Actor Pete Edochie Kidnapped

Five unknown gunmen kidnapped movie star Peter Edochie in Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of Anambra State yesterday on Tarzan junction, Nkpo, in Idemili North Local Government Area.

He was said to be on his way to his hometown, Nteje, in Oyi Local Government Area.

They took him away in their Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), shooting into the air to scare passersby.

Edochie’s car, which was abandoned at the scene, has been taken to Ogidi police station.

Reacting to the kidnap, his son, Uche Edochie disclosed that though the incident was obviously financially-motivated and one of many in a string of recent kidnappings of influential Nigerians, the kidnappers were yet to get in touch with the family, much less demand a ransom.

A manhunt has begun for the five-man gang, with the Commissioner of Police Uzor Amakulor, leading the operation.

A really sad thing to happen.

This is SO sad! How unsafe has this country become?
Really pray he comes out of this OK. Coming home to Naija doesn't always look like a good idea. This is really upsetting.

It's not even safe anymore to go to Nigeria, but this has been going on for a while now, i guess since this guy is a popular guy, it made people pay more attention to kidnapping.

I know this is not funny. I remember when I went back home with my father, my uncle, his wife, and two of my cousins, who are American. My father warned all of us that we can't just walk around, because it's not safe. Of course, we all thought my father was exaggerating. Anyway, my uncle was so excited thinking he can do whatever in the motherland. So he will be chilling outside the house, walking to the nearby stores by himself, and even helping random people out. So all of a sudden one day, we didn't see him for like an hour, we looked everywhere, but didn't find him. Imagine, we did not see or hear anything about him for a whole week. We couldn't sleep. Later, we heard that he was kidnapped by some random guys. It was traumatic and devastating.

We were all praying and my father was doing everything in his power. After two weeks, he was released and he came back home. Everything changed about my uncle, he's a pretty big dude, he became so skinny, and he had some scars on his body. When my uncle told us what he went through, he was so much in shock and thought he could fight for himself, but he said when one of the kidnappers, gave him a slap, he immediately became so weak, and his big muscles shrank on that spot, that's how strong he said the slap was. The story was so funny, but It was a terrible situation, and I thank God we found him. Now when someone says something about motherland, especially Nigeria, he's like to hell with that.
