Fight erupts in Burundi between soldiers loyal to the president & ones loyal to army general

Heavy fighting over the control of affairs in Burundi is currently ongoing between soldiers loyal to Burundi president Nkurunziza and those loyal to the leader of the coup that overthrew the president yesterday, Godefroid Niyombare.

According to reports, soldiers loyal to President Nkurunziza are in full control of the presidential palace, the national radio and TV stations, the airport and the centre of Bujumbura, Burundi's capital.

Media houses including radio and TV stations have been attacked and beaming signals stopped at the moment. The whereabouts of the President is still unknown as he has since left Tanzania where he went to brief members of the African Union on the crisis in his country regarding his third term bid when the coup was declared.

Meanwhile the African Union Peace & Security Council will convene an emergency meeting this afternoon to consider the situation in Burundi.

The "African Union Peace & Security Council" and the AU ( African Union) are nothing but "Talk Shops". They can never act on any resolution, if they make any.

Third term. Sounds familiar. These African leaders. Sef. Hiss. if it's not third term it's single term 6 years. Well as for the soldiers, I wish them well with their "Coup de theatre"

for how long are we going to keep on killing ourselves in Africa. Fight here and there na wa oooooo, the president should resign and let peace flow in their country or does he need to read some fresh articles before he understands what his people want?

Please d International Press should ask d President to justify his reason for a 3rd tenure. Text Fortune to 33020.

This is gradually becoming a war and its obvious d president is selfish and doesn't care about d masses. He should just step down and let peace reign. 2terms is okay na. Honestly, incidents like this makes me respect GEJ more and more. Unlike greedy Obj.

This is exactly what Jonathan saved Nigeria from.....yet a lot of people consider it not to be a big deal. Classical example of "he who wears the shoes..."

U see the reason why we are shld be thanking God..........GEJ is truly a hero, if u can't accept that fact, then pls die off.........

Greed!!!!!!!! He wants to die in office even when he knows he is wrong. Putting the lives of innocent citizens at risk. This is why people like our president Ebele Jonathan should have his name written in GOLD for the bold decision he took in order to maintain peace in this country.

Unknown said...

Dis man shd jst step down n allow peace 2 reign in dat country. Y biding 4 3rd term wen u v done 2 terms successfully. Africa leaders n der greedy way of life sha
