Child Sexual Abuse on the rise in Ghana

A non-governmental organisation - Plan Ghana, last week released a damning report about the prevalence of sexual abuse in some Ghanaian schools. In the latest survey, about 14% of female students in the country's secondary school have been abused by their classmates, teachers and relatives. The study conducted inAwutu Senya, Effutu and Upper Manya Krobo Districts and also revealed that about 10% of male students have also been sexually abused. According to the organisation, it came out clearly that the major perpetrators of child sex abuse are their own classmates. Female friends constitute 58%, male 37%, neighbours 36%, teachers 21%, and other adults in the community constituting 14% and relatives 13%.
