Man U fan kills 4 in Nigeria - Jaguda

A Manchester United fan in Nigeria killed four people when he drove his minibus into a crowd of Barcelona supporters after his team lost the Champions League final, police said on Thursday.
The crowd in the town of Ogbo were celebrating Barcelona’s victory after Wednesday night’s match when the bus drove into them. A police spokeswoman said 10 people were injured and the driver was arrested.
“The driver had passed the crowd then made a U-turn and ran into them,” she said.
Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in what was hailed as a “dream final” between two of Europe’s best clubs. Both teams have large fan bases in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation.

Who has the rights to the pictures? + Genevieve Magazine Pink Ball pictures

If you take yourself to a studio, and PAY a photographer to take pictures of you; who has the rights to the pictures? The photographer who took it or the person whose image was taken?

In all my years of modeling, I never had any photographer tell me I can't use my own pictures without their consent. A lot of models tell me that some photographers do that to them and I sincerely used to think they were joking...well it jokingly happened to me recently.

I took some pictures recently and the photographer tells me I can not use MY photographs that I PAID for without his consent. He calls it his intellectual property.

I'm looking at him like you have got to be kidding me...I AM your intellectual property? Somebody get me out of here...;)

I preach RIGHT OR KIND and I believe so much in it, but this time I wanted to Kindly slap his face...;) but instead I said 'How about I use my pictures for whatever I want to use it for...and you sue me?"

He eventually consented and now I have full RIGHTS to my OWN images. Isn't he so kind? lol

But seriously, a lot of models are faced with this problem, and when they come to me, I really don't know how to react to it. I sincerely don't think the photographers have any rights to the pictures but I might be wrong, so I really want to know. Do they? Especially when you paid them for it?

Jim Iyke prepares for the alter

Saw this story and thought you guys might like to read too...
Enjoy...

Jim Iyke prepares for the altar
*In love with a Jamaican actress,
*His grouse with Nigerian women
Written by Ekerete Udoh

Story thanks to Seun Oloketuyi

He has been variously described as Nollywood’s playboy -a serial heartbreaker, one whose motto vis-a-vis relationships with women, appears to be “use them and leave them.” Tabloid stories about his sexual escapades are in volumes, leaving many to wonder what he is looking for in a woman or if he will ever find that unique woman who will melt his heart and make him entertain the thoughts of walking down the aisle.

During a recent encounter with Jim, in New York, the issue of his play-boy image and stories of his sexual liaisons were exhaustively probed. As reported before, he vehemently denied being a playboy, however, admitting that “a million women may pass through your life, but only one will stick and strike that chord in you.” It appears that that one woman may have finally materialized, and struck a strong chord in Jim Iyke’s life.

There have been some rumors and published speculations that the handsome actor may have finally found a woman of his dreams - a fact that he has neither denied nor confirmed, until now. Jim Iyke was asked explicitly if he had finally found the elusive dream woman, and if so, what qualities stood her out of the numerous others that competed for his heart, love and affection?

Smiling infectiously, Jim volunteered, “I am going to tell you everything you need to know. As a matter of fact, I am going to use this opportunity to finally break my silence over this issue. As you rightly pointed out, a lot has been written about my new found love, most of them largely speculative in nature.

“Yes, it is true. I have found the woman of my dreams, and we are in love in totality. She is the embodiment of all that I have been looking for: tall, pretty, exotic and supremely intelligent. I was looking for a woman who would complement and reinforce my intellectually curious mind -someone who would add and not subtract, and I’m happy to admit that I have finally found her. Her name is Phil, and I would leave it at that.”

How They Met

“I met Phil sometime last year in the United States. She’s of Caribbean ancestry - more specifically Jamaican. We had a movie shot in Baltimore and Phil was invited by her then friend, Ruth Okoro, to the set, and we had an instant connection. Initially, I thought I was just going to have a good time with her, and keep it moving.

But her beauty, intellect, deeply ingrained values and an abiding capacity to understand and deconstruct me struck me. No other woman I had met ever took time to learn who I was, and what elements and values define my entire being.

