"I want to thank Goodluck Jonathan for bringing facebook to Nigeria" Minister of Information

"I Want To Thank GEJ For Bringing Facebook To Nigeria"- Minister of Information, Labaran Maku @ President Goodluck Jonathan's 'Facebook' book launch that held on Monday Dec 20, 2010 at Eko Hotel, Lagos.

Ha ha ha! How embarrassing!
Let me officially thank MTN for bringing telephone to Naija..lol
But to be fair to the minister, people are saying he meant to say Jonathan introduced social networking to Nigerian politics. Now most politicians are using it to reach the masses...but still...

That Ministry is gaffe-prone. He's just started drinking from the cup of power and he's already drunk!

I think I'm with you on your opinion. I don't see how our dear minister could have meant the President actually brought the popular social networking site to the consciousness of Nigerians.(All man know say Naija people don tey for facebook parole na)

Besides, though I can't claim to be a 100 per cent certain, I believe Goodluck truly leads the pack of politicians adopting Facebook as a means of connecting with their supporters and future voters.

It's nothing but a mere misappropriation of words on the minister's part and error of understanding on those who received the message.

A quite humurous situation though, one might say.

even u should by now that the statement was taken out of context, he was talking about the increased interest in sharing information via social networks and Goodluck did increase its popularity amongst people in government.

Why should a serving minister be at a political event?

Secondly why should a serving minister endorse a politician in an election campaign?

As for brining FB to naija, they should all be ashamed, how many naija youths have an opportunity to develop a fb type site from naija?

Na wa for this Govt, instead of employing intelligent, articulate, and self-assured professionals who can handle the post well, this mallam was placed as Information Minister. Haaaaaaaaaa!!!! This is a national disgrace, and there are millions of Nigerians who can do better than this man in the labour market, languishing in the state of underemployment or unemployment.

One day, one day, e go better for naijaa.....Apologies to Eldee.

A very silly and unintelligent way to pass the message Mr. Minister.

Sisi mi, it does not take rocket science to figure that out now ahah.

This reminds me of Barkin Zuwo in the 80s who said we had many minerals in Nigeria like coke and fanta. I was in primary school then. My bottom jaw was on the floor then. Now this totally backward person comes and says these things. How can you be information minister when the only thing you can do is speak hausa, minimal english and sign contracts??? I thought we had stopped doing this in Nigeria. I thought these were relics of the past administrations. With all the educated and sharp people in Nigeria, you have the likes of these being minister! Former articulate ministers of Information, Frank Nweke and Dora Akinyuli must be shuddering at their replacements.

@Anonymous 10:30 AM. Nigerian politicians like Fashola were on Facebook before GEJ. Me too I dey laugh o. The Information Minister is a dimwit that's all.

He may have suffered for a long time and just made it. He should go back to school. What are his qualifications?

And this man was a former journalist and deputy governor of Nassarawa State. This is not the only gaffe he committed, he also assumed that David Plouffe (Obama's Campaign Manager & Head of his Social Networking Political Strategy) was the founder of facebook.

It is more than possible this Minister is not on face book.

LMFAO....so much for an Information Minister!

Anonymous said...

I might be wrong but I think he is saying he is grateful for the President communicating with the citizens of Nigeria. Obama communicates with Americans through twitter and facebook on his plans. This is what Goodluck is doing. What other president has communicated with Nigerians? Exactly. Sorry Linda but I disagree with you here.
