medical field, do you know the havoc okada riders cause every single day? Come to the Accident & Emergency ward and see how many patients were put there by okada riders including the riders themselves! I believe they were restricted from major roads. I'm truly disappointed in you linda for this post, I thought you were enlighted. This post is just down right STUPID if you want to talk about the Ban, write an expose on this how they can create jobs/survive (although they will. The okada riders in the other states didn't die) not this RUBBISH! Truly Disappointed.
Nigerians stop having too many children to be able to manage your life
You are the idiot,u shld b d1 2do a research by goin tru d Lagos Traffic Law.They were not only banned on highways,bt even on some streets.I stay in surulere and they were banned 4rm 41 routes n looking at those routes, its d same thing as total ban on okada activities in surulere. So Idiot,go do ur research properly.
Lovely. Though I feel their pain
Linda that caption on the picture is misleading. Are you implying he encouraged them before election and is now destroying it afterwards. So the way okadas drive is ok? 10000 okadas that were seized were all stolen during the fuel protest which is why they decided to crush seized okadas instead of letting uniformed men come and steal and resell them. I was against the crushing as I felt they could auction them out or make the offenders pay fine but I am very happy and fully support taking them off major highways. Okadas should never have been allowed in the system in the first place. Okada has been banned in Abuja, Enugu, PH... And they all migrated to lagos and have been a menace. Was living in PH then and people thought they won't survive in PH without okada but no one remembers or miss them there today. The way some of them drive makes you afraid for them. Let Okadas stay off major roads. If they refuse, let them be banned completely. Long live Fashola, may God continue to give you more wisdom to put in place policies that will keep Lagos in front.
Linda, Thank you for your yet again "Attention Grabbing Blog Piece". I hope the dead people who died from Okada incidents come back from Heaven and Hell to haunt and protest the total ban of this Miscreants..Thank you for posting!!!
U don vex!
so because they campaigned for Fashola means they should become a public nuisance??? Good riddance to bad nonsense!!!
Pls tell her o. I used to think Linda has wisdom. So disappointed in her for this. If they had worn the helmet they were supposed to wear and follow traffic rules, this won't be happening. Before he was reelected, okada were told not meant to ply 3rd mainland bridge, lekki epe etc but they did. They beat red lights like no man business. You'll actually look out for okada trying to speed across even though you have right of way.Hard hats without starps cannot protect them nor their passengers in case of accidents. Linda I am trying not to call you names. Just don't be enemy of progress because Lagos is the only state that is trying to compete with foreign cities. Wonder why you didn't try to use okada when you were in the US. Mtchew
linda abeg leave politics matter and face social gossips o!!!
Pls learn to spell u ignorant idiot b4 u blow up our phones and render us blind. U think translating ur language to english is d way to understand this crap u call english. Abeg Linda u ought to be more careful with all these ignoramus u allow comment on ur blog. I am beginning to think u didn't go to school either.
Ahahaha you bitter Nigerians will not kill me! Her/his US comment definitely triggered something in you(inferiority) for you to lash out at her/him..
Gosh! I really hate it when people try to sound real smart, by covering their rigid stupidity with grammar. "There was a time when bikes didn't exist in Lagos, and people got around"Did it ever occur to your lizard egg of a brain, that THE ROADS AT THAT TIME WERE NOT IN THE DEPLORABLE STATE THEY ARE NOW?
All dis suffer heads abroad coming here to make mouth,am sure u dnt even ve a kitchen called ur own there,na bfore abroad pple dey deceive us they are sla
@Mrs. Jacqueline Okafor please try to be civilized with the way you address people,Linda is not a KID she is a grown a*s chick with feelings. If you want to be practical in your analysis of what goes on in your Medical "planet" open your senses too to realize that road accident is just a normal epidemic that goes on in the human society everyday whether be it "okada" riders or have you witnessed an NNPC tank driver before?Pray you don't while driving some of the drivers are into drugs, marijuana before taking to the street causing a road accident involving hundreds of lives wasted. If you want to be realistic in your judgement with the state governor provide a means for them too ease the pains and sufferings of their family, because after this ban little kids won't have their school fees paid anymore because their Dad's happens to be the only means of livelihood which sadly is "OKADA" riding.
