Speaking through his vice president Dr Mrs Isatou Njie - Saidy who represented him at the presentation held at the Presidential palace in Banjul. The President said as part of his belief in pan africanism, our values and heritage which Nollywood has helped to showcase on the world stage.
He said he's rewarding and encouraging the stars to come and make the Gambia part of their own. Nollywood and Ghollywood have been able to capture and tell our stories better than any outsider can do. Africans relate to your stories and same with those in the diaspora and the carribeans and around the world. He urged the stars not to rest on their oars but take it as a big challenge to do more and add value to what they are already doing. You are great African ambassadors he said and you must continue to achieve and surpass what you have today you have made us proud. He told them to See themselves as Gambians and take advantage of the land offer and build homes for the future.
In his response, leader of the group, Mr Francis Duru thanked President Jammeh for his generosity and expressed his colleagues gratitude and how humbled, Overwhelmed and honoured they are to receive the plots of land. Mr Duru and his colleagues pledged to work hard to create opportunities for emerging and budding Gambian stars. We are just a call away he said. Know Jammeh before you praise his disguise moves
The Gambia is a powder keg waiting to explode. The president giving out lands whilst seizing some from his own people is a dangerous move. So ,who so ever is a beneficiary should be very careful because these people will come for their lands should jammeh leave.
Gambians don't value their own talents. For years they preferred patronising Senegalese and other fly-by-night musicians. The same blunder is being repeated in the movie industry. Our local talents are living from hand to mouth while the hustling fly-by-night Nollywood and Ghana folks are pampered with our taxes and remittances. If you try to reason, they would say you are jealous. Why would we be jealous when some of us are blessed with the expertise, global connection and confidence to thrive across the international film scenes? We can afford to stay out of the competition for photo - opps with politicians. I just pity the local talents who cannot speak their honest minds on the state of affairs. No one will build Gambia or Gambians. The Kenyans, Ghanaians, Tanzanian, Sierra Leoneans, Liberians, Ugandans and others used to wait for the Nollywood noisemakers and hustlers but along the line they realised that they had to take the LEAD in building their respective national film industries. In the Gambia, it is a crime to be innovative and think out of the box. Patriotism is about telling lies to the powers that be! The pioneers of the Nigerian film industry relied on self - reliance. It is a shame that for the past decades some of Nollywooders have been prostituting themselves to political desperadoes across the African continent. Their filmmaking is no longer about checking and balancing the political classes or raising social consciousness. It is all about playing, partying and vanity. Some of them over-rated themselves by campaigning for Goodluck Jonathan in the last Nigerian presidential elections and took millions in fees. They over- rated themselves by mistaking the hype and photo opportunities with dictators and questionable business people as political gravitas! Boko Haram is killing Nigerians Africans but not a single Nigerian actor, director, producer or actor has so far shown the bravery with patriotic and social responsibility to make a film on Boko Haram mass murder. The Malians where brave enough to make a film on the misuse of Islam for violence (watch the movie tiled TIMBOUCTOU). Another Malian sensitization movie on the subject of religious terror will be out next year. Nigerians cannot say money is the problem as they have more resources than the brave Malian filmmakers. If Malians were to waste their meagre resources on Nollywood stars to tell their stories, the religious problems of the Tuareg region would still be hot like the Boko Haram mess. For the citizens would not have had the chance to be sensitised on terrorism issues through the power of film. Anyway, to those who are partying with out Gambian taxes through the powers that be, enjoy the free money and gifts!

I leave you with this powerful response from another Gambian:
ASIEGBU ATTEMPTS TO MANUFACTURE XENOPHOBIA
By Bax
Ejike Asiegbu is entitled to his opinion about Yaya Jammeh, but he should do us all a favour and not try to justify the unjustifiable. Ejike Asiegbu cannot claim to be unaware of the dire political and economic situation that The Gambia is currently in, under Yaya Jammeh, nor can he feign ignorance of the poor human rights records of the regime, and its continued flouting of national and international laws/protocols.
After all, a good number of his own “cousins” from Ghana were cold bloodedly butchered by his so-called “Pan Africanist” president, whilst the ECOWAS Court in Abuja has made numerous rulings on human rights violations against the regime, which it has continued to disregard and treat (the court) with contempt.
Indeed, a token of gift, as an expression of appreciation for services rendered or efforts contributed, is a practice that is well understood by the Gambian people (as by many African people), but Jammeh’s irresponsible misuse of our meager national resources, in his futile pursuit in African statesman status, through largesse and pomp, should not be mistaken as Pan Africanism, nor should it be perceived as “gifts of appreciation from the Gambian people. And if that is Mr Asiegbu’s idea of a Pan Africanist, then he has a lot to learn about Pan Africanism.
Moreover, why has artists and other personalities, African and non-African, made it a hobby to jet into Banjul ever so often, to patronise Yaya Jammeh and receive his “gifts”? Is he the only “Pan Africanist” president in the entire continent?
I am baffled by what seems to be a misunderstanding, by a seemingly well educated man, of the issues Prince Sankanu raised in his piece. Mr. Asiegbu’s attempts to manufacture xenophobia and hatred, where there exist none, against the Nigerian people is an indication of the type of person we are dealing with here.
Prince Sankanu’s concern and write up was directed, not at the Nigerians and Ghanaians as a people, but against a specific group of individuals from these countries, who patronise Yaya Jammeh andattempt to sanitise his battered image, for their personal selfish interests.
Ejike’s devilish attempts, to twist Sankanu’s genuine concerns about the theft of our resources to suit his narrative, in order to create confusion, suspicion and bad blood between Gambians and Nigerians will not work.
The partnership between the two sister countries and their people has been cemented well before the appearance of this charlatan on our political scene and long may that continue. Perhaps, Ejike should do a bit of research about the sentiments Lt Yaya Jammeh expressed against Nigerian officers who were in charge of The Gambia National Army in 1994 and then he will understand the fraud that Jammeh really is.
For the records, there are many genuine and hardworking Nigerians and Ghanaians in The Gambia, who have contributed immensely, and are contributing in no small measure, in our national efforts and endeavours at development since independence. Gambians appreciate their efforts and invaluable service to our nation, rendered in the spirit of true pan Africanism.
Unfortunately, there are handful of our brothers and sisters from Nigeria, whose greed and love of the material world, have reduced them to criminals and fraudsters wherever they are, and in the process, have thus tarnished the good name and image of a great country with a proud people and history.
My gut feeling is that Mr Ejike Asiegbu is one of those Nigerians and I for one, have no time for such a person lacking conscience. My advice is don’t let this fraudster, without a concience and his likes, make you generalise and stereo-type Nigerians as a whole. We are one and the same people.
