'All is not well with Nigeria' Catholic Bishops say as they meet with GEJ

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, a body of Nigerian priest, paid a visit to Pres. Jonathan yesterday at the State House to express concern over increasing attacks by Boko Haram members in the North East.

The groups president and Archbishop of Jos diocese, Bishop Ignatius Kaigama, who spoke with newsmen after their closed door meeting with President Jonathan, said they were at the state house to talk about lack of security in Nigeria and find out what the government is doing about it...

"We feel that things are not right. Territorially, our land is being taken away; the people we look after are displaced, their homes, their villages and towns are captured and they are internally displaced, being refugees in their own land.

We thought this is not right. We have families that are just stranded. We thought that the President should know. As Catholics, we have laid a good structure for relief and taking care of such situation, we want the government to collaborate with us. We just wanted to remind him of things he already knows, there was nothing we said that was new, we just wanted to lay emphasis and we wanted him to know we are concernedThe President is already doing his bit; he has assured us that he is on top of the situation"
Bishop Kaigama argued that although muslims have also been killed during the various attacks, the primary aim of Boko Haram is to wipe out Christianity and islamiatize Nigeria
"When we admit that some Muslims are also targeted, we want to believe that the principal aim and concern of Boko Haram is to eliminate Christianity and pave the way for total Islamization of the country" he said

There was a Country called Nigeria where President OBJ's voice alone was enough to dislodge the militants and fundamentalists. Baba tried to advise his boy, GEJ but was shouted down. Is there still a C in C in this country?

Religion is a b**ch. Religion is behind most of the conflicts in the world. Christians caused enough havoc in their day ( the Crusades, the Inquisitions, witch-huntings, etc) now its the turn of muslims. If you have to fight and kill to protect your God, then I guess He must be a very weak and sorry fellow and that says it all!

These Religion Leaders are the Problems of Nigeria. If you cant believe this, you are more likely to believe the colour of the 'red' blood cells...

When God gives you a platform and you use it for pushing this kind of 'political'message as these men has done here, it is tantamount to wasting God's resources. This is a clear case of the corruption of the mind that is sweeping across this nation. It is a big shame and unfortunately the Nigerian Church does not know it, that is why it is dancing like this in public. Why are we using the platform of a gospel that set others free to bind ourselves in a rot? Think Nigeria , think.

**Before you criticize, Google the words 'FRENCH REVOLUTION' and feast yourself with good knowledge!!

Thank God for Catholic Bishops, the President should be re-informed that things are indeed bad in Nigeria. Unlike their counterparts in CAN & PFN who choose to butt-lick the Presidency, Oritsejafor especially.

Was in Nigeria a couple of weeks ago and honestly I had to run back to my base. Ife amaro kwuru in my home country. Living in fear everyday. God bless Naija still.

I have always supported the Govt of GEJ but at this crucial time, our president is not on top of his game. I understand the politics behind all these but as the General commander in chief of armed forces, putting an end to Boko should be easy through equipping them, disabling those connected/sponsoring them.
I pray he steps up his game.

Not everyone cares for brown envelope, the bishops are only playing their spiritual role as shepherds of God's people. It didn't start today, pls reflect on ur thoughts before they become words.

Nigeria deserves a leader like Jonathan. Everything about the guy is dumb (his look, his wife & his stupid dress). Any nation with smart & intelligent citizens will not allow a person like GEJ to even run for a LG chairman talkless of a state Gov. How can Nigerians allow this guy to even think of running again? In Bayelsa where he came from, those people are lazy, drunk and all they know is getting 14, 15 years old girls pregnant. Nigerians are truly idiots.

Victoria said...

"Waste" in what sense? Are they supposed to keep mute and criticize from behind and then come to his face and tell him all is well with the country? By the way, I know what french-revolution was, it was about a people fighting against slavery in the name of religion, it has got nothing to do with what we' re experiencing today.

We don't need a herbalist to tell us that, even the blind can see it clearly that all is not well with our dear nation #onelovefromSnow#

Hello, u don't have the resources of the President of Nigeria nor any counter-terrorism training (I'm guessing)... Yet even u have a theory on how to curb the bloodshed. So I guess my question to u is "when exactly do u feel ur prayers will be answered?"... Perhaps after a few more thousands have died or been displaced?
If he had any "game" to step up (or had any interest in stepping it up) I believed he would have.
Definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again, and each time expecting a different result.

U just de rant like "idiot" since...were you impregnated within d bracket...calm down & don't insult people...stop playing d sophisticated/quintessential moron! U know "too much" abt Bayelsa!

U are a fool

Unknown said...

I will keep saying it again and again,"only God can save Nigeria".Respect to the Catholic Bishops and priests but notifying GEJ won't solve the problem.Notifying God can through incessant prayers and fasting.By His grace, this is a story we will definitely be telling our children some day.God bless Nigeria.

There;s no commander in chief in this country cos obviously that title has become only ceremonial.
Secondly, could we stop being such foolish jerks in this country? Why do we carry religion on our head for no good reason? I am a Christian and I always tell people, religion is different from having a relationship with God. Why do we mix both up in this country? You mean to tell me that your religion is greater than a fellow human being or better than another human life. Jesus said the greatest of all commandments is LOVE. Love God & Love your fellow human being as you love yourself.
Here, people would carry religion on top their heads and not even give a damn about fellow human beings. Enough of this whole rag-tales of "boko haram wants to islamize Nigeria"...that shitty story is dividing us more than it's helping us.
It doesn't matter what boko haram wants, they are just enemies of our nation and so by every means necessary we must destroy them. These things just keep showing that we lack people with genuine leadership characters in this country cos most Nigerians always attach to a side sentimentally to the detriment of us being one team.
If I were president, I would send a bill to the senate to make religious propaganda of any sort highly punishable...whether Christian or Muslim. Preach in your Church or Mosque & leave the other people to also preach and enjoy their faith. Any attempt to ridicule any faith by any means would have you punished heavily.

God Bless Nigeria. Amen.

Anon 2:21, I totally agree with you. I mean, it's sad to see that he's even thinking of running again!!!! I mean, even a 2 year old guy know HE'S not a leader- at all. Wts more scary is the fact that he might win- no credible opponent to contest against him... sad n scary

I see u must find a way to display your stupidity.when you say Christians should unite "as Catholics" I wonder how u got to pass through primary six exam.you should also wonder why Winners Chapel warship as one and see Bishop David as their over all daddy.u see my friend people like u are the problem we facing today.and to Yall thinking catholic is some different body or religion from what your pastor preaches.u fools, the almighty God condemns u.u are warned.WE ALL ARE ONE IN CHRIST.

Anonymous said...

I can see how foolish you are.but I really wonder how a young man like u could be so down.you really think they getting bribed?why dint you ask ur self the possibilities first, why bishops would dress up and go for a bribe at this crucial time before posting this nonsense.morals is what you children lack,be very careful o,God should not be mocked