Go to IGOBI and see what they have caused!!!
Abuja has no bikes except for places like karu. Within enugu city, bikes have been banned and replaced with keke napepe, I must say, I have not seen a single accident in enugu for over 3 months I came back and I can drive around town knowing that no bike man will do some Jackie Chan stunt for me and give me a mini heart attack. I don't always drive so some days I hv to go take a cab and then I miss okadas but once I See a cab or keke, I forget okada men. However in lagos I enter okada well sha, I even go from Thomas estate to lagos island mkt for 500 naira to avoid traffic but I must say, whenever I do I commit my soul to God and have my heart In my mouth. It's not easy yea but we will adapt real soon. For those calling linda an idiot sha it takes one to know one. For those insulting Fashola, God will only punish hi. If he didn't have the best interest of lagos state at heart. I can't say much but all I know is, those bike men should go back to their various states/villages and see if there is anything they can do for their states. It's not about running to the big city and everyone back home is expecting u to make it big when you don't meet up to their expectations you start looking for who to behead and use for rituals and who to rob of their sweat, become assassins and armed robbers and when caught you say it's the govt. As for me, i'm all for greener pastures but I will not kill myself in the process. I have said to myself, in as much as I read law, if I don't get a job within 6months post service, I am going to start my own business. I am learning a trade that ppl will frown at and I am not ashamed. Biko nu don't insult Fashola or linda or anybody of any tribe okada in as much as it helps us get around, it isn't the best for us. Someone raised the topic of rail roads, now that is a very good topic I think our rail roads need to be functional so as to reduce the amount of cars on our roads but trust some hoodlums to still find away to scare ppl off entering trains. I support Fashola in all his endeavours bcos to govern lagos, you need to be mean. Someone said tinubu is better than Fashola. Shaa I know tinubu did nothing for lagos and God is watching tinubu sha. Yes we may not support some of his decisions but I know that whatever decision be makes cannot be for his selfish purpose but for.the good of lagos and her residents. He myt as well be looting money and do no work but he chose to thread only where eagles dare. I'm igbo and I support Fashola and his decisions. Y'all should take it easy with the name calling oh abeg.
I don't think its a bad idea though ,he only banned them on Major roads , in achieving some goals ,a price has got to be paid ,and these are some of it ..Its called social change
Yes Wale, I live in surulere too and its like a total ban on almost all the streets of surulere. But let's minimise the use of abusive words...
It is lucifer himself that will punish both u brightt and the useless anon 3:53PM for saying dis arrant nonsense! He no go better 4 una! Am sure u pple don't even own starlet let alone good rides so u don't drive and see d mayhem dis pple cause on lagos roads daily! Wen Nasir El rufai stopped okada in abj town, idiots like u complained but 2day abj is wat it is cos of dat singular law. If u fink lagos is 2 tough 4 u, go back to ur village. Metropolitan cities are not meant for everybody!!!!! Am not a Lagosian by the way but I hate it wen peeps who haven't left the shores of dis country speak shit abt sum1 trying hard 2 clean up Lagos! Annoying lot!
Please at wat point did Fashola use okada or danfo riders for campaign? So if sum1 decides to do sumtin 4 u even wen u didn't solicit 4 it, does dat mean u shld look the other way wen they are doing sumtin wrong? Pls prove to this blog wen Fashola used dem for campaign!
Anon 6:51PM pls y are u wasting ur time explaining to those who already av a mindset? No matter how much u explain they won't undastand cos they av already shut dere minds against the reality on ground! Okada on highways/ major road kills!!! Go to Igbobi and see wats happening dere, u will neva allow ur enemy climb it again
Hehehehehehe I second dat! Go to ur village and do farm work if lagos is too hard on u!