"Phil’s love for me was not based on my fame, rather she cared much about Jim Iyke, as an individual and not Jim Iyke as a star-actor and Nollywood superstar.I have always believed in the partnership of body, soul and the mind. Oftentimes, the women that crossed my path in the past were more interested in the partnership of the body. But Phil possesses both the intellectual ability and the traditional values that were in short supply with my recent past relationships.”

In the past few months, the tabloid newspapers had regaled their readers with the case of betrayal on the part of Jim’s new found love. According to reports, “ Phil, supplanted and betrayed her close friend,- Ruth Okoro, who was said to be seeing Jim Iyke at the time she introduced her then best friend, Phil to the Nollywood Sexiest Actor.”

As a result of this betrayal, the two erstwhile friends are mortal enemies today. Asked if he ever had an affair with Ruth, Jim replied in the negative. “No. Ruth is not my kind of woman, and the notion that I was seeing her is totally preposterous. How could I be seeing Ruth, when she was even married to my boy, Philips Ehigiwina?

It is true that Ruth introduced me to Phil. I didn’t need to deny that. I saw a winner in Phil and I went for her. I have no regrets. What Ruth wanted from me, unfortunately, I couldn’t give it to her because of the fact that I have some morals in me. All the negative things she has said about Phil never bothered me because I know who she is, and I am comfortable with who she is.”

Marital Plans

“Yes, we have discussed it. But we are taking it one at a time. I am actually at a point where starting a family is becoming an attractive proposition, and I am seriously exploring it. Phil and I have been to Nigeria. She has met with my parents and family members and they all love and adore her. Her values and background mirrors ours and it’s a great feeling. I would say that it appears as if we have the same DNA.”

Why a Jamaican Woman?

“I have nothing against the Nigerian woman. As a matter of fact, I think some of the most beautiful women are in Nigeria, and indeed Africa in general. But I have made my choice, and my choice is a Jamaican woman, someone who has come to understand and appreciate me for who I am.

I do have my grouse with the Nigerian woman, though. Our women often go by the dictates and symbol of status, parental influence or pedigree as opposed to substance. I struggle hard to make them understand who I am, but I am always unsuccessful. I am tired of that struggle. I have come to realize that it is better to deal with a foreign woman.

With our women, you struggle to define yourself. Foreign women are willing to take you for who you are, as opposed to what you are, which our women tend to emphasize. If I am in a relationship with a Nigerian, and I am seen outside chatting up another girl - innocently, with no strings attached, I will have a lot of explanation to make to gain back her trust - even though I have nothing romantic to do with that woman.

It’s always a struggle to prove that you are not the person the society has defined you to be, and I am really tired of that struggle.”

What do you guys think of Jim's views about Nigerian women?

Have a great week ahead people!
Mwah!

Dare to be different

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT is that forum where young people from different disciplines within our society come to hear from the excelled and established of our time, birthing in them a greater vision for life and inspiring them to greater heights as they scale the ladder of success.

The maiden edition of this program was held in June 2007 with about 7000 youths in attendance. Every aspect of the program was oversubscribed and it catalyzed a lot of things for the youth.

Apart from the Media mileage for sponsors and the open confessions of youths who have being awakened to their innate capacities for the first time, it emphasized the missing link in government attempts to communicate with or change the mindsets of our youth.

Responses from the past programs keep streaming in till date and in 2009, we believe for an even greater package. We believe in the abundance of potential especially amongst Nigerian youths and for many, this forum would be the necessary thrust for them to proceed to channel their energies in positive directions.

In 2009, this Event will parade top echelon Executives in the Nation’s Corporate Terrain such as Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, Chief Michael Adeojo, Dr. Erastus Akingbola, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun, Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, Chief Cosmas Maduka, Mr. Ben Bruce, Dr. John Momoh, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, Mr. Bola Akingbade, Mr. Foluso Phillips, Mr. Fela Durotoye, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Dr. Mrs. Doyin Abiola, Doyin Abiola, Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, Mrs. Iquo Ukoh, Mr. Toyin Subair, Tara Fela-Durotoye to mention just a few.

