We are glad to see the issue raised at such a high-profile international event. And we echo the president’s call for peace-loving people to act now. We would only add that this message applies on two levels. First, as we have long argued, ordinary Nigerians must be vigilant. We must look after each other by looking out for suspicious activity and reporting it to the authorities. But we must also remember that it is national unity that will finally defeat terrorism, so we must avoid division at all costs, and always remember to put Nigeria first.
The second level on which President Buhari’s message applies is on the international stage. The world must not remain idle in the face of the terrorist threat. And nor must it restrict its response to rhetoric and tokenism. Air strikes on Islamic State in Syria in response to the killings in Paris are all very well. But are they part of a joined up strategy both to defeat Islamic State and to stamp out its affiliates worldwide, not least Boko Haram?
We now know that Boko Haram killed more people in 2014 than the group towards which it has pledged allegiance, Islamic State. Any global counter-terrorism strategy that does not include taking on Boko Haram cannot be taken seriously as a strategy, and must be suspected of putting the appearance of action ahead of any meaningful attempt to act effectively.
NajatRochdi, the UN’s Resident Coordinator in Cameroon has warned that we only have limited time to act decisively against Boko Haram. And she made the very important point that it is in the interests not just of West Africans, but the whole world to do so, not least European nations, whose current refugee crisis is a direct result of Islamist terror in the Middle East and Africa.Rochdi said, ‘Investing in today and reversing the trend is investing in a better security and stability of Europe tomorrow. And tomorrow is really tomorrow, not 2030. It’s doable. But it’s really a very small window of opportunity. If you ask me the same question next year, the answer will be no.’
In raising the issue of investment, Rochdi reminds us of the broader context behind the terrorist menace. It will not enough to defeat Boko Haram militarily unless we also do something about the socio-economic conditions in which they have been able to recruit.
Again, this is well known. At the 25th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Johannesburg in June, President Buharispoke of, ‘The destructive effects of the inhuman and criminal campaigns of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and neighbouring countries; the Al-Shabab attacks in East Africa, and the activities of the Al-Qaida in the Maghreb’. But he also added, ‘some of the greater challenges to our peoples within this Union still lie in the political, economic, as well as peace and security spheres. Our continent is currently bedevilled by the twin evils of terrorism and insecurity; poverty, youth unemployment, and underdevelopment.’
So let the peace-loving people of the world take heed. Defeating terrorism must mean taking on Boko Haram as well as Islamic State. And Boko Haram will only be defeated if Nigeria and our neighbours can be put back on the path to peaceful development, so that we can finally meet the potential of our great nation. Please lend a hand as we take up this great challenge, and #StandUpForNigeria!

Lol begging for help???
~D great anonymous!
The United States, the EU, they are the owners of Terrorism. Terrorists are the underground soldiers of the NEW WORLD ORDER that was planned to sow chaos and put the world at the control of NATO. The Arabs are fools. And people who follow them in the name of Sharia and Jihad do not know they are being used. Look at what they have done to Syria. It was all about removing Al Assad so that a major Gas Pipeline from Qatar and Saudi Arabia can go through Syria to Turkey and Western Europe thereby break Russia's gas market. It all back fired. In the case of Nigeria the Boko Haram was to destabilize Nigeria in the north while the Niger Delta Militants steal our crude oil for export at give away price. Exactly what Turkey is doing now with stealing and export of crude oil by ISIS for export to Japan who is a NATO ally. Terrorism is a racket and the victim is Islam. Their religion of violence against everyone is the evil vehicle on which western criminality is thriving. Buhari needs to understand the politics and the racket behind terrorism. There are external agents within who are still fomenting trouble. The attack on Shiites in Zaria and the rise of Biafra is part of the game. The movie by Uxodinma Iweala is to reignite the spirit of war in the Igbo community. The Niger Deltans will be stupid to support Biafra because in the end their oil will be taken for free by the agents of destabilization. Nigerians be wise. All patriotic Muslims must rise against Boko Haram. Nigerians must unite behind Buhari and set aside past sentiments. We must look out for those saboteurs with the Military who are agents of destabilization. The recent attack against the Chief of Army staff was staged to put the Shiites at war against the FG. Ultimately you would see Sunni Muslims attacking Shiites in Nigeria even though we have never had such a confrontation. Nigeria would turn into Syria. On another front the troops from Benin Republic MUST NOT join the fight. Otherwise western Nigeria will be attacked by terrorists from Benin Republic which so far has had no terrorists. Imagine what would happen in Lagos. Nigeria would be in chaos from north, east and west plus the Niger Delta. Buhari must think and act as a military tactician knowing the plan of the global enemies. People like Okonjo Iweala were awarded positions at the World Bank as part of the strategy to come back and destabilize Nigeria. Her first act to sabotage Jonathan was to remove fuel subsidy on January 1, 2011. A very wrong timing. She presided over the devaluation of the Naira as part of the game plan.If this does not fit with her recommendation to Jonathan to squander the Abacha loot through the NSA, then what does? Wake up people !!! Remember people, that the NSA Dasuki was imposed from exile on Jonathan after the mysterious helicopter death of General Azazi and the Governor of Kaduna State, at that time the hotbed of Boko Haram. Does anyone remember that OBJ visited the inlaws of Muhammed Yusuf and then followed a massacre? OBJ knows his pay masters. Buhari must watch his moves. We must all bury our ethnic differences and know that Nigeria is under attack from abroad nit from within but that saboteurs from within are being used.
Nice one frm them and wonderful!

Anon 11:15, you don't make much sense to me. I'm sure you're a core Muslim northerner and the problem you guys have is your selfishness and incredible thirst for power, then there's this other problem of telling yourselves lies and terribly believing the lies too. Look no further, it's no Americans or perceived elements that's tormenting you or Nigerians. You have ruled this nation for like forever yet, your people are the most impoverished and backward. It says a lot. The north has had an incredibly long period of governance to put this country on a serious launchpad to ultimate growth and development but the leaders that have come from your end have only succeeded in enriching their pockets while making your people and all Nigerians by extension terribly poor so they can scream ranka dede(may you rule forever) on their knees each time you fly pass them. Look inward, both your religion and ideology as a people need serious overhauling if not, you will wake up to see that the south has abandoned you all to yourself to rule yourselves and kill yourselves. Does it not shame you all that most of you can hardly read and write? Even to communicate in pidgin English can be a huge challenge for most northerners. Listen! Although it's true the more developed countries can creep in and capitalise on situations, but u must blame yourselves really for giving the loophole to be used. Down there in the north, I beg you all to wake up from your slumber and tell yourselves the truth for once.