See ur mouth...let dem put dem back on the roads o. How many pple av u paid hospital bills for the okada accident? Pls the state govt needs to start spending health aloocations on critical health conditions not self inflicted ones (okada climbing) jare! Before the emergence of okada in lagos, how were pple moving about? Pls we don't need those tins on our highway again! I almost hit sum1 last wk cos of a stupid okada on ikorodu road
So wen they refuse to pay d fines and abandon dere okada for ova a year the govt shld bring dem to u abi? Ode!
God bless u Tiwalade....Meggy!
Be ashamed of ur father u idiot! Stupid bush moron! Its obvious u av neva left 9ja b4! Ode oshi! Omo iranu
Will u shut up dere? Before okada started in lagos, how was ur father and evry oda member of ur family who didn't av cars back den go to work? Ansa dat 1st. Lazy ass! Am sure u r too lazy 2 walk! Wen I travel out, I work frm train stations to where I put up! Nigerians don't exercise at all! Too bad!
Pls dnt mind Nigerians speaking from both sides of their mouths! Okada just has to go period! The pains are greater than the gains biko!
@weneva u r in Nigeria" so oga where bush country do u live in? U pple just make me laugh I swear. Tell me the country u reside in oga and let me knw if bikes are being used for transportation
Linda, this report is too one-sided. Is it obvious that you are inciting people. He didn't use them. They supported him. There's a difference.I can see that all your readers too are all facing the same direction. Stupid myopic people.Fashola didn't ban Okada you f'king illiterates, he only restricted them from certain roads. Get that into your dry skulls!
My dear medical professional, go to the emergency room and count how many critical patients were rushed to the hospital on okada before u conclude. I've bn in an accident b4 n car owners wldnt stop to help! I got to the hospital on Okada. Btw d accident wasn't caused by an okada rider!
U r very foolish n jus a frustrated idiot for bringin tribalism into this. Pls jus go back 2 ur village.
This is so sad.I m sure dat majority. Of those in support of this bann r. Car owners.wat of the less privileged ones in d society dat cannot afford a cra?wat becomes of dem?yeah I know u guys ll also say dey shud trekk or go to villa.Yes,some bikemenn r. Menace in d society no. Doubt but cudnt regulations have been put in place. To checkmate tgeir carelessness?.Fashola got Ȋ̝̊̅† wrong.before u effect laws u must create ways to cushion d effect of those laws on ur pple but nothing was done.bikes were removed n ecost of evvery means of transport doubble. He is. Wronng abeg.u guys shud call a space,a spade
Dey need to be band...okada people ride RUBBISH!! They die too much on the roads...they spoil pple's headlights, bumper etc...they really shld be band...they don't ride carefully....although they r very important...or the gov can make a path for the okada's on the roads...but the thing is dey will nt follow it....they r always in a rush and hurry. It is well.
Some pple said other states wit Okada bann survived.yes, they survived by moving to Lagos state. Most of those states atleast have good roads n r not as immensely populated or as lag as lagos is.Fashola cud have started by working on the road, repairing d drainage system in Lagos, providing more buses n Brts n regulating cab fares but did he. Do all dat?NO.instead he wants Lagosians to WALK.dats an unfair governace.let's all remember dat most of us started out poor b4 we got our own cars.Fashola didn't only render okada riders jobless but also those dat sell okada spare parts as well.dis is a huge economic blow to Nigerians.yes, okadas cause lots of accident but so did cars b4 regulations were put in to checkmate a lot of things so why cant he enforce such rules n regulations to Okada riders instead of this.U guys say he didn't bann okadas outrightly?pls tell dat to d policemen dat ceased lots of bikes even from pples homes n those parked along the road.Fashola has FAILED.Hope he realises dat even though he isn't running for another term,he is single handedly destroying d chances of his party in d next election? Our problem in Naija is dat as far as we r not affected we don't speak up against injustice.Hope we all know d bann is not just for Okadas but also keke maruwas?how ll Lagosians dat don't have cars survive???
