Graphic photos: Generator fume kills 3 friends in their sleep in Ogun

Culled from PM News
Three friends identified as Saka Adeosun, 15, Kadri Akanbi, 20 and Wale Kola Ola, 18, have died in their sleep after inhaling generator fume.
The incident took place at 109/111, Alakuko Road, Akera area of Agbado, a suburb of Ogun State. The three friends were apprentices in a welder and vulcaniser’s shop partitioned with plywood.
They were sleeping in one of the shops and left the generator working on the other side when they died in their sleep after inhaling the fume. The incident, was reported at Ayila Police Station.

Mr. Shoremi Moses, the landlord of the shops where the incident happened, reported to the police that the three youths had died in their sleep.

When the policemen arrived the scene of the incident, they discovered that the victims were foaming from their mouth, ear and nose, an indication that they were choked to death by the generator fume.
Meanwhile, the families of the deceased have told the police that there was no need for post mortem to be carried out since nobody was responsible for their death. The bodies were subsequently released to them and they have been buried.

When P.M.NEWS visited the police station, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Supol Daniel Okere, was said to have gone to the Area Command.

But a source at the station confirmed that since the families of the deceased wanted them buried without any form of test conducted on them, the corpses have been released to them for burial.
“The families said they don’t want any test to be conducted on them, so we have released the corpses to them for burial,” a police source said.

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene of the incident Monday morning, some youths were seen mourning and discussing the circumstances that led to the death of Saka, Kadri and Wale.
An elderly man, who declined to reveal his identity, confirmed that the three friends have been buried.

Carbon monoxide poisoning. Odourless, colourless, lethal gas.

Requeiescat In Pace.

This wouldn't have happened if a country of our potential was able to provide the masses with un-interrupted power supply.

How sad...Carbon dioxide in the fumes of a generator is such a silent killer, it just shuts down your respiratory system. This just goes out as a warning, operate generators in a well ventilated environment.

Unknown said...

May their souls rest in peace. Hmmm.

Unknown said...

There should be an awareness campaign. It is even written on the generator,PLEASE DO NOT PUT THIS IN A ROOM AS IT CONTAINS CARBON MONOXIDE POISON.(something like that).

Anonymous said...

People should know that carbon monoxide is a silent killer. It can creep up on you through the tiniest of cracks and crevices.

This a sad example of what people go through in a nation where the government has abdicated its responsibilities. These boys would have had nothing to do with power generation, if the authority had lived up to its responsibilities. So sad!

RIP to the dead
same thing nearly killed my little brother in my house, but by the mercy of God,i went to check on him in his room to pass a message and found him foaming on his bed and completely lifeline and had to pour a full bucket of water on him to revive him and rushing him to the hospital, Thank God he is alive today and i avoid Generator at night like hell, no matter the heat

Anonymous said...

OMG RIP little once.

Anonymous said...

Why the hurry to bury? In a case like this, the police ought to eliminate all other possibilities as the real cause of death before coming to the conclusion that there was no criminality involved

Anonymous said...

Only if PHCN made life better, these generators would not be needed in the first place. God help us all.

Anonymous said...

See wetin Nepa don cause now eh, dat idiot Jonathan wey dey go lie for CNN say light don improve for naija, if light dey ,shey this boys for die like these?. Chai! Na God go punish that dat PHCN.

Anonymous said...

Exactly! This type of death could be avoided if Nigerian leaders were not too busy spending the money that doesn't belongs to them! R.i.p young boys :'(

Anonymous said...

Okachamara...na carbonmonoxide ok.carbondioxide is given off by animals as a by product of respiration.

Anonymous said...

Very unfortunate and it keeps recurring. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. I commiserate with the families affected. Let us imagine that a Nigerian leader comes up and bans the importation and use of electric generators. It is a multi-billion naira industry and many are feeding fat on it! There will be great resistance but we will be forced to put our public electricity supply to use.

Also, let us embrace inverter technology. In 9 months, you'd recover the money saved from running generators. RIP young hussling brothers

So sad; their death is preventable but see what bad governance has done.
I'm tired of reading generator fumes induced death.

I'm using this medium to inform those who travel on long distances in AC pumping vehicles. Please, I beg you don't make the mistake of sleeping while the AC is on; this is fatal!

The AC has Carbon dioxide and when you sleep, it gets to your system and if you don't wake up on time, it could cause death.

So please, if you want to sleep, endeavour to switch off the AC, wind down your car windows and receive fresh breeze into your life.

Congratulations to our govt. They have succeeded in killing three more people with their inefficiency.
if only we had constant power supply, there wud be no need 2 even get a Gen in the first place.
pls join me in congratulating our govt as they steadily achieve their aim of killing nigerians one after the other...

@Anonymous 3:06; Upgrade your knowledge base pls, yes, Carbon dioxide is given off as a by product by animals during respiration BUT haven't you ever heard of other sources of its emission like (The combustion of fossil fuels, such as gasoline and diesel, which is the second largest source of CO2 emissions)

Carbon Monoxide kills every where.A family died here in the UK only last week while on a boat trip from CO poisoning.
A simple way to prevent this from happening is to install a Carbon Monoxide sensor in your house. It sets off an alarm once the sensor detects higher than normal levels.
Sad story.Very sad.

this sad event would have been averted with power supply from PHCN..what a country...such a tragedy

Nigerian Govt.....think of the masses and provide the basic amenities for an average livelihood...constant power supply, good roads, good public education system ,etc.....biko oooooo.
i must confess its really tough to live in Nigeria as an average citizen.May God have mercy on the country.
