3 win AMAA best actress of 2010. Is this alright or silly?

I'm sure you all know three Ghanaian actresses won Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) that held some weeks back in Bayelsa State. The actresses are: Jackie Appiah, Lydia Forson and Naa Ashoku Mensa-Doku for their role in the movie Picture Perfect.

What I don't understand is, why three of them? Why couldn't the judges or organizers pick just one out of the three of them?

I'm sure most of you have seen the movie, The Hours, that featured Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep. The three actresses gave stellar performances, but only one actress won the Oscar - Nicole Kidman.

So what's with three actresses winning one award at AMAA? Is that alright or is it silly? I vote silly...

Linda...na where you get this 'k-leg' info from. FYI, Jackie Appiah is the only one who won the best performance by an actress in a leading role. You can check the link here for a full list of the winners. http://www.thenetng.com/2010/04/11/the-figurine-beats-them-all-at-amaa/

What is really silly is the fact that these women were even nominated at all... Yes, the movie was okay but it wasnt worthy of the accolades it has been receiving! People are acting like it was the African Godfather or some classic like that... It was just alright. Off the top of my head I can think of performances which were better than these three- Nse Etim in Reloaded was FANTASTIC! Not to mention Genevieve in Silent Scandal or Fathia Balogun in Omo Iya Kan... These are talented actresses who could have been nominated (maybe Jackie Appiah as well cos she was the best in this film) and could have easily beat the three women from The Perfect Picture. The film wasn't bad but COME ON.

Linda baby...I didn't say you made the story up o. I was just wondering if the 'source' you got the info from is credible. Cos i've not read anywhere else online about this. It all sounds so stupid & silly to me sha. The film must've been really good for them to be undecided about the winner.

I think the question should be if them deserved the award. Ties in best actor/actress category is not unusual. Btw, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore won (all three) the 'Silver Bear Award' for Best Actress for 'The Hours'

linda is correct. all three actresses won. i dunno what the amaa website or other websites are saying. i watched it live on ait. it was quite boring. even though basorge and his co-host tried to make it funny. the jokes didn't make sense at all. and top actors/actresses were not there. like someone else already said, i duno why the award is in bayelsa. how many actors are from the area? how many live there? how many movies have been shot in bayelsa? they should have looked at lagos, where more than 90% of nigerian actors live, then maybe enugu or even abuja. haba bayelsa? abeg if they don't change, this award show will go down like the older ones (REEL AWARDS, etc).another problem i have with them is calling it the AFRICAN MOVIE ACADEMY AWARDS, by calling it that, they try to dominate the films categories with african films that nigerians have never heard, seen, or will ever see. they shud just stick to nigeria because africa is too large a continent to organize an award show. even kora awards have different categories for east, west, south and north, but AMMA claims to jumble all of them up. i don't think the award show will last. there's nothing interesting about the nominees, the venue, the preparations, the guests, etc. i dunno. i was only excited about ramsey's win, and WTF he wasn't even there. but that was the highlight for me. the show was very awkward and boring to watch.

@Linda - only Jackie Appiah won the award. It was not all three of them. Check the official awards press release.
@F - The actresses were nominated for their PERFORMANCE in the movie. Don't hate because the actresses are Ghanaian (I'm from Cameroon by the way, not Ghana). As Africans we always put each others' work down. We need to stop doing that.

It wasn't just one category that had more than 1 winner.
I think it utterly silly. If that how it works then they should have given everyone a plaque.
AMAA, una try but please sit up.

Well, it is a fact that all 3 won. By the way,the AMAA site is so useless. Half the links don't even work and they only show some of the award winners. Why the hell do you have a site if you can't keep it functioning properly. half half work!! Mschewwwwwwwww.

But, ya 3 won and no one is even acknowledging the other 2 actresses- only Jackie. LOL. I feel sorry for the other 2 sha.
