Nigerian democracy activist and women's rights advocate Dr. Josephine Okei-Odumakin, was one of the 10 phenomenal women who were honored by US first lady, Michelle Obama and US Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Friday March 8th in the US.

Dr. Josephine, who is the president of Campaign for Democracy and President of Women Arise for Change Initiative, was presented with the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award by John Kerry and Michelle Obama at a ceremony that held at the Dean Acheson Auditorium of the U.S. Department of State.

The annual Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award honors extra-ordinary women around the world who have done great work in advocating for human rights, women’s equality, and social progress. See more photos after the cut.

Congrats to her. I know she was trying to rep Naija by wearing the top she had on; I don't think it was necessary especially when it is so tight on her. You don't see Michelle wearing the US flag on her. A simple pin of our flag would have spoken volume than the tight shirt she had on. Good job all the same.

Congratulations to Mrs Jo Odumakin. She is a real aluta activist. When you hear her speak, you'll know the aluta thing is in her blood! Lol! I like the fact that she dressed so simply with her green white green shirt. That's just how she is normally. Even though I wouldn't dress that way to see the first lady of the most powerful country in the world, I respect Mrs Odumakin for not trying to change who she is, just to impress. God bless her!

I hate Michelle's dress. I HATE IT. who is her stylist? She is not a "too much design" personality. She needs straight cuts, no frills, no flowery stuff, military style. Fine woman and she come dey resemble housegirl and I hope she develops ringworm on her head. That seems to be the only way to cause her to get rid of that NASTY bang thing that is hiding her beauty and [no pun intended] making her look HIDEOUS!

Yes o ...na me...I made the comment about helping designers via this platform. I also totally congratulate and celebrate her. But true true, if na some people dem for dress well, yes we get brains but also carriage and beauty. THIS IS NOTE FOR MANY MORE NIGERIAN WOMEN WHO WILL BE RECOGNISED REAL SOON.SEEK ADVICE. Rep Nigeria properly na.... graceful, humble, motherly, not jaga jaga like eh bus conductor. This look will attract pity from some people in that room ( like omg,she is really from a very poor clueless country) which is not the message she is sending..Kapish?