Mamdmee mrs jacquline am sure your an housewife n u don't go out all u do is to eat school runs n sleep! Cos if you knew what working people go tru in this Lagos from Monday to Friday u won't be blaming Linda for anything! I totali disagree WIV the statistics that says okada causes 90 per of d accidents! All we hear here everyday is accidents caused by trailers n buss drivers n dey die I rarely hear an okada man killed somebody y don't dey ban those trailers Hun! Have u ever seen robbers take okada to rob all this banks reports has been made u guys saying they cos robbery it's safer to even use your bb on okada in Lagos than to enter a bus or cab WIV it! Numerous times my frnd n even mee have either lost their fones in cabs n buses! Most of this okada riders like on d island are hausas n trust me they have beta integrity than the soo called Yoruba bus conductors and cab men who are the real thievess! I live on the island and even if I get ma car today its still much easier to ride on okada bcos of the mad hold up! Bank managers use okada, ceo's use okada, I reli can't imagine life wivout okada oo ! Wiv okada I can achieve plenty tins in a day a car wont let me WIV the crazy holdup! Fashola reli needs to retink his decisions cos the task force people aren't helping matters they take this people okada's n waste them even wen dey aren't moving! And please don't compare Lagos WIV Abuja dey are two different places! I don't hav an biz on if Fashola used dem for his election let him to look at the welfare of lagosians and not give hear to those stingy POLITICIANS THAT WHAT TO TAKE THE CONTRACT TO SUPPLY KEKE NAPEP TO LAGOS COS I KNOW THAT'S THE NEXT LINE OF ACTION!Mz ENUFF said!!!
Anon 3:52 ure a bastard. May u and ur family die of leprosy. Boko haram oshi. Is it not u people that are spoiling lagos wiv ur filth. Go back to your God forsaken state! Oloriburuku! See dis bastard o. U people that are next to pigs. See human being dey talk hausa dey open mouth! Is that not how all politicians behave? Didn't jonathan say he had no shoes so we can pity him? Anyway illiteracy runs in ur blood I don't blame u, linda post my comment!
Fashola barned Okada in the whole of Ikeja since the past 1month plus now. All dis stories about him barning okada in some areas only is not true. He barned okada everywhere, making life miserable for everyone. He thinks its only the poor that enters okada, even the rich enters okada when the traffic becomes unbearable. I have nothing against him barning okada, but he should have provided other means of transportation in Lagos and also provide jobs for those men that he stopped riding bikes and destroyed about 3,000 of their bikes.
Which one is typical yoruba response????? Fool!

For those of you bashing him/her for mentioning he lives abroad, YOU are the ones with verrrrrryyyy serious issues! What's so spectacular about someone saying he lives in Abuja, Lagos or Calabar? Why have you suddenly developed a serious itch bcos someone said, I live in the US? And u go ahead and cuss and hurl abuses at someone you barely know ? Deal with what's itching you and let this person be!!!
Anon 2:45pm, I'm very sure you got an F9 in maths. How can 475 of 9100 amount to 0.052%?

Go and sit somewhr my friend.. Oshisko..
dats absolute wickedness on d part of d governor,,,,
Shut up! There are bikes in Abuja, just not in d central area's where dey are banned from! Mumu!
Mrs Jacqueline Okafor, I think u are not serious. Y do u av to insult Linda just becos she is voicing her views. She has the right to air her opinion just the way u av a right to air urs. Pls, let's respect one another, it is downright rude for u to talk to her that way.Yes Fashola is fighting a right course but he is doing that in a very wrong way. What is his administration doing to provide transportation for the teeming population of people in the state? We all pay our tax what are they doing with Tax payers money in the state. Mrs J, is Fashola telling us that his govt can't make alternatives for this Okada riders? Rem dis men are bread winners of their families. Do u knw d implication of this? No money! No food! The must disheartening part of these is dat so many children will be out of school. That being said, I think this govt should av made an arrangement where all Okada rides would submit their bikes and get a Keke Napep in return. They should be attached to govt Micro finance banks where they pay an amount of money in instalments until they complete payment . Then we can come out and say our leader is sensitive to the plight of the people. Pls, let us be our brothers keeper. Let's L♥√ع one another
Linda I can see that u r a very bias person! All my comments which was sent last night didn't make it to ur blog abi? Because am not in support of ur ignorance in views of the reality on ground? If u like don't post this one also, atleast u will read it!....Meggy!
