Anonymous 11:49pm, get your head out of the clouds or are you being intentionally dense? Nigeria is very poor or don't you ever read the news? we have never had stable electricity for one day, extremely bad roads, no infrastructure whatsoever, clean drinking water, zero; unemployment, alarming; health nko? go to church for your healing.
go to Thailand, you'll find Nigerians there. everybody has an "anywhere but nigeria mentality." all this and more, my dear, is the definition of poverty. the last time we were not poor was "the seventies" with the oil boom. and gowon was sure to declare to the world his cluelessness in handling the windfall gains.

And they say this man listens to the voice of the people? How much to power?

Chinwe relax. Anon 11:49n is completely right!Nigeria is not Poor. You call a country that has 21b naira to but jets, 14 million (or so) to celebrate a party, and billion more dollars for people to chop and remain for the next set to come along and...well, chop poor? Not by any standard. Look around you, you don't need to live on the Island to know Nigeria is not poor. From the ancient cities of Ilorin and Ibadan to the metropolitan states of Lagos and Abuja, it is evident that Nigeria is not Poor. Just very badly managed, ridden with misplaced priorities and corruption. As for finding Nigerians everywhere, in our defense you can find Americans everywhere also, it's all about the money babe.

@ the people saying Nigeria is poor. NIGERIA IS NOT POOR!
its just the government has mismanaged the funds. THEY MONEY IS NOT BEING SPENT WHERE IT SHOULD BE.
they are taking Nigeria's money and doing nonsense with it.
It's not that Nigeria is poor, one of the richest countries in Africa, but we are not blessed with leaders.
the people are poor, but Nigeria as a nation isn't
Sadly, we have the money but NOTHING to show for it.

Alicia, if the people are poor, then the country is poor.

Wise Saga, those things you mentioned are not measures of wealth.

Nigeria and India are both third world countries. compare their GDPs as of 2008, Nigeria= $207.12billion. India=1.16trillion.
We can't afford most of these elephant projects government is undertaking. nigeria is poor - the truth is always bitter.

I still believe its mismanagement of funds. Nigeria could do so much with what she has, but our leaders are greedy.
other countries with far less are FAR ahead.

Dear Chinwe, if you must criticize, please do so constructively rather than accusing someone of being intentionally dense. Nigeria is not a poor country and infact if you visit other African countries, you will understand the true meaning of poverty. It isn't true to say we haven't had stable electricity for even one day- have you ever been to Jos, Plateau State? Jos has its own power company which provides reliable electricity for 24 hours; Jos also has very good health and education systems (infact schools and hospitals there are better than in Abuja). Yes, I agree infrastructure could be better but if you go to DR Congo, their roads are terrible. As for Nigerians being everywhere, you will find people of different nationalities every where- this is not a true definition of poverty; I think Nigerians are hardworking and industrious people who are making things for themselves inspite of the difficulties- in 10 years time, Nigeria will be a completely different country with better leaders.
