My sister was also robbed of 1million naira by an Uber driver - Blogger, Ono Bello

Another Nigerian lady has just called out Uber claiming she was robbed last week Tuesday in an Uber in Lagos, and valuables including jewelry, phones worth 1M were taken away.The lady, Christabel, sister to fashion blogger, Ono Bello shared her story. She wrote;

'"I got robbed on Tuesday the 27th of June using uber in Lagos. The driver took me off my route to a very lonely dark spot. He had enough time to leave the place. He just stopped the car meanwhile the engine was still running. A guy emerged from no where peeping into the car I told him dis guy is dangerous please leave. He looked at the guy and kept on looking at his phone. The bad guy came with another guy smashed both the windows from behind the left and right respectively. I sustained multiple cuts. They went away with my valuables. Uber is saying they ain't going to compensate me for my loss and horrific experience. I had to arrest the Uber driver, the case is in court'.
'Uber is a win win organisation. Just for the money. If you use Uber and calamity struck. You are on your own. Beware of Uber Nigeria. I'm lucky to be alive. I am still weighing my option on how to make a case with Uber. Uber ought to take adequate measure in ensuring the drivers are well trained and make proper background check on the drivers. Failure to do do they ought to be accountable. I am left with nothing but pain and sorrow. My crime was that I used Uber'.

This story seems off. The Uber driver planned with his buddies to rob amd they still went ahead to smash the windows of the car to get in. And why would a robber rob someone and still wait around to get taken to the police station/court. The story just doesn't add up.

Nigerians!!! They don't want any new development look at how they spoil online business, now most online business don't allow pay on delivery again they will ask u to make your payment before delivery. They have turned Uber too to an avenue to rob & molest people. When are we going to change? And we are all clamouring for change, how can a country move forward & develop with all this? Let the change start from us first.

Uber is not the promised sanctuary. There is no such place or system in earth. Carry one million naira cash often enough in your own car and your own driver will eventually rob. People should learn to be safe, discrete, responsible, and to stop taking things for granted.

Uber is rubbish and I am coming from a partner point of view. If your driver steals your car Uber will not even give u information on the driver this is after u pay #10000 for some supposed private investigation. Uber is an epic fail. They take no responsibility for anything. You are completely on your own as a partner and as a rider so help yourself.

Well, deeply sorry about your harrowing experience. If Uber is sincere, they could investigate the crime and if indeed for any reason the driver veered off your route, then he is culpable and you have a good case. If Uber doesn't take responsibility and act justly, seek a good lawyer and sue them. As for the driver, if he's found to be an accessory to the crime, he should as well face the music. Its unfortunate that Uber Nigeria in a desperate move to remain relevant employs all manners of drivers without thorough background check. What a pity!!!

I hope you can sue Uber. It's their liability. The whole essence of having their drivers records is for accountability.

Nigerians can spoil things sha... The purpose of uber was to satisfy it's customers and of course employment for drivers, now they want to spoil this good. Are we the only ones on this planet that good is always turned to evil????
Uber is everywhere else for Pete's sake.... 😤

I see a lot of people saying its not uber's fault. In America, the CEO of Uber has resigned for something less. Why do Nigerians like being treated like donkeys. If we demand responsibility from people, even their own business will be better for it.

Now I am beginning to think twice about uber and gradually they will die if this Continues, leaving people jobless.

Think!

Totally agree with you. Uber only think to protect themselves

Truth is...there is no "identity" in Nigeria and therefore tbe so called Uber drivers in Lagos or Nigeria entirely can get away with crime.

Question: How do they carry out the background checks on driver?...through who? The police or your friends and family?

Do this kind nonsense as a Uber driver in UK or US where theres identity and real background. Where u no go end ur life for prison!

Which drivers record? Witb all the fake drivers license and No real identity!