My Dear I didn't insult Linda, I said am disppointed in her that's not an insult however I said the post was Stupid and rubbish. If the okada riders are smart they will go and sell their bikes for keke napep instead of rioting
Wow so pathetic and cruel...
#Unenlightened# before linda igbo voltrons attack me... Lol
Biko nu spear linda all ye fathers of wisdom.
Thank God! Long may it continue!! I'm tired of this unemployment excuse given by people who openly break laws and their supporters. Here's an idea: follow the rules like everybody else and avoid getting your "livelihood" destroyed.
Hope you know majority of the ppl that leave in new York don't own a car but the get around. Of course I won't compare new York and lagos State sha but really Nigerians are plain lazy. as for the so-called less privileged, there is nothing wrong with going back home. Enugu for instance has provided enuf cabs and kekds in place of bikes and everyone is moving forward. If I were some of these men, i'll take advantage of this situation. I'm a girl, I live in enugu and I have 3 kekes to my name. I can't ride around in them cos ppl will frown at it (not that I care really) so I gave it to 3 of the okada men I used to enter their bikes. After I made them see there is life outside okada, the went on to purchase their own. As for me i'm not working. Ut atleast my money isn't tainted. Living in the east is very easy, extremely cheap accommodations and less hassle compared to big cities. Girls in abj and lagos just giving decent girls bad name everywere just to be able to keep with paying house rent. Enugu for instance is growing and I wonder what the ppl I used to know in this town are doing in abj sleeping with married women and looking for working class lonely girl to decieve (that is the boys sha). Massive lands here and cheap yet no one to take advantage. As for me lord knows all I need is capital and I will establish myself in this town. Moral of my story sha, the fact that you made it to the big city and managed to get a bike now that it is taken away, doesn't mean your destinies have been averted. It only involves, replacing your poverty poisioned minds (of no hope) and with thinking hats. In the end whatever you choose to be assassin/robber, gala hawker or begger, you will only have urself to blame and not Fashola.
This mrs Jacqueline tooo dey talk out of point n itz beginning to irritate mee like I said i noo blame u maybe na rich husband u marry cos if his a poor man u won't sound like ds! They should selll their bikes too whoo for God sake u no c say dem ban okadas huuun soo who will buy it from them !! Abeg dey should leave this okada riders ooo!!!
You r 2o insultive mr anon. You can make ur statement without insulting anyone.
Anonymous 8:17AM .... you are right I forgot to change to percentage, the right figure is 5.2%....And for the record I didn't get an F9, I got a P:-) at least I try nah...
Eradication of bikes on major roads is a good idea. We are talking about our lives here. People get injured cos of bike accidents everyday but I don't think this is the right solution to dis problem. If all the roads in lagos are tarred there will be no need for this bikes. The case of robbery will increase in lagos cos there are no jobs. You are takng their only source of income wat else are dey left with robbery. Which of this two options now hav the greatest risk. Think wisely fashola
Haba I read pples comments on dis blog n it amazes me how losely abusive words are used. Pls let's be considerate now
I miss my Okada runs.
linda,We do have okada in tanzania, they are called boda boda over here. they are a source of accidents all the time, i think banning okada is not a solution what is requierd is training and management of the okada drivers, and use technologies e,g gps,ict etc, did u know there are okada in london? just google motorcycle taxi and u will be amazed with what u can find.i am doing a postgraduate research on the impact of this informal transport and would welcome ppls views. Thanks Dan Ndori
I believe good leadership involves putting sentiments aside when making decisions for the good of your constituents. Because they helped campaign for him, of which i believe most of them were paid for, doesn't mean he should turn a blind eye should they become a menace to the society. It is not going to be easy, but Nigerians adapt pretty fast and to be honest city life isn't easy and definitely isn't for everyone. Lagosians need to stop complaining and help return that state to its former glory.
