Redeemer's University recalls 28 expelled students - students to face panel

In early February 2013, 28 students of the Redeemer University were expelled  by the university for allegedly failing drug tests. (See the story HERE)

According to new reports, following the controversy that trailed the expulsion, the University has rescinded its decision. They've written letters to the affected students and asked them to report to school and face a panel set up by the school to look into the the case. The students will get the opportunity to explain why they failed the test, after which the panel will make a decision about each student.

Oscar Pistorius gives his account of the night he shot dead his GF

Oscar Pistorius appeared in court today and gave his account of what happened at his home the night he shot his girlfriend dead. As far as I'm concerned, it's BS. See it below

He claimed he had been on the balcony of his house when he heard noises from the bathroom. Believing Reeva Steenkamp was asleep in bed, he grabbed his gun and shouted a warning before firing four shots through the door. It was only then, Pistorius claims that he realised Miss Steenkamp was not in bed.

'I kicked the door open,' he said  'I tried to help her but she died in my arms.'

You shouted a warning and she didn't respond? I'm beginning to believe this man is a cold blooded killer. His explanation makes no sense. Is the bathroom not in the bedroom? And to walk from the balcony to the bed where he kept his gun, wouldn't he have noticed his girlfriend was not in bed? Unbelievable! See his full statement after the cut...

Dear Linda, please could you help me ask your male readers why men are so heartless? Don't they have mothers and sisters? How would they feel if someone was to mistreat them? How can a woman give you the best years of her life, and you still dump her like a piece of garbage? My younger sister dated this guy for five years here in the UK and in December 2012 he told her he was going to Nigeria to spend Christmas with his family. She wanted to go with him but he said that there was no need that he would be back in two weeks. It was all lies. We found out about a week ago that he married another woman around Christmas while in Nigeria. Both traditional and white wedding. Which means he had been planning his wedding while he was eating my sisters food and sleeping with her here. What kind of a man does that? And since our family found out we've been trying to reach him but he has refused to speak with us or even explain or apologize to my sister. He hasn't returned to the UK since he left in December. My sister has been acting suicidal since she found out about his marriage. He didn't even have the decency to end things with her before marrying someone else. You know what they say Linda, Lucifer used to be an angel before he became the devil. Men are wicked!

Rita Koko Mansion is now a married woman

Her real name is Rita Isoken Igbinedion and she became fairly known after appearing on D'banj's Koko Mansion reality show. Rita was famous for speaking wrong English in the show. She was later to star in her own reality show - Educating Rita, which was cancelled.

She is now a married woman. Happy married life to her!

Gunman kills lover, 7 family members in Lagos

It was a bloody weekend at Igando area of Lagos State, when a suspected kidnapper said to be operating in Delta State, attacked the Lagos home of his girlfriend, killing her and seven others.

Vanguard gathered that the alleged kidnapper, identified simply as Henry, who is currently on the run, stormed the home of his girlfriend known as Sandra, around 10 p.m on Saturday, with an Ak-47 rifle and opened fire on all the occupants of the apartment, leaving Sandra, her elder sister, with two of her elder sister’s children dead.

Sandra’s twin sister and one of her elder sister’s daughter, however, survived.

Ex Eagles star Okey Isima dies at 56

Former Rangers International FC of Enugu and Green Eagles of Nigeria defender, Okey Isima, is dead. The ex footballer turned engineer died in Abuja yesterday Monday February 18th after a brief illness. He was 56.

Okey Isima was a member of the Eagles team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations in Lagos and also played at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

Okey was based in Atlanta Georgia for many years before relocating to Nigeria a few years ago 'to contribute his quota in bringing back the lost glory of Nigerian football'.

He is survived by his wife and four children.

Oscar Pistorius may have killed his girlfriend in a fit of rage

He claimed he mistook his girlfriend for a burglar when he shot her, but South African police has dismissed the claim. They believe the blade runner killed his model girlfriend, 29 year old Reeva Steenkamp, in a fit of rage possibly caused by performance-boosting steroids.

First steroids were found in his home. Then Reeva was found in her night wear, which means she didn't just enter his home at the time he shot her at 3am Thursday morning. The police found a bloody cricket bat in the bedroom. Reeva's skull had been 'crushed' in the attack according to police. They also found a smashed bathroom door. Plus neighbours claimed they heard argument coming from his home earlier in the evening.

The police believe that Oscar first shot Reeva in the bedroom, hit her in the hip. She ran and hid herself in the toilet, he followed her and shot her three more times.

