Wayne Treacy, 15, and a 13-year-old girl are being held in a juvenile detention center in connection with the attack at Deerfield Beach Middle.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Josie Lou Ratley's cell phone was used by the 13-year-old friend to send text messages to Treacy, with whom the friend had a relationship.
But Ratley sent messages of her own to Treacy, expressing her disapproval of the relationship and making a "disparaging" reference to the October suicide of Treacy's brother, said Sheriff Al Lamberti.
That remark incensed Treacy, who put on steel-toed boots, texted friends that he was going to kill Ratley, and rode his bicycle three miles from his home to Deerfield Middle to find her, the Sheriff's Office said. When he got to the campus, the 13-year-old friend pointed out Ratley, knowing Treacy intended to harm her, the Sheriff's Office said.
The friend was arrested Thursday on a count of accessory to attempted murder and was ordered held for 21 days in juvenile detention while prosecutors review the case.

Ratley's family released a series of disturbing photos taken in the 15-year-old girl's hospital room as she continues to be treated for head injuries suffered during a brutal assault.

Now am not defending the boy but when a loved one dies(especially through suicide) it does something to you, image were some one talks about them or their death in disparaging words....she got what was coming to her but he should have just given her some serious 'igbati' to teach her to shurrup
that boy needs to be jailed and charged for attempted murder as an adult
that girl got what she deserved she should have kept her mouth shut and this wouldnt of happened luckily the boy is a minor maby he will learn from his mistake and do it better next time maby find her by herself alone and not tell anyone.