In the Public Sector, we will play host to Prof. Dora Akunyili, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, Dr. Balarabe Musa, Hon. Farouk Lawan, Hon. Abike Dabiri, Mrs. Eugenia Abu amongst others.

Entertainment and Sports Whiz kids such as Alibaba and Austin J.J. Okocha will also be present as Guest Speakers.

Zain sacks staffers -Uche Olehi (Encomium mag)

Zain Nigeria, one of Nigeria's telecommunications companies, has fired 300 f it's staff. The company is also cutting some 450 other jobs via outsourcing.

Corporate Nigeria to Spend $100M Annually on Music-related Endorsements + HHWA's Nominees Party Pictures

Nigeria's hip-hop stars reveal growing consumer culture By Matthew Green

It’s Saturday night at the Jade Palace in Lagos and Killz, one of Nigeria’s hottest hip-hop artists, steps out of a swirl of dry ice and disco lights to launch into his new song, “Shoobeedoo”.

Shaven-headed, wearing a bespoke French-cut suit with cashmere lapels and exuding attitude, the aspiring impresario could be forgiven for thinking that he is already living the lifestyle of a US rap star.

At the bar, men favour the classic American gangsta-rapper look: oversized designer sunglasses worn indoors, at night. Ice buckets rattling with the bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne beloved of the Lagos elite ensure the gig retains at least a dash of Nigerian flavour. Held to launch his new album, Life & Times of Killz: Volume I, the party was a snapshot of a trend sweeping sub-Saharan Africa: a growing hunger for a local version of the hip-hop and R&B music that defines youth culture in the west.

Nowhere is this phenomenon more apparent than in the continent’s most populous nation, where the star power of artists such as D’Banj, 2Face and P-Square has grown in parallel with the gradual re-emergence of Nigeria’s once vibrant middle-class.

This nucleus of young professionals is already seen as a lucrative market for products from financial services to consumer goods and telecoms. The craze for home-grown hip-hop suggests that investors may do well to brand their products in a way that recognises the strength of the new pop culture in “Naija” – youth slang for Nigeria.

“There’s been a reawakening of Nigerian identity,” says Obi Asika, chairman of Storm 360, a media content provider that promotes Killz. “Any investor who wants to come into Nigeria must understand that, if they want to sell products and communicate with Nigerians.”

A collapse in prices for Nigeria’s oil following the global downturn and a prolonged bear market on the country’s stock exchange, coupled with the slow pace of economic reform under Umaru Yar’Adua, the president, suggests that the new cadre of better-off Lagosians may face some tough times.

In a country where most people live in poverty, gains made by a few can pale in contrast to the deprivation suffered by the many.

In the long run, however, anecdotal evidence suggests that more Nigerians will start to embrace the kind of globalised consumer culture dominant in the US and Europe. As Killz puts it in “Shoobeedoo”: “I know they say the best things in life are free. But money will take you places I know you wanna see.”

Fast-food outlets have proliferated here. UAC Nigeria, a food, property and logistics conglomerate, says the number of its counters, including the Chicken Inn franchise, has risen to about 230 from 150 in 2004. Promasidor, the food group, says the proportion of its sales made up of the larger tins of powdered milk favoured by better-off families has noticeably increased.

The small middle-class is also driving growing demand for Nigerian media content. HiTV, a Nigerian satellite television company, has made rapid inroads in a market dominated by South Africa’s DSTV, partly with the help of its “Nigezie” Nigerian music channel. Screen Digest says a period of rapid growth has seen the number of Nigerian households taking paid-for television content rise to 430,000 by late 2008.

Some of Nigeria’s biggest companies are discovering that the new hip-hop culture is a particularly effective channel for targeting the fast-growing telecoms and beverages sectors. In a country where some 45 per cent of the population is under 15 years old, today’s teenagers will be tomorrow’s shoppers. Mr Asika puts the potential annual spend by corporate Nigeria on music-related endorsements, events and television shows at up to $100m (€73m, £66m).

Perhaps the most notable example is a deal signed by D’Banj, one of Nigeria’s best-known music stars, to promote Globacom, a mobile phone operator keen to stress its Nigerian roots in contrast to its main rival, South Africa’s MTN.

