Late Ooni of Ife’s wives banned from re-marrying...

According to a Palace Chief who spoke anonymously, the wives of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Olubuse II, by tradition cannot re- marry as its forbidden, they can only be inherited by the new Ooni. This order was prescribed by the Ife tradition since the Ooni is not considered dead but to have transited to a higher realm.

“The rule is general and applies to all Ooni that has passed on and not peculiar to the wives of Oba Sijuwade, the immediate past Ooni. There may not be a clearly defined repercussion against the tradition but it is advisable that the order is obeyed at all times and for all generations. The best that can happen to the Oloris left behind by any late Ooni is for them to remain single or be inherited by the reigning Ooni. Whether the wives are young or old does not matter, what matters is that the tradition must be sustained in the overall interest of the society.” the source said

Of course na, that's how it was and will always be. Whenever I see the pictures of Oba Alafin of Oyo and his very young wives I just shoke my head, those ladies really doesn't know what they are in for.

Hahahahahaha...this is so hilarious....the wives faces though.. Funny tradition by the way, I like how they are trying to maintain their tradition...even if it's a tad too absurd but since the owners of the tradition are not complaining...well..it's cool.

The Oni was conjugating with these beautiful dames and now that he is gone they have to be in bondage. I thought Human slavery was a thing of the past in Nigeria!

Women wake up and make sure you never marry an Oni because of the wealth and then when he dies you are in limbo, that way the new Oni will only be saddled with his exiting wives.

This is no news and there's no need to be sensational about it. This applies to all Obas in yoruba land not peculiar to ooni alone. It's a yoruba culture. Besides why would these old women want to marry again. They are probably in their menopause.

What an unbelievable load of rubbish. That in 2015 a woman can not decide what she will do. No one ever saw their god and no god ever said a woman can not remarry, the stupid man was the one in the wrong marrying so many.
