Nigeria soldiers on deathrow allegedly being starved of food & water

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, soldiers who were sentenced to death for mutiny last year are allegedly being starved to death. The report below...
Sahara Reporters has learnt of a covert plan to ‘kill’ a group of soldiers who were arrested late last year on charges of mutiny and attempted murder. The soldiers who have been held since September last year managed to reach out to the outside world via text messages, using the opportunity to reveal the conditions they are being held in.
In an initial message, they sent this text to our reporter: “Greetings sir, we are the 12 soldiers sentenced to death \others detained at CIC Apapa, Lagos. We are to inform you that following our denial of access to our families, councils & even access to fund [sic] to feed our families\pay our legal fees, that as you know, we had been concealing our cell phone to help us hear from counsels.
The phone was collected on 6\5\15, in view of this, we have not been fed, We are on hand-cuff & leg chain, we are kept naked [sic] & deprived of even drinking water. As it stands now sir, our lives  are at stake. We, therefore, plead with due respect that you intervene”.  Our reporter then followed up trying to call the number but met with no success.
After a while, one of the accused reached our reporter again, this time in a voice call with a frantic message. “They are trying to kill us. They want to kill us” the voice said. He went on to inform our reporter that the authorities have noticed that they have access to a cell phone and have therefore resorted to using starving techniques as a form of punishment. He said they had not been fed nor given any water for about five days.
Last year the story broke of some 12 soldiers who were reined in by the military authorities for allegedly refusing to confront Boko Haram militants and firing at their commanding officer in the northeastern city of Maiduguri in May. The soldiers were reportedly angry after a convoy was ambushed on a road frequently targeted by Islamist Boko Haram militants and decided to protest to the authorities who they blamed for underequipped and underpaying them.

Even those that were condemned to death under GMB government were well fed and taken care off. Too bad.

Nigeria Soldiers Feel sad for them. Maybe Buhari

Anonymous said...

From what i gathered here, they refused to shoot at boko haram for genuine reasons. They were not well taken care of and they had no good weapons to fight with. So why kill them. Thou shalt not kill. Pls respect the commandments of God

When other news that you prefer to hear is written by them,Sahara reporters are ok.but when you don't like it,they become not credible.
I have heard conversations and trust me,the above is very true.

But then you know military is a no going back. You swore to serve the country and also how dare you fire at the commanders office? To detach yourself as a military personnel is like divorce, the only difference here is you die. It is like that everywhere. You can't leave unless you are expelled. Civilised country will take you through due process but at the end you might end up in prison. You signed to uphold, fight for the country. No turning back because if it were luxury they were giving to the other military men in the field, these ones would have loved to partake from it.

They don't deserve such after serving the country with their lives and maybe got scared when they needed them most.
Investigations should be carried out to verify the authenticity of this report.

Don't say what u don't know. It's possible. If the allegation is true, it's too bad to treat a citizen in such manner even though they have been convicted.

Its time to pardon them. They saw that Boko Haram always had prior knowledge and info on any military tactic or strategy that was planned. They are human beings first. Yes, they signed up. But there are rules of engagement. Geneva convention rules for fighting war on a fair and even level playing field. Things we have heard since then, especially from the USA as to why they withdrew their support only confirms their argument. Enough deaths. Please pardon them. They were prepared to die for Nigerians. But die fairly, with dignity and in fair and even battle. Not slaughtered as cannon fodder for greed, political agenda and evil principalities that rule Nigeria. Enough is enough.

@Anon8:11am, U have failed to see that these men were forced into the circumstance that made them reacted the way they did. That they're soldiers does not make them less human. It was the poignant corruption that pervaded the military's fight against Boko haram that caused all these. Sodiers can react this way anywhere in the world if subject to the sheer injustice these guys were subjected to. So pls don't try any cover up story here.