The appeal of D’Banj and other artists lies partly in their skill at combining the sound of a rap scene that originated in New York and Los Angeles with language that resonates in Lagos. “Let me be your semovita,” Killz implores a woman in “Shoobeedoo”, comparing himself to the Nigerian staple of coarse wheat flour and corn.

The irony is that for all the Nigerian feel, many of the artists regard their homeland as a springboard to fame in the US. Killz – whose real name is Ikechukwu Onunaku – cruises the city in a black Range Rover with KILLZ inscribed on the number plate. “If you’re not big in the United States, you’re not big,” he says, between bumping over potholes. “What I am doing is championing Nigeria.”

They learned...

Hey people, hope y'all had a great weekend? Mine was great just 'cos of a discussion I had with my younger sisters.

You see I started modeling at 17, immediately I left secondary school, so I got kind of exposed at a very early age. One of the things that I got exposed to was propositions from men. You know men who will offer you this and that just to sleep with you or keep you as a mistress. Even at 17 I knew that was not the life for me, so I never lived it. Not even in the worst of times. I used to believe that once you sleep with a man for money, you've lost your dignity as a woman...now I am a bit more flexible. I don't condone it but I understand it. And I don't judge girls who live that kind of lifestyle like I used to judge them. Now I believe in live and let live.

So this weekend, I heard my younger sis, Laura, talking heatedly with someone on the phone. What caught my attention was when she said 'If you like make it a billion Naira, you're wasting your time. I've told you to stop calling me". So curiously I asked her what was going on, she wasn't going to tell me at first but I persisted 'til she told me the whole story.

If you remember some weeks back I introduced my younger sister to you all. I told you guys she'd just started her own dance school/group and is also a fitness instructor. (She has a diploma in Human Kinetics and Health Education). So a few days after I put her pix and details on my blog, one male reader of this blog called her.

You see my sis does home service ONLY for women who can’t or won’t come to the gym to train...and she charges 50grand to go to their homes three times a week for three months, plus you pay another 4grand to register with her. She works real hard for her money!!!

So this guy wanted to know Laura's fitness payment structure which she told him but explained that she doesn't render home services to men (I'm sure y'all know that's dangerous). Then the guy offered to give her 54grand to spend one night with her. He said something like...you don't have to suffer for three months, I'll pay you all that money for just one night. Laura politely declined. A few days later he doubled the offer to 104grand...Laura still said thanks but no thanks...and he kept bugging her until this past weekend when he tripled the money to 154grand...she was telling him off when I heard the conversation.

When she told me about this guy and how much he'd been bugging her I felt responsible 'cos I was the one who put her out there...her picture, her number, you know. I also felt like she should have come to me with what was going on, when I asked her why she didn't, my younger sister looked at me and said "Because I can handle it. I've seen the way you've handled these men over the years...let's just say I learned from the best."

I can't begin to explain to you all how that made me feel; hearing that from my younger sister. I don't think I've had a prouder moment in a long time. I mean, it's one thing to live a lifestyle, it's another thing for people to emulate you. Especially people who mean a lot to you.

My sisters and I gathered and shared our experiences, how we shouted at the men, made fun of them and their offers, how we basically dealt with their propositions. In everything my younger ones said, one thing was unanimous...they all learned from their big sister, who started at 17, to turn down offers upon offers.

I see the way these girls are negotiated and treated by men, and I can only be grateful that my sisters aren’t in that market. No one of you out there would want any girl you know or care about to live that life ‘cos it’s the most degrading thing ever. You should see what these girls are subjected to. I’ve seen and heard a lot that I can’t disclose here; my only happiness is that I set an example many years ago that my younger sisters felt was worthy of emulation.

Having said that, here's a piece of advice to all 'those' young girls out there

I'm not a saint, my sisters aren't, nobody is...God knows we all have our shortcomings, but when it comes to the issue of our bodies, we should know where to draw the line. Being broke is not a crime; neither is living within our means. We should learn to carry ourselves with pride and always remember that money and all the fine things of life isn't everything. When we leave this world, none of us will leave with the things we've acquired. The only thing that remains after we are gone is our legacy...what do you want yours to be? Think seriously about that when next a man puts a price on God's temple...your body.

