I like her tweets. There's respect, advice and a calm view of what is expected. Good thing she sees all Africans as one. So now, it's time for Nigerian artist to step up their game. Maybe they could get the front stage they want.

Mumu It's not about being aired on BET. And I believe the BET we watch in Africa is different from what they telecast in the USA. Back to you mumu it's about good music. A music with universal appeal.

Unknown said...

FACT: they should start treating our African celebs as one.

Maxwell was a handsome 6'4 hunk with 6 packs. He used to feel like he was a gift to the world but on this day he was crying like a baby, he couldn't let people know he was crying so he hid his eyes behind some wayfarers Rayban sunglasses.
He had devoted the last 6 years to building a career in body fitness, he had given the company the best years of his life, he had no friends and no hobbies; all his life revolved around the gym.
Yet on this day, he was fired without ceremony. He felt so used; he felt like a tissue paper that had achieved it's purpose. No farewell messages or gifts, just a curt "you are fired!" He knew he could get a job anywhere, it was the sheer cruelty of the act that broke him.
He was accused of flirting with one of the married women at the gym and nobody bothered to hear his explanation.
He made up his mind to never work for anybody again. Maxwell started his body fitness centre in his living room and in the space of 6 months, he became the most sought after personal trainer in the country. All the celebrities wanted him to work with them. He looked at his life over 6 months ago and he began to thank God that he was fired.
Sometimes in life, we go through challenges we don't understand, we are lied against and punished for what we don't know anything about. It is a painful experience.
If you are going through that kind of situation right now, I want you to take solace in Romans 8:28 (NIV) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
You may not understand what you are going through but God does! Trust Him to sort you out. This scripture says God ‪#‎causes ‪#‎everything to work for the good of those who ‪#‎love God. It's in your times of challenges that you should love God more, don't spend time plotting revenge or having a pity party. Move closer to God and He will bring a message out of that mess and turn that test into a testimony.
This is not the end of your life, this is your beginning, your best days are ahead of you. Raise your head up high and walk with your shoulders tall, you have made it this far, don't quit, you are last man standing, you will win!
‪#‎ThankYouJesus
‪#‎Thank ‪#‎you for reading, I love you! Please make sure you share this Gospel of Jesus Christ so that others can be blessed just like you have been blessed. Follow @walejana on Twitter and Instagram

Jesus is Lord. Shalom

please define quality of music, most African songs are indigenous, so should our musicians only sing songs that are pure English, will that been make you guys play more African songs and respect the African brand?...we all agree that most of these African songs are lyrically bland, so guess that's were they need improvement.

They can't possibly make up those stories and complain about them and for years now! Please BET/ or lady shut the hell up! Racist!

I stand to be corrected, but, I think what African artists are saying is, if u want to gv us awards, gv us infront of everyone, in d midst of everyone, meaning, Yemi Alade might find herself sitting next to Beyonce or Rihanna, all as one, mixed together, deserving, if u think they haven't done enough to deserve the awards, then don't call them out at alllll, afterall, out actors don't gv Grammy awards and no one complains. If they hadn't nominated them, we would hv watched d awards happily, cheer d winners without feeling anyhow cos we'll know it's not for us simple!

Attention!!! Attention!!! Attention!!! The presentation of cheque to fire victims by LASG. The various media outlet are reporting that 243 victims were given cheques. The deputy governor only presented cheques to 10 people before she left. After that, the rest were told that the money will be paid into their various account. Pls we call on all authorities involved to look into this so that the matter will not be swept under the rug!!!

Anonymous said...

Last go round, I said this, Linda, but you did not approve my comment because you wanted remarks from gassed up people. The show was an opportunity for African artists to broaden their audience, and they didn't take it. Instead, they're trying to get famous in the US through faux outrage, though their problem is their music still isn't known. Beyonce wasn't given her award on stage. The show was more a concert with two awards given to Nikki. If African artists want to break into the US market they should fine tune their marketing. Using BET to create controversy still won't get them what they need, which is more visibility on their music outside of Africa.

