Two crushed to death as trailer falls on car on Airport road

This sad incident occurred on Monday night May 27th along Airport road in Mafoluku, Lagos. A trailer carrying heavy duty rods lost control and fell on a car with three people inside.

The three occupants of the car, two men and a woman, were staff of Zenith Pension, Victoria Island. The two men, Ovie and Sir Kay, lost their lives, while the lady survived with a deep cut on her head.

Rescuers managed to bring the lady out of the car that night after they heard her shouting she was still alive, but the two dead men were left in the car wreckage until the following morning when their colleagues showed up at the accident scene. Sad! May their souls rest in peace, amen.

Sir kay attends my church at oke-afa isolo.
He wanted to drop ovie and the woman at their house when the accident happened.
He's left behind his wife and his 3 kids.
May his soul rest in peace :(

How saddening! A separate line has just gotta be created for heavy trucks, its just not safe with them plying the same road with smaller vehicles, and most of their drivers are so reckless! May they rest in peace, amen!

Na God be our strength o!
A similar thing almost happened to me and my crews on our way to service an etisalat site in Buguma (Rivers State) this past Saturday along the East-West Road. The steering of the Car i was driving pulled out and the car iimmediately entered the path of an on-coming trailer heading for collision...head-on! It was just God's Mighty Hands that shifted the car again from the trailer's path to the middle of the road as it just missed us by the whiskers. I then managed to apply the breaks to prevent it from crossing the other side of the road. Na so me and 4 other engineers for take die o... Baba God always on point!

Only if we had responsive rescue team in this country, their lives would have been saved. This is a clarion call to govt to please place more premium on human lives and property by availing basic social amenities upon which the public can leverage on. Am sure if you call 911 in the US, rescue operatives will wade in

This is so sad. Who said they were dead as at the time of the accident?! They could have just lost consciousness and needed quick medical attention. Why did our pple wait until the next day?!!! There could have been a chance to save their lives! Its so sad about this country. Really really sad. We just don't value human life to do what it takes to save lives. Rest in peace and my condolences to the families.

May the souls of the deceased rest in peace. But I have to add that it is not just about soul resting in peace every time we read sad and avoidable death news. It is time Nigerian government created a department of public safety that works alongside the ministry of transportation and save the rest of Nigerian road users. It is prety simple, just enforce the existing laws on traffic, drunk driving, road maintenance, vehicle inspection/road worthiness, and innocent lives will be saved. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT ROAD SAFETY HAS FAILLED!... PATHETIC.

From the report, it seems like it was ordinary pole passing by that got d girl out. I'm eager to know how they arrived at the conclusion that the men were dead at that time.

i am saddened by this accident, i know the spot at Mafoluku which in my opinion can be remedied in a day's work yet like everything Nigerian has been left unattended and has resulted in the death of young men with young families.
It is even more distressing that even in death the men were not permitted to rest in peace, but left to lie lifelessly in the crumpled vehicle overnight. Where is the much touted LASAMBS! Shame on the Police, Shame on the government, Shame on us all

Hmmm. May their souls RIP. We were neighbours with sir kay. This news shook my family. What a painful way to die. The fire dept is less than 10mins from that spot. Why didn't someone on the spot think of getting them down immediately. There is an emergency number to call for rescue in Lagos and it works. There shd be a form of sensitisation such that the average pepper seller, vulcanizer or even a 5 year old can easily pick up the phone and call the emergency lines. I've seen this work even in the most remote part of Lagos. Numbers are 112 or 767. Rescue first.

what i don't understand is why in Nigeria, ppl feel a truck has to be on the verge of collapsing before they feel it's capable of carrying heavy duty equipment.
We need to be careful.

Lin-lin, I hope you can help pass this message across cos you are on of the influential people in our society. Lin-lin, VIO and Road safety are not working at all. Na so VIO go come pack for the front of my office, cause traffic untop am na only new cars dem dey ask for road worthiness. If you see some rickety cars that are allowed on the road, one would wonder what road worthiness is issued for. I have seen where a trailer was driving with a flat tyre wey don dey chop enter rim, yet no one stopped the truck, not even LASTMA or the police that are always on the road. I just tire for these death traps allowed to ply the roads and endanger other lives. Lin-lin let's call on Fashola to take all these rickety cars/trucks off the road. One way to start is if such cars break down on the road and are deemed unworthy, the trailers should be impounded immediately. Save lives Fashola and may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace, AMEN!

Fuck the youths living in Nigeria! Y'all are no better than a bunch of walking corpse. Idiotic lot!!! You only how to gossip and wile away your jobless lives on the internet searching for irrelevant gist while the government robs you daily. In an ordinary REPUBLIC like your next door neighbour BENIN, ambulance response time is 15 mins MAX!!! You people are too stupid for comprehension. Those men may have still been alive, but no rescue team came to check. Even the fucking passerby did not check to see if they were probably in coma! Aswear you people are frigging disgusting. Take ur proud Nigerian bullshit to the abyss.

Anonymous said...

My thoughts exactly! This so sad.

Anonymous said...

Please guys let's also be proactive in our little way. We have talked about 911 in the USA and all that but na phone go pick himself call for rescue. I'm sure no one called the rescue team and that's why the corpse was left there. I remember one day, on my way to work, I saw a dead body on the road and it was a case of hit and run - the body was terribly disfigured from the accident and tyres were placed around the body. As soon as I got to the office, I called the emergency crisis team and they immediately notified the police and other organization that are responsible. What surprised me is that I was called and given feedback on the action taken. The corpse might have been there overnight, many cars drove past it and not until around 7:30am when I called was the corpse taken away. So, probably nobody knew about the accident except the residents of that neighbourhood and rescue will not come except we call for it. Let's be proactive! Change begins with YOU! No be everything we go cross leg dey look for who to blame and dey insult government. Na ourselves we dey insult oh cos na we be government! Please here is the number to call in case of emergency: 080022556362. Trust me when I say your call will be answered promptly. Please pass it on, you could save a life tomorrow. Lin-lin, I trust you.

Such a shame. There is no value placed on human lives in this country. What does FRSC do? How does our government regulate vehicles that should and shouldn't be on our roads? What happened to MOT? When do we begin to see solutions to issues in this country? These heavy trucks should be banned from being on the roads before 12midnight when most cars aren't. How about the state of our roads? I can't even begin to comment on emergency response and our healthcare system...what a shame!

Linda, I know you are used to criticism as it comes with the territory and all that but for the sake of having some moral constraints in your need to break news fast, you should sometimes think about the implication of what you do before you proceed. How on earth can you show the corpse of this man in full view. That is sooooo WRONG, callous and unprofessional of you.
Think of what the family of the deceased thinks of you and if that doesn't mean a thing to you then that says a HELL of a whole lot.