You see, if you work hard, you can even be as rich as these men + you walk around with your head held up high, knowing you never sold yourself cheap. Believe me, you don't need their money, you can make yours if you discover your talent, full potential and work very hard.

There's dignity in labour...even for a woman

Is Ola Ray Nigerian? + Rihanna before and After

Thriller was the video that changed pop music forever... and turned Michael Jackson into the biggest star in the world. Made by top Hollywood director, John Landis and lasting 14 minutes, it was the most expensive pop promo of its era with the unprecedented budget of £400,000. It helped Michael's Thriller album to become the biggest seller of all time with profits of £700million.

The video also featured a certain model called Ola Ray

Ola was a 22-year-old glamour model trying to break into acting in 1982 when she beat hundreds of other hopefuls to the part of Michael Jackson's crush in the mini-horror movie

Yesterday, May 6, 2009, it was reported that Ray sued Jackson in a dispute over royalties for the Thriller video.

Yeah well that's not the reason for this post. Someone told me today that Ola Ray is Nigerian. I've checked a lot of articles written on her and there's no mention of her being Nigerian...
But this friends swears he knows what he's talking about.
ngbo my people, is Ola Ray Nigerian?

Lagbaja's new albums hit the streets!

All the details you’ve been waiting to know

The much-anticipated twin albums from Africano musician Lagbaja are now ready for release.

Titled ‘Paradise’ and ‘Sharp Sharp’, the albums will be released into the Nigerian market on Monday M
ay 4, 2009.

As is characteristic of Lagbaja, all tracks on both albums have various slants and characters, but the common denominator remains the traditional African drums. Lagbaja’s saxophones also feature prominently on the new recordings; and it’s the first time since ‘Cest Un African Thing’ (1996) that the saxophone is taking such prominence on Lagbaja’s studio recordings.

Listeners will hear Lagbaja doing remarkable sax solos on ‘Paradise’ and ‘Sharp Sharp’ – songs like ‘Bling Bling Panda’ and Sobolation have the saxophone blazing while tracks like ‘paradise’ and ‘sharp sharp’ actually have the saxophone in the intro section of the songs dueting with the lead vocals.

The traditional African drums- the mainframe of the Africano genre- is also conspicuously present throughout the entire album. And, interestingly, most of the songs were recorded live. Lagbaja is an advocate of Live music; believing musicians should play their instruments as opposed to the recent common practice of completely ceding music production to the computer.

The albums were recorded in Lagos at Motherlan’ Studios; and in the USA at Bennett Studios. All the songs were mixed in different US studios, including Studio Crash (Pennsylvania), Bennet Studios (NJ) and Studio 4 (Pennsylvania).

Apart from mixing several of the songs on the album, Grammy award-winning engineer Dave Kowalski also recorded the Salsa version of Lagbaja’s composition ‘Deja A Mi Gente Quedarse’ (Let my people stay) at Bennet Studios. The cut features some of the top Latin music players of the New York scene.

Other tracks on the albums are:

PARADISE: Sobolation, paradise, lulu fun won, Deja A Mi Gente Querdase (Spanish), Iro Whe, Iyawo tororo, Jenke and Kekekeke

SHARP SHARP: Bling Bling Panda, Sharp sharp, let my people stay, Eko mega city, Liar Liar, different cloth different season, dress with sense

The albums will be available in traffic and all retail outlets in Nigeria, as well as on www.lagbaja.com from Monday May 4.

Meanwhile, another album ‘Africano Party’ whose release has been pending since 2005, is also scheduled for release later this year.

Would you stay with a bi-sexual husband?

If you discover that your husband of nine years and father of your three children is bisexual, what would you do.?

This lady discovered in December after nine years of marriage, that the man she thought was her husband’s best friend is actually his lover...lovers even before she married him.

Ever since she discovered, her life hasn’t been the same. For one thing their sex life doesn’t exist anymore, but she’s scared of divorce ‘cos of her children...and the society.

She’s so confused she sent me an email...