Police investigating the killing are focusing on Reeva's iPad, they suspect she received an early-hours message that may have sparked a row.

A South African news website today published a colour graphic of what they believe happened in Oscar's home (above). He will appear in court tomorrow and faces life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder as alleged by the state prosecutors. Meanwhile Nike has dropped him as their brand ambassador

You know, he hasn’t been lucky in that department. During my first visit to Nigeria, I met his wonderful family and it was clear he was coming from a very strict Christian background. His family was a very spiritual one with high sense of morality and values, there was no way some of that wouldn’t have robbed off on Charles. I just fell in love with him and his close nit family. Since then, they have been ever so kind and loving to me. I just thank God.

I told you all she was getting married on Valentine's Day...and she did. So happy for Nse. She married Clifford Sule at a registry wedding that held on Thursday February 14th. The couple then held a wedding celebratory dinner the next day, February 15th at Sky Lounge at Eko Hotel. Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Dakore Egbuson and Thelma Ojiji celebrated with their friend.

Clifford Sule is a senior lecturer at a UK University and Nse will be relocating to the UK to be with her husband. Their white wedding will hold soon. See photos from the dinner after the cut...

Explosion under the Festac Link Bridge kills one

There was an explosion this morning under the Festac Link Bridge that killed a middle aged businessman, Oladele Pius. He was unfortunately passing under the bridge at the exact moment the explosion occurred. His body parts flew in different directions and police had to use shovel to scoop pieces of his body parts scattered around the scene into a bag. Sad! Mr Pius was the head of the sand dredgers association in the area.

The police said it wasn't a bomb as earlier speculated, that what the bomb disposal unit found at the scene was battery put in a torchlight. They promised to investigate what really happened and find the people behind it. There are those who believe that Oladele Pius was targeted. The man you see above was injured by the explosion. Finally! Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie a few hours ago announced her pregnancy. The 37 year old singer married hunky actor Josh Duhamel in 2009 after five years of dating and has been trying to get pregnant for a while.

"Yes, Fergie is pregnant! We are pleased to confirm the news.” her rep confirmed. Congrats to them.

KWAM1 names 20th child Whitney Marshal

I'm kidding about the 20th child o...though I read in one of the soft sell mags last week that the new born baby from Titi Masha is his 25th child. His oldest child is 36 and the youngest just about two weeks old.

The new parents christened their daughter recently. They named her Whitney Fatiah Omolara Abike Ojuolape Marshall. The christening held at the Ijebu Ode country home of the Fuji king.

Darey's show last night was incredible. The best show I've seen in Nigeria...hands down. I wouldn't know how to describe it even if I tried. But here's something I can tell you for sure. The success of the show had nothing to do with Kim Kardashian. It was all Darey, his wife and Soul Music. Kim K was there for like two seconds and took the next flight back home. She appeared at the beginning of the show, said a few words and vamoosed. Some people who paid to see her didn't get the chance.

She did the red carpet for several minutes, joined us at the pre-dinner event for like 10/15 minutes, did the photo-up with guests for a few minutes, then appeared on stage at the beginning of the show for like 20 seconds. That was it! Hope they didn't pay her more than N2, 000...lol. I was so annoyed.

Gunmen Kidnap Seven Foreign Employees of Setraco in Bauchi

Seven foreign workers of giant construction company, Setraco, were kidnapped last night by gunmen in Bauchi. The attackers went to the Lebanese-owned construction site of Setraco in Jama'are town, where they killed a security guard and kidnapped the foreign workers

Adamu Aliyu, the chairman of the local government area identified those kidnapped as one British citizen, one Greek, one Italian and four Lebanese.

Bauchi State Police Chief Mohammed Ladan told AFP that the unknown gunmen first attacked a local prison, burning two police trucks, before targeting Setraco, which is in the area building a road.

Ghanaian leading man Majid Michel will be joining the star-studded Tinsel cast from Tuesday February 19. He will be playing himself in the dramatic soapie that is broadcast every day (Monday to Friday) at 7:30 PM on AfricaMagic Entertainment.

Asked why he took on a Tinsel guest role, Majid’s answer is both emotional and practical.

“A long time ago, I realized that my acting is not only about myself, it’s an extension of many things that I hope for in our industry. So I made up my mind to extend myself to film projects that improve our movie making prospects within the continent. I believe that this can also inspire young actors coming behind me.  Tinsel is a typical reflection of that, after all, its’ one of the most successful soaps out of Nigeria.”
