Nomination for Seven Wonders of Nigeria begins...

The process to find and select the 7 must see locations in Nigeria “Naija 7” have begun with the inauguration of the search committee. A list of the initial 50 members has been released and as the project progresses more experts are to join the team. It is expected that with the national spread of the Committee members they will gather information from sites near them and furnish the project with these sites. Nominations can be made through the website www.africantravelquarterly.com of ATQ magazine from the 20th of April or through members.

Almost every media house with a tourism and culture page is represented on the committee. The nomination period will end in May, when the committee will start the screening process for the initial shortlist of 21. For anything to qualify as a wonder, its appearance must be UNIQUE, The location must be ACCESSIBLE, it must have some major function today or had in the past, it must have the capacity to ATTRACT and EXPLOIT, it must be AVAILABLE always and RELIABLE as a product, i.e. Outstanding engineering marvels, architectural masterpieces.
= The most appealing
= The most intriguing
= The richest in history
= The most Amazing
= The most exciting to behold
= The most sought after
= The most popular

For the Natural wonders of Nigeria the same rules apply except that they must be naturally occurring wonders with breathtaking natural beauty, unique and amazing wildlife.

Hmmm... Off the top of my head... Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Ogun state and the Ikogosi springs in Ekiti state, maybe... Zuma rock near Abuja as well... So many myths surrounding that one... This is a cool initiative. Let's see what the list looks like in the end.