This is a polite insult from an ignorant black American. This is the story of America. They will never i repeat they will never accept songs from outside America no matter how good it sounds. Just because they don't understand the music doesn't make it wack. So all of a sudden Africa should learn music from America? Well for does of us saying she is right I don't blame you, its colonial mentality. Anything they do is the best cos they did it. Smh. Confused Director, you call their awards international. International means all around the world. African Artists music gets massive airplay in their home country first off all, All Fuse ODG's music is playlisted on BBC radio One. They sell out shows where ever they perform. African music is the biggest music played in every urban club in Europe right now. In Asia, South America the music is getting a lot of play in clubs. African artistes don't need American Radio politics and payola to play their music. They don't need to be big in America for you to recognize they got big fans following. You only know D'Banj music, you forget we have over 100 D'banj's making music professionally in our continent.
Madam don't insult the music over 1 billion Africans enjoy by calling it trash, because black American population is only 42 million, compare the power in numbers. We have not brought in the Oyinbos (Whites) loving African Music right. Please tell your small hip hop artistes to stop using f**k, B*tch in every song they make, before you tell us to improve the quality of Music.
Madam why is Jay-z interested in signing Nigerian Artistes? if the quality is not good. That's why MTVBASE is growing in Africa.
Like Wizkid said, "Just a bunch of peeps putting together a show" and also he said "Performing to his amazing fans is all i care about".
One advise Madam, Try Staging a BET awards show in Africa and see how we do it over here.

The woman is 100% correct. Most of our artists that we hail everyday and do camp this camp that for, are unknown outside the African communities in diaspora. Their music doesn't feature on mainstream media at all. MorE importantly, they don't make any money (music sales etc) for the international music corporations so they are irrelevant to them. Any artist you see in the billboard top 40 or uk top 40 is making a lot of money for a lot of people, so is valuable. The Nigerian culture of handling out largese in the form of multi million Naira corporate endorsements to Nigerian artists, is making some Nigerian artists more valuable than they actually are. Add to that money from various shows, private parties, gifts from state governments etc, these Nigerian artists start thinking they run things. How much cd sales or paid downloads have they achieved? How many times are their songs played in mainstream media abroad? Let me not even talk about the ethnic angle to the music industry were artists from particular tribes are bound to do better with less effort due to blind tribal loyalty, so long as they pander to the music tastes of their tribe.

Tbh word.. Our music is only listen by we Africans... Make ur music presentable to everyone one.. Its not about the beat.. Its the content

the truth is all nigerian artist are super wacked if not for telecommunications that enriches them that pile of junk called album wont sell beyond thier immediate family

WD said...

God bless this lady, she said it all.
This is what Dbanj wanted and all of you low life were trying to put tribalism into it. He saw the way the game is been played and he played it along while "not a Don Jazzy' was so scared and bowed out. Before you think i am not saying the truth and u feel like beating me up, why not look at this scenario, imagine an artist from Congo that wants to come into Nigerian music, he will have to do all what this BET lady said. (knowing that Nigerian music is the biggest in Africa and it will continue if we keep dishing out good stuffs but for us to get into their (US market, the world biggest market musically, we have to do what an average congo, tanzanian, Ghanian or other countries would do to enter 9ja music market.
Let us support and embrace some of us that have the courage to break the norm and tred the virgin path. God bless Dbanj for his actions, his name will never be forgotten and God bless Jazzy too for he will also be remembered. Other artist are scared of going out bcos they know they might be backlashed the way they did to dbanj. Let us encourage good move not just movement but good direction and cordinated and well organised movement. I see us getting there

Yes that's very true but is also true that our artists should up their game not necessarily leaving pigin out but let the lyrics make sense

Anonymous said...

It's the fact that she is saying "we" and "us" including herself in the story. Reporting like she is on our "African side". It's condescending! So what if they take it away. Are you trying to tell me that they make better music? Their lyrics are just as stupid a recycled as most African lyrics. To say we should be humble and all is bullshit. We are not even saying we want to perform,we are saying call us up on stage just like everyone else. Simple! I don't even know why Wizkid and all of them even bother complaining,it's the freaking BET award....ewww!

Unknown said...

So who is lying then??? Cos as far as I know, more dan one person accused dem of giving Africans their own awards backstage. Linda take note!

The thing is Nigerians and Africans as a whole like those that lie to them and tell them well done, you're doing well. Lets face the FACT, Do we really have any song that can stand and international competition, Is it the nonsense 'SHOW ME THE MONEY' or 'FANS MI'.

Our video directors are good but the songs themselves are 100% WACK. In as much as we're trying to keep our culture, music business is music business. Lets just IMPROVE and stop complaining

Livvsreamblog said...

You are foolish Anon 11:10. Destiny's child Michelle made a Nigerian sounding gospel song using a producer of Nigerian roots and using the exact same Nigerian hook in the song? The song was a hit among Africans and still topped the USA gospel charts for several weeks. Why can't Africans put in the same type of effort if you want BET award in the main show? If you ain't ready to put in the effort then keep your African swagger and don't expect star treatment from people abroad.

