Young people are not capable of leading this country - IBB

Babangida, in a Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation interview which was published on Sunday, had stated that his intention to contest the 2011 presidential election was necessitated by his observed dearth of younger Nigerians with the right leadership qualities.

Responding to a question on why he was not interested in younger politicians ruling the country, Babangida had responded thus, Because we have seen signs that they are not capable of leading this country and so, we feel we should help them. May be they are not given the proper education, that is why. I have spent 17 years since I left office... But a country like Nigeria cannot be ruled by people without experience. People like Obama that you are speaking about have the experience.”

Lol...I laugh in Igbo. I wish I could write more...
But check this out - I quoted him in pink...*wink*

Have the older ones proven to be any better?

Why don't we look at the younger governors? Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Donald Duke, etc.

Come to think of it, maybe what we need is a younger and vibrant leader!

dont be surprised that he has supporters. the only language Nigerians understand is money and he's looted more enough to fund a hundred campaigns

babangida obviously needs a psychiatric evaluation. we certainly do not need a leader who lives in a bubble. maybe he's not aware that he's one of the people that wrecked this country. this would have been amusing if it wasn't so darn annoying!

Linda,
Frankly if you ask me, this guy should be in jail. He should be the last person to even signify an intrest in this position. He does not even fear God. He just lost his wife for crying out loud. Na wah oh. Naija will never get better if this guy gets in again oh! The said thing is, I don't put it past naija politics. The guy might actually win. God is a very patient God sha.

Right here and there in his comment is the problem with Nigeria. The bigger problem, though, is that a lot of young Nigerians have bought into that school of thought. When 75% of the country is under age 35, yet fewer 1% are involved with legislation or have an influential say about the direction of the country, then that is a serious.

Yeah right and he is the one fit to lead us? Amazing!

If not because Nigeria is a country with no laws, maybe they do, but don't practice them. IBB should be in jail serving lifetime, but this man has every guts to walk around, and even be listened to?

Experience in what? crookery, embezzlement, no common sense, stupidity, what a fool! If Nigerians give this fool another chance to go back to office, I will be convinced that Nigerians don't want change, and the whole world will watch the country go downhill to destruction.

I don't wish death on anybody, but sometimes I seriously wish all these fools who call themselves leaders, that don't care about anybody else but themselves, should die and go to hell. It's so frustrating that these people refuse to see beyond themselves.

I will encourage the younger generation to rise up against nonsense such as this, prove to these fools, "YES WE CAN". Younger generation have to start learning to take pride in their country, learn how to be patriotic, parent learn how to think outside of yourselves, and instill these morals and values in your children. Pride/patriotism is not about going all over the place rocking green white green, so everybody can know you are naija, but let's have a vision, and passion to want to make a difference, and let's tackle it from the root. Africans/Nigerians seriously need to start caring about how the world view them, and do something about it through actions.

Africa/Nigerians have a long way to go, but if these people are open to change their ideologies, and start building on a strong foundation, then we will definitely get there one day.

please leave IBB alone.....let the will of God be done.we should know by now that watever happens in life is for a purpose.if babangida becomes president....so be it.
everyone deserves a second chance just as God keeps giving us a second chance every other day.
let God reign in our hearts and lets stop judging people.
we are not saints either

Cant blame him, just because his children that schooled in switzerland on tax payers money can write simple letters and are always clueless, so he thought we are all like that, Danburuhba.

AND HOW MANY OF YOU MOANING AND GROANING ON THIS SITE AND SEVERAL OTHERS WILL TURN UP TO VOTE COME 2011?

PERHAPS NONE. SO HOW CAN THE YOUTHS THEN LEAD?

@ Kemi, are you kidding me? This is not judging at all. Let's learn how to differentiate things, please. It's like when there's someone who steals or lies, he's a thief and liar, it's not judging or assumption, but that's the fact. So, let's stop fooling ourselves, and call what it is, what it is.

The truth about it is IBB can't come back to office, and it will be stupid if Nigerians allow him. IBB saying what he said about the youth makes no sense, especially when he hasn't even set good examples.

Kemi, are you for real??? Na wa oh... which second chance are you talking about??? So you agree that Nigeria should be led by the same people who have been around since independence... until they die of old age... sorry to say but you need help! Especially because you are among the young people that IBB is insulting as being useless and incapable of contributing to Nigeria... smh

The idiot speaks of the younger generation not having experience to lead the country, which experience??? How can young people get experience when these old jerks have been running the country like a cartel and monopolizing power. Even when we vote, it does not count... sad world... I am not one to wish people bad luck but they all need to step down, retire or die soon so that Nigeria can have some fresh air!!!!!
