Seriously I think this president is really stupid. No offence but he did he get up one day and decide to change the name of an organization like this?
Without consulting those that will be affected?

John Harvard gave half his money (GBP. 799) and his personal library to the College. Thus it was renamed Harvard College then Harvard University. University of Lagos can be renamed. Its not a big deal. And Linda it doesnt change the fact you went to Unilag. Just like University of Ife graduates still see themselves as that and not OAU. Dont worry, MAU will catch on.

Just before Unilag/Maulag students starts celebrating, please bear in mind that His Excellency Emperor GEJ said on National TV he doesn't need any parliamentary approval to change the name and secondly if his excellency "the one that had no shoes" can say that he doesn't give a damn about the constitution and what it says about asset declaration, I don't see what qualms he will have with levelling the school and turning it into Luxury flats.

Finally someone with common sense and intelligence in Nigeria!!!! I am not an UNILAG student, but I feel their frustration! Almost every major city in the world has an university named after it, and the Nigerian president wants to divert all his attention to change Lagos university's name! Go and resolve more serious issues Mr. President!!!

Olodo Linda, why the tanx? An interim injunction is given to restrain a party from acting while the case is still on....its a normal thing.example is if govt wants 2 destroy ur house,u may seek ano interim order while you fight them in court.doesnt mean if they win,u wont still get thrown out.hold ur breath its jus the begining

Linda,

The Court proceedings of today is not as most blogs/Twitterers are reporting o! Nothing of such happened as counsel to the various parties gave an undertaking to maintain status quo as service has not been effected on all the parties. The judge did not even delve into the substance of the suit.
So kindly amend the post to reflect such... thank you

take that Gej. Confusionist, leave unilag alone it is not our problem. Just witnessed a ghastly accident that took the life of a woman why poor infrastructure any he Goat can drive trucks also drive on small roads whic are for smaller cars. I weep for my country. Gej should leave unilag they are not the problem

It's about time these God forsaken courts do something reasonable. God I hate this country. Anything goes, worse is we always just sit back and let s**t happen.

Anonymous said...

this is an interim order, it is not final.

its educative to know how the court/law operates so that we don't begin to 'count our chicken before they are hatched.' when the court finally hear the case, they may vacate the restraining order.

a interim order simply means, 'wait....stop action temporarily' until the court hears the case'.

if someone takes you linda ikeje blog to court to obtain a restrain g order from calling your blog LIB, the court will 'stop' you.

Correct. More money for loubs and hermes. Congrats o jare. Fine mama.

@Linda, ds is not a matter of thank you sir. Ds case can't be won in d law court, d solution to ds problem is for d alumni to lobby d national assembly,PDP and even Jonathan to drop the idea of renaming the school.
The school has gone to court while Jonathan has gone to national assembly, unfortunately or fortunately, d court can't stop NASS not to perform their primary function. If d bill to rename d school scale through d house, there is nothing d court can do, it has to bow down to the constitution.
My simple advice to all d Unilag or Maulag students and their alumni, leave d court and concentrate on NASS and PDP to prevail on Jonathan to drop d idea or lobby d national assembly not to pass d law renaming d school.

Anonymous said...

That is not exactly true. The constitution gave the judiciary certain rights one of which is to watch the excesses of the executive and the legislature.
Again, the leslators live amongst us and when this kind of recklessness as exhibited by Mr Jonathan happens and the people revolts against it like all of us have done, the legislators have no choice than to abide by it.

@Ewure-is-a-goat and others, truly new college was renamed harvard. New college was founded in 1636 and it became harvard in 1639, 3yrs; no graduate yet, and it was training just clergy then, but Unilag is 50yrs with severally graduates. MKO abiola is an institution, likewise Unilag, and u can't kill one for the other, GEJ just established 9 new varsities, y not one of them.
And the question of wat is in a name answers itself, if nofin is in a name y change a name? Ask Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, hafsat corstello abiola...
Ghandi sayso via his blackberry thuraya, he bought it @ Aswani market..****gbam###

U NEED HELP!!! Obviously u have no intelect to understand why it doesn't make sence changing the name.

Anonymous said...

I don't care how u think or reason. Calling a President stupid makes you a fool. Hear this once again, God puts men in positions of power for reasons best known to him. Let that get into ur head.

Anonymous said...

Hahaha. Are Naija peeps this naive? What the court gave was an interim order to enable the case to be heard. The court cannot hear a case when the action is already fait accompli. So once the 2 parties are heard, the court will then decide what the final decision will be. Note however, that naming, renaming, creating, terminating or whatever of a federal university is purely within the power of the executive. It is only the legislature that can oppose it, but even at that, the president can exercise his veto rights under the constitution. Chikena!!

Even the Bible agrees that a name is of uttermost importance if not abram won't be changed to abraham n jacob changed to israel.I hope National assembly ll figure out that GEJ's decision to rename unilag is unpopular amongst Nigerians.even sages like awolowo do not ve the honor of a university and polytechnic named after them as it were.fed govt can name aso rock after MKO cos d ppl that nufflified june 12 elections lived there

Anonymous said...

U get a life, was it God that put GEJ in power? ode!!! †̥ђε̲̣̣̣̥ fact that God allowed pdp to rig does not mean he approves u hear.ignorant people like u that keep relating every thing that happens to God are †̥ђε̲̣̣̣̥ problem in this country.oloshi
I suppose u would have advised unilag alumni to take †̥ђε̲̣̣̣̥ renaming of their alma mata to God in prayer. Don't stand up for ur right continue to wallow in ur ignorance and call people that are more aware stupid.-Palo