Anonymous said...

The only point she made that made sense was that we need to work on the quality of our music. Be that as it may, we have lots of African stars whose music meet international standards, eg, Asa, Femi Kuti, Angelique Kidjoe, Yessoundo, etc to mention a few.
Her team should do a better job of bringing these ones to the fore and acknowledging them. The fact that Wizkid, Yemi Alade, and Davido make us dance in the club and are popular African acts doesn't mean they should be nominated. Sorry guys, but their music really doesn't meet international standards.
This babe has just shown that she's a racist pig. Speaking of us being humble, has she forgotten that BET was created to promote black entertainment? What is more black than African music?
The fact that African awards are given backdoor means they do not appreciate the source of their unique music as black Americans, which is African music.

Anonymous said...

I agree with that she is not 100 percent right. Her definition of music with universal sppesly is Nicki minaj opening her boobs, Beyonce stalk naked, Riri into drugs and nudity which former killed bobbl Kristen and her likes. all our musicians may not bad at their best but some are singing songs relevant to their society. She is a racist who forgot her African root

Anon 12:02 they will play reggae and dancehall cos they are American genres just from the other side which is Caribbean, they understand what they are saying and BET has given the Caribbean a whole 10mins stage performance at the awards, they don't play indian music, they don't play makosa in clubs pdiddy go to and they don't play afrobeats cos they can't dance to it and they don't understand, why must we conform to there's? Some namibians or even Nigerians in the rural area still like in da club by 50cents without knowing the lyrics, anon 11:51 is saying anon 11:10 is foolish lol becuase of michelle williams! Michelle williams that her career is almost dead, if she was sure that song will be a hit she wouldn't involve destiny's child in the song, give me an eg of a real in vogue black american artist singing a song that's is kinda afro beat or makosa or indian then I will agree with you. Have you ever seen swizz beats or alicia keys or drake or big sean on IG or anywhere listening to makosa, I mean why must the song be in english, why must the beats and dance sound like the nae nae? Why can't people azonto or mapuka? Is english a black language? Does BET not mean Black Entertainmemt TV? The woman is so myopic she doesn't know what she is saying abeg...

She makes sense but did Fela's music was made for Africa yet it had universal appeal!! Bob Marley's music was made for Jamaica yet it had a universal appeal and as for Oliver Twist, the only reason it has "universal appeal" is because its video was shot in America and had American dancers and artistes. So I don't think it is anything to do with a universal appeal and more to do with not being up to standards!!

Anonymous said...

Nigerian musicians are wack! No one thinks outside the box singing the same old shit with stupid ass lyrics as far as dy can dance in clubs dy good we need uniqueness like fela, omawummi is trying too! Don jazzy is too local and so cliche ! Even Taylor swift doesn't do country and nicki doesn't just rap dy diversified! U people don't need to sit down and wait for tins to be handed down to u u need to go get it reason why is like Asa! u can't keep looking for elites attention in all ur songs and expect international recognition! Fashola ds Tinubu dt ! Give quality songs and Ull be recognized if not I'll never smell the Grammys ahan! Like she rightly said if u like boycott the BET na una dy loose d show will still go on ! Bunch of local minded artist hissss!

Unknown said...

She is right... no one gives a flying monkey about that categiry so the fact it exists shows that we are getting somewhere. These 'stars' that are boycotting the show has stupidly missed out on a big opportunity. That was the perfect time to network, speak to the American press and get your name out there. When life throws you a lemon, you make lemonade.

Dencia is a perfect example...she goes to these awards and dresses up in the most ridiculous outfits. Do you think she is stupid? No!! She wants to get on the worst dressed list. Thats how you get your face seen and eventually get your name heard.

These artists needs to use their number 6. One person complains and you all just want to jump on the badwagon. You should be glad your ass was nominated in the first place

Unknown said...

I think shes talking crap. If BET feels african stars or music isnt worth it yet, why bother giving them a category. Is it to remind them how little they are in the scheme of things? Giving out BET awards doesnt increase popularity for african stars or put more money in their pockets....so treat them as equals or dont bother. african music is growing by itself...when d time comes, its will grow to international level (like oliver twist). So they can start giving out the awards wen it gets to dat level, rather than give the awards 'backstage'. Do it well, or dont do it all.