No be this same okadas..made Chidinma from koko mansion swerve and die anyhow!!..dem types of acciddent are synonymous with Okadas..reckless indeed..as a commuter you might not feel the impact but as a driver they are a MENACE TO SOCIETY!!
Let me give you a little story. I had this cab guy I use in abuja then and one day we got talking and he opened up to me that he was once an okada rider in abuja, he heard rumors that there would be a bike ban in abuja and once he confirmed it, he sold his bike (when the value was still high) and made a down payment to someone for a taxi and promised to work off the rest bill, today barely 4-5years later he owns 3 cabs and have two people working the other cabs for him. Lesson of this story, he could have challenged, rioted the goverment, or waited for the goverment to put food in his mouth, but he knew he had a family somewhere depending on him and even though he was uneducated he thought smart and made a way for himself and he's family. When one venture fails you look at other options. No wise man cries over spilled milk. I repeat if they are wise they will go to surrounding states where bikes still operate and sell their bikes and start a new life!.
Restriction means they are not banned but can only operate on certain roads, am sure d families of those who have lost loved ones and sum who can no longer use deir limbs would think differently. Some bad incidents can be prevented so let's not add sentiment to it at all, after election he told dem to use helmet bt majority don't even know d essence, rules were made but the okada men ignored. All anti ACN re hating on fashola instead of working with him to make Lagos safe. Some of the illiterate Hausa okada riders have packed their machines in 2 lorries and left lagos, it's not the end of the world after all they migrated from various states were they we're banned. We shud only urge fashola to find an alternative instead of been spitefull, with good roads and less traffic okadas will not be missed ask the people in Abuja.
Damn.I actually thought it was jut a temporary test to analyse how people would cope..He actually destroyed them..I always knew himself and Tinubu were cold hearted animals...I just dont know why all these politicians dont accept that a larger % of Nigerian people are very poor..This is very sad..FASHOLA IS A DOG..
Na wa o! Its saddening to see such pervasive ignorance amongst the "leaders of tomorrow." One of the major problems we face in this country is the intellectual laziness amongst our youth. How hard is it really to source for and obtian relevant, accurate information on a topic before we open our mouths and spew forth rot and stench??FYI, Gov. Fashola has not "banned" the use and/or operation of okadas in Lagos. All he has done is to restrict them from operating on A FEW specific routes and if you compare those routes to the ones on which they can still continue to operate you will see that it is quite a small percentage. Also, if any of you cares to do your fact checking you would see that the REASON behind this restriction is that the govt, after conducting its research, has discovered that these routes pose the greatest danger to human lives and well being as a result of the recklessness of these okada riders. So the under-riding reason for the restriction if our collective safety. Now in respect of the destruction of the okadas by govt, if you had cared to make even surface enquiries, you would have learnt that these bikes were confiscated for various traffic offences over a period of time and the riders merely took off and never showed up to follow the due procedure to reclaim their okadas. Do you expect the govt to keep them indefinately? Come on people! Use your intellect here, not your emotions!!I would be the first to admit that destoying them may not have been the most beneficial way to dispose of them. The govt could have auctioned them thus raising crucial revenue for the state. However, this may also defeat the govt's obvious intention to reduce the number of okadas on the streets of Lagos. What the Lagos state govt needs to do now is properly and effectively regulate the use and operation of okadas in the state. Ensure that those operating them are well qualified to do so. Ensure that they have a solid understanding of traffic laws. And create an awareness that theses laws apply to them just as they apply to any other commuter on the streets of Lagos.God bless Lagos state! God bless Nigeria!!
The 1st rule of Politics: There are NO permanent Friends, JUST permanent Interests !
Wow, it's really a sad news, what exactly will this men do to feed their family now?
Hi Linda,You should always pots the whole story. It is clear in the news that Okadas were not banned in Lagos like some states but restricted to certain routes. I know pple whoa are suffering today because of okada recklessness. Please always balance your story. Even in a sane country, should motorbike be used as a means of transportation?