Now you have to note that her husband is loving, doesn’t treat her bad, does not flaunt his affair, is sorry she discovered, still wants to remain married to her and take care of their children...only problem is; he sleeps with men.

What would you do if you were this lady? She seriously needs your advice

But my issue is, is it possible to be with a man for nine years and not know about his alternative lifestyle? Do we women have our suspicions but decide to turn a blind eye to it until it’s too glaring we can’t pretend anymore? I'm just thinking; if I had a gay husband, how would I not know? Mehn I'll burst his gay ass within a year...I'm too much of a James Bond not to discover...lol

I'm sorry this is not a laughing matter ;)

So what’s your advice? Stay with a loving bi-sexual husband or leave him?

Pink on being a bi-sexual

In a recent interview, Pink reveals what many people have thought for a long time.

The singer exclusively tells the UK's News of the World, "I'm not embarrassed about being bisexual. This is who I am. Love is pure and I try to keep it that way. This is who I am, what I feel. I think it's unnecessary to draw the subject out, but I think it even more stupid not to discuss it. It seems as if bisexuality is a trend and I should whip up the masses. Well, I don't believe in trends, I just believe in me."

Pink recently reconciled with her husband Carey Hart, but she says "I would also be just as happy with a new women. I'm not complicated, I sing about love in all its shapes, forms and colours."

Soldiers kill undergraduate

Sometimes you hear some things and you can't just understand how it can happen. It's not new really, but it's still painful every single time.
Y'all need to read this very sad story.

Soldiers kill undergraduate for wearing green colour - Daily Sun
Thursday, April 30, 2009

It sounds like one of the fairy tales, but it is a true story of an undergraduate of Akwa Ibom State University, who was tortured to death by three armed soldiers for wearing green colour. The tragic incident occurred in Ogba area of the Lagos metropolis.

The victim, Ajayi Ebenezer and his friends were said to be on their way to a suya spot near Ogba bus stop, when the soldiers, in military camouflage uniform allegedly accosted him.

One of his friends, who simply identified himself as Wasiu, told Daily Sun that he was just passing by, on that fateful Saturday, when he saw three soldiers torturing and dragging Ajayi on the ground. He explained that he tried to inquire from the victim what the problem was, adding that one of the soldiers sternly warned him to leave the scene or be shot.

He said he quickly left spot and saw one of Ajayi's friends, explaining to sympathizers that the soldiers were torturing him for putting on what looked like army uniform.

According to him, nobody was able to stop the soldiers, as they threatened to shoot anyone that tried to intervene.
He said: "We were watching helplessly, as the soldiers dragged Ajayi to the Area `G' police Command, Ogba. People, especially, women were weeping profusely but no one could assist Ajayi, who was shouting that he was dying."Wasiu said he rushed to Ajayi's house where he briefed members of his family on the development.

He said when he and members Ajayi's family visited the Area `G' command, headquarters, the policemen at the gate told them that he had been released by the soldiers.

But few hours after waiting in vain for his return and after searching for him, they received a shocking news that his dead body was dumped at Oguniyi Road, near Pen Cinema, Agege.

According to him, when they got to the scene, they were informed by some commercial motorcycle operators that they saw some policemen removing a corpse. To their amazement, when they got to the Pen Cinema police station, they were told that the corpse had been deposited at the mortuary.

Embittered Wasiu said: " Infact, I am still in shock because I don't see the basis for killing that boy. That he was putting on what looked like army uniform did not mean he was a criminal."

Another eyewitness, Ngozi Onwuka, told Daily Sun that she was in vintage position, where she was hawking oranges when she saw the soldiers asking the deceased why he was putting on military uniform . She said as the victim was trying to explain to them that it was not army uniform, the soldiers started beating him.

She said: "They were hitting him with the butt of the gun and at the same time, kicking and dragging him on the ground. I knew the guy would not survive the beating but I am still in shock over the barbaric act."

When contacted for comments, the Lagos State police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, who confirmed the incident said the case was still being investigated.

I'm lost for words... all I'm thinking now is; what if that was my brother or cousin or friend...how would I even begin to understand or forgive? Where would I go to get justice?
Why do things like this happen in this country?
May his soul rest in peace...