Truth is, its not a question of quality of music, wizkid that was complaining has won a bet award before, am sure BET tot his sound was good enough if not they wouldnt have nominated him in the first place, so lets not bring in quality of music into this discussion or are you guys saying Future is more talented than Wizkid? I can count 10 Amercian artists that can hold a candle to our naija artist here so pleassseee! This is a matter of respect! They dont respect African artists and thats the truth. Y cant they present best international act during the award proper, MTV eruope awards that is 10 times bigger than BET presented Tuface's award back then during the award proper so y cant BET follow suit. Boycott that shit mennn, BET be acting like their ancestors arent africans..

Anonymous said...

So, in essence, the awards you give out to Africans are for mediocrity since they have not brushed up their music enough to have international appeal? Why then give them awards at all since they produce mediocre music? Why not wait until they brush up their music to suit your taste before dishing out awards? Young lady, your defense of bet is so lame. There's no way u can justify treating Africans differently from others. When u give someone an award, it means that the person has come of age and has achieved commendable level of excellence. Awards are not for mediocres.

Meanwhile, I have seen Grammy gives awards to musicians from outside of the US, whose music barely have international appeal and rarely played in the US and yet, the awards are given during the main invent not prior.

Do you see them complaining?do you include them in your own awards? Pls take her criticism and make them constructive and get your music out there, work hard on it,she mentioned Oliver Twist, that song is old but she still remembers it make yours known finish!!! Hmmm na wa o! We nigerians love insulting ourselves sha, we all want to be right and we will squash the other person if he/she has an opposing view. Unnecessarily rude race we are. Please they should scrap it the category, if they can't publicly appreciate Nigerian music why give awards? Who is voting for these African artist that are being nominated and awarded? You can't expect Olamide now to conform and start singing like Justin beiber cos he wants BET to recognise him, why should we conform? We have crappy songs and artist, there's no denying that but we also have some fantastic songs and artist too like every other country in the world.
Of all songs madam BET could use as an example she had to go for Oliver twist! How in God's name is that song universal? What meaningful and sensible lyrics does that song have??????
To me o! BLACK Entertainment Television is being pretentious and racist.
The Golden Globe doesn't have a category for African movies cos they don't understand our movies and we are okay with that. Why have a category for Africans and then give them awards back stage prerecorded? No be by force na. Why would madam BET tell our Nigerian artist to conform and start sounding American just so we can get a bloody category on BET? Why should some1 like Terry G waste his time and his money promoting his songs in America when they won't understand him? Or does she want Terry to now start singing like Neyo in other to get an award from BET??? Why would anyone born with a full brain suggest that an African not just any African o, a Nigerian sound American in other to be recognized????? Fuck BET and Fuck the awards.
Accept the fact that you are a Nigerian and others might not understand you and be proud of it. Leave our bad and good artist, we love them, we are the ones making them rich by buying the tickets and albums, we will award them.

what has the awards ever gotten anybody, free visa to obodooyinbo???
Why can't the content BET airs in Africa be aired in America? If they can't they should take a page from mtv? Give Africans there own network (mtv base)...they we can have our own award shows.

To be honest, I think Lillian Blankson got it spot on, we need to be able to decipher the truth even through information that hurts. Nigerian music does not have enough international appeal and clearly broadcasting stations will air the pleasure of their audiences, so I definitely thin Nigerian Artists are being a bit entitled to assume they'd get aired. Nigeria has a lot of taleneted musicians who can sing but not so many who understand how to grow with the trend and adapt .... I respect D'banj in some respect for this, cos even though he knew the split would be hard he had to change his sound to get international appeal. I am quite sure he was advised by professionals in this regard , it just may be that the advisers do not have enough of local knowledge of what make songs 'rock' and he may loose out in that. The bottom line is if you want to gain relevance 'Internationally' you have to create appeal.

On that note , I am proud to present to you Gnostic Music Entertainment (G.M.E.). It is our vision to create Nigerian music with a greater international appeal and get more people to appreciate and enjoy our music while focussing on creating greater consciousness by addressing universal issues that can be related to by all. We are artiste managers and brand consultants.... Our team is made up of Individuals driven by a strong passion for music, and dedicated researchers and experts in various ancillary fields.

"Let us build your brand and help us spread the consciousness one mind at a time till we get a Universal State of Mind (U.S.M.)"

