FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, opens up new world class district in Abuja

The land swap model of the Federal Capital Territory Administration kicked-off on Thursday April 18th with a ceremony for the development of a new world class district in Abuja called The Carraway Dallas District, named after the first black mayor of Dallas, Dwaine Carraway.

The  Caraway Dallas district is the first ever land-for-infrastructure exchange in West Africa driven by Public-Private-Partnership Initiative. It will cost over N26 billion to develop this new world class district situated along Keffi Road, adjacent Mogadishu Barrack. Continue...

Individuals are expected to provide the required infrastructures within the districts in exchange for 60% of buildable plots, while 40% would be retained by the Federal Capital Territory Administration for allocation.

The district is designed to have 9-hole golf course, schools, police station, fire service station, car parking facilities, residential areas grouped into smaller communities and villas, stunning views over the valley, recreational areas, mosque, church, shopping mall, farmers’ market, hospital, artificial lake, sports club, and a luxury hotel. The district covers a land mass of 220 hectares

Very commendable insight here, but I just pray its actualisation doesn't get impeded by corruption and avariciousness as usual.

BTW who is Carraway Dallas ti Nigerians???

When will we get it right in Nigeria? Our GDP is rising but our inequality is growing too so what's the point? Instead of them to in invest in low-cost housing so people don't have to drive for hours to get to work in the city centre this is what they're doing. And why in God's name are they naming it after an American mayor? Black or not, what is his business with Nigeria. One day the poor will have nothing else to eat but the rich and we know how brutal desperate Nigerians can be.

Arrant nonsense...these dense so-called politicians, why not at least upgrade all the expanse of infrastructure we have to improve the wellbeing of the masses/majority before embarking on white elephant projects like these, that's just going to enrich a chosen few? Wickedness in high places...ses the yeye name sef..carraway I don't mind but Dallas..please!

Wetin concern the name of a new district in Abuja and the name of the first mayor of Dallas? Can't we just use a Nigerian name?

Anonymous said...

This is another way to introduce hardship. Govt had never done anything for the masses to benefit from. Naming it after an American is not right and it shows some kind of inferiority complex on Nigeria as a nation.

I don't think America had or will ever name any part of America to honor any of the good Nigerians.

Grand scale Monopoly

So we now have a "Carraway Dallas District" in Abuja when we haven't even gotten around to naming Districts after our National icons like Zik or Saro Wiwa.

May God forgive you people

Abuja is getting really populated. i think this guys should fix a proper railway system. we heard they have been building one, but we have been hearing that for years. Any big city needs a railway system. www.fusion.com.ng

what's special about this project that it is costing 26 billion? besides judging from the look of the model (pic) the land is not being properly used aside from the low grade structures on it, even some private estates in Abuja have better plans.

And i also think naming it after an American is all a facade to take away our attention from the 'real' owners.

Even the rich won't be able to afford this,it will be like buying a house abroad cos by the end of this project the priv developers Would have spend so much the prices has to be high.
These Priv Developers are paying 350mill to gov as initial payment to get a district aside the main work, which is putting world class infrastructure (they will be supervised btw).
I can't understand what this proj is aimed at?....providing housing for who?,pple that can't afford!
Just another joke of this administration.I keep smh for naija!!

it's actually a commendable thing we build the future from now? so also we must really ask who are the expected and projected beneficiaries? cus we emphasize that this government consider the non politicians benefit. Again well we hope that two things don't terminate the success of this project. 1. the cancer-corruption, that enables them loot away the fund and 2. becomes and abandoned project.
because they can always add value to our environment.
lastly I believe they really have considered quality security measures incorporated to this project. Best wishes.

This is silly. Why is this being named after someone from Dallas? What has Dallas got to do with Nigeria? Stuff like this annoys me...

This wicked country and its leaders and Ministers.. How can they be planning to spend 26 billion on a new district when the existing ones don't even have roads, water or light. Go and see the road construction they re doing in Guzape near Asokoro, their is no one living there ooo, it's just clearly the politicians and big mans land. While people who live in kuje, Jiwoyi, karu, kabuwa, and other LGAs dont ve roads to move on...nonsense people they will all pay for there sins.. New district for what
