Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the presiding judge, handed down the sentence after the women pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal force and assault, use of abusive language and public nuisance.

He, however, gave them an option of N20,000 fine each for the other two counts charge including the use of abusive language and public nuisance, and declared the terms would run consecutively.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Momoh Ibrahim, had told the court that on June 14, 2014, the convicts were arrested for using insulting language on the person of a police officer, one Cpl. Abraham Omageni of Deidei police station.
Ibrahim said the convicts also slapped Omageni.
The prosecutor told the court that their offences contravened the provisions of the Penal Code.

Are those criminals above the law? Are they? How come they were not prosecuted? How come those cases were swept under the carpet?
The prosecution (persecution) of Binta Mamman and Safiya Aliyu is nothing but double standards. Set them free immediately. Those police got slapped because they most likely deserved to be slapped. Ordinary citizens get stiff jail terms while those thieving plutocrats and oligarchs get away with all sorts.