She is so damn correct. One of the biggest stations here in New York is "hot Fm 97.1" it is a bad ass station respected a lot by artistes and they have given tons of them a platform with Ibro, Rosenburg and Laura styles talking to Wale, chris brown, usher , Nicky m, meek mill.... However I have only heard Oliver Twist played once from the radio station and I went wild .... Anyhow she hit the nail on the head

Question is, America did not get your recognised in the first place why play to try to get into that market. It took rap almost thirty years to get some recognition outside of black circles and rap still struggles. Please you make enough money already in africa and with africans in the diaspora.

Nigerians and ignorance, this woman is saying the truth 100%....I personally don't listen to any nigeria songs cos it lacks creativity. I can't believe yemi alade too wants to win bet award with her wack lyrics smh. Our artists only get ratings on twitter after so much tweets and hashtags. Personally, I'm more interested in the lyrics of a song not the soundtrack, and that is what this woman is trying to say. Our artists are not creative with lyrics. Before y'all start talking about how much money they make nd blablabla, then let them stick to their level and stop looking for international ratings

Ladies n gentlemen please note, the only reason bet is in naija is because we all view their channel, thats one. 2 the reason our artist re in any category is because they want us to yarn n view their awards.
Theirfore all they are doing is just to take our money. They have no ears for our tunes n they have no regards for views. Please note they actually think we re stupid for loving our stars. N if an artist no matter how myopic, is accepted by his people, that artist is valid.
So wen madam america bet tells us they need come america is bcos our money is valueless n our ratings yeild peanut compared to the american artist n soo... y on earth would they bother their high revenue artist with the sight of the "project help africa"
Bottomline as far as they re concerned we are just a side attraction, the award-a product of their generosity
they re just giving back to africa, dont expect much!
Ask ursef why even mtvbase use the word "most gifted..." to qualify their awards for african artist n use "best...." for the american n so on... they actually dont u to devalue the award they give to their stars
Our government really need to step up. These channel trunket our indigineuos media channels n media producers. Bcos we allow them to rule us. They dont know our artist bcos their government dont allow it. D american media for american. N so on....

D lady is very correct, thank God for humble guys like two face idibia and davido who are blazing the trail with humility and not trying to turn their nose up at people. Bet giving our African artistes a platform is something we should be proud of and we continue working hard to get ourselves up there. At least we have one foot in the door now.

Dis woman is very stupid nd confused, how com no 1 in dia office is willing 2 show or tell ha how stupid she sounds. Tot dey call it African category nd not universal category, d songs are appealing 2 us, d songs are 4 us nd not 4 dem, dey are d type of songs we like so y shud dey do anytin oda dan wot we like. And by d way, its not also all dia songs dat appeal to us here, like dia country music sounds like crap 2 most of us here. How I wish I ll have d opportunity 2 argue dis, she might be educated but she no get sense really. Like Jeez!!! Must we do tins dia own way? We are Africans nd it makes a lot of sense 2 spare us like 5mins of dia time on BET awards, its not like we are asking 4 d whole day

This an insult with ones intelligence. Playing with words. Tks to your smart lawyers who wrote this. Please its known period the Caribbean's would nit have an audience if they were not given a chance. Lick ass if I was an artist and they invite me I will say busy. Even Rhianna criticised tour management. Very disrespectful invite someone treat them less of help. Keep it moving with your plat of words.

Exactly! She said it well.. To keep it simple, our music is not known internationally! who will cheer our artists up when they hit the stage? they are famous here, signing deals, doing shows, taking expensive trips, saying they are going for shows in this and that country, to perform for a 90% black audience.( africans) our Nigerian songs have not even made it to the billboard charts and our artist want to rub shoulders with them. She said it 100% right.. our artist have not worked hard enough to cross over internationally and they want international recognition like that. all they do here is baby mama and baby daddy! fly here and there, buy Range Rover, but G- wagon... Attend this and that gathering etc..

Unknown said...

You nailed it. Her ignorant statement is just a wake up call for our artist to work harder but not for some stupid BET award

Unknown said...

Please tell me again what the likes of rick Ross, wizkhalifa, lilwayne etc talks about except guns, weed, pussy and money? And if that is accepted then all I got from what she wrote is for African artist to come lick their butt till they are pleased #Racism

U wey dey talk dense about Oliver twist 4get oo d song reign tire ova dere more dan Nigeria sef #dumb ass

Initially, It took Akon forever to get airplay in the State. If African artist doesn't like the treatment they should totally snub the award. artist like p square and co are too big for this nonsense. On the order note Afrcan artist need to step up their game.
