The History of Badagry Slave Trade

I'm sure most of you know that Badagry was an important slave route in West Africa during the Slave Trade era.

This ancient town of Badagry was founded around l425 A.D. Before its existence, people lived along the Coast of Gberefu and this area later gave birth to the town of Badagry. It is the second largest commercial town in Lagos State, located an hour from Lagos and half hour from the Republic du Benin. The Town of Badgry is bordered on the south by the Gulf of Guinea and surrounded by creeks, islands and a lake. The ancient town served mainly the Oyo Empire which was comprised of Yoruba and Ogu people. Today, the Aworis and Egun are mainly the people who reside in the town of Badagry as well as in Ogun State in Nigeria and in the neighboring Republic of Benin.
In the early 1500's, slaves were transported from West Africa to America through Badagry. It is reported that Badagry exported no fewer than 550,000 African slaves to America during the period of the American Independence in l787. In addition, slaves were transported to Europe, South America and the Caribbean. The slaves came mainly from West Africa and the neighboring countries of Benin and Togo as well as others parts of Nigeria. The slave trade became the major source of income for the Europeans in Badagry.

The town of Badagry wants to enlighten the world to its historic sites, landscapes, cultural artifacts and relics of human slavery. They are preserving buildings, sites and memories of this iniquitous period so that tourists can unearth the dark impact of this era. Places of interest include the Palace of the Akran of Badagry and its mini ethnographic museum, the early missionaries cemetery, the District Officer's Office and Residence, the First Storey Building in Nigeria constructed by the Anglican missionaries, relics of slave chains in the mini museum of slave trade, cannons of war, the Vlekte slave Market, and the Slave Port established for the shipment of slaves before the l6th century.

Here's a history of the slave trade in Badagry in pictures

Badagry is a place y'all need to visit. I've been there once but didn't get the opportunity to tour the place, but I plan to do so before the end of year. Anyone wants to go with me? Holla at me.

If you learnt anything new today...drop a comment! Kisses! Linda

Bimbo Akintola Quote + Naija Entertaiment News

I realised I haven't done 'quote' in a while, so here's an interview Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola gave recently...
Bimbo Akintola quote

We've been expecting the wedding bells from your side
BA "No wedding bells yet"

Why?
BA "I'm waiting for Mr right"

Are you sure you're not acting expensive for Mr right?
BA "I don't believe that marriage has got anything to do with money. Marriage is finding someone you are compatible with. Money has got nothing to do with it. If you marry for money, you'll run out because of the money. I'm not expensive in anyway. I'm sure my boyfriend can vouch for that"

Is your boyfriend a yoruba guy?
BA "No. Delta"

How long has he been massaging your heart?
BA "Long enough"

So when are going to the alter?
BA "Alter has nothing to do with it. We have a relationship, that's all that counts"

But if you're asked to decide, how soon would you like to become a Mrs?
BA "I really can't say today, tommorrow or next year"

That means you're not ready for it yet?
BA "It's not a matter of being ready or not. Marriage is very important. A lot of people enter into it today and tommorrow they are out of it. It doesn't make sense to me. You go to the house of God and you swear by his name that you will stay with this person for the rest of your life. If I can't find someone that will do that for me, then I wouldn't get married"

What happened with your relationship with Dede Mabiakwu?
BA "Dede and I are better suited as friends. We realised that friendship was better than anything else. We didn't fight. I still go to Dede's house and he come to mine. He is one of my best friends in the world"

Naija Entertainment News

Celebrity Takes 2

Spirit of David presents Celebrity Takes 2, sponsored by Skye Bank. I really don't know the format of the show but I think it's reality TV, with 10 celebs, 13 weeks, 8 dance styles and 1 winner. The celebs contesting are Brian (Mr Nigeria), Omotola Jalade, Zizi Cardow, Pasuma Wonder, Funlola Aiwofiyebi, Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Tara Fela Durotoye, Kunle Afolayan and Nomoreloss. I think it's a dance reality TV show and it will be shown on African Magic and BEN TV UK, so watch out for that.

Mr Nigeria, Brian Ikenna Okpara, is now the face of Glo.
Top TV presenter, Today's Woman Adesua Onyenekwe will on Sunday September 30th, officially launch her magazine called TC. I don't know what TC means but it will a celebration of womanhood and life.

Kanu Nwankwo, Emmanuel Adebayor, Mikel Obi and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were guests of the Bayelsa state government. The players were there to educate the youths to shun violence and embrace sports as a tool for checking militancy.

Harp lager beer faces

Guinness Nigeria Plc recently devised a new means to promote one of it's products, Harp lager beer. And to achieve this, three notable entertainers were chosen to endorse the repackaged product.
The entertainers are: Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, King of the turn table, Jimmy Jatt and BBN winner, Katung Musa Aduwak. Their faces will adorn billboards around the country as the new ambassadors of the product.

Katung

Tee A is getting ready for his Abuja show happening this weekend in Abuja. This same day as Julius Agwu's show in Jos. Those featuring in the Live N naked comedy show include: Ali baba, Gbenga Adeyinka, Basket Mouth, Francis Duru, Faze, Mode Nine, Weird Mc and many more. The venue is the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and it's 30th September at 5pm. Ticket is N2, 000 and N5, 000 vip. Be there!

Sumi Smart Cole turns 66
Veteran photographer, Sunmi Smart Cole turned 66 years old a few days ago. Though he is not throwing a party to celebrate this time, he has however chosen to mark the day with a photo exhibition of some of his works. The venue of the exhibition is the Silverbird Galleria. Will get the date later.

Telecom giants, Globacom, the official sponsors of the Golden Eaglets, days back, in a gesture of appreciation, rewarded the FIFA U-17 Champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, with N47million naira for winning the cup. The players and officials were at the Globacom office to present the trophy to the company and get their reward.

Crack your ribs
Another edition of crack ya ribs, a brain child of top comedian Julius Agwu, will hold live in Jos on Sunday, 30th Sept 2007 at Crest Hotel, Jos. Billed to perform are: KC Presh, Stereoman, Okey Bakassi, Segun Arinze and more. Gate fee is N1, 000 and N2, 000 VIP.

Still on Julius Agwu, he told some Naija Journalist that some area boys of Nigerian origin who are based in London attcaked him shortly after Ruggedman's album launch at the NTYCE Night Club Woolwich, London. He said they made some irrelevant accusations against him and before he could utter a word, all his valuables like necklace, his phone and a wallet containing his Visa ticket were collected from him...so we have Naija area boys even in London? Not nice!

King Sunny Ade turns 61

King Sunny Ade marked his 61st birthday last week and First Weekly Magazine treated him to a rollicking celebration at Excellence Hotel and Conference Centre in Ogba. Everyone was there to celebrate with the King of World Beats.

They say alot of celebs have started deserting Chris Okotie's House hold of God. The church is said to be loosing many of it's top members and in quick succession too. They say the reason for this is sorta connected to the pastor's too much attention to politics and the romantic tales trailing him.

They say D'banj and his producer Don Jazzy, are presently working on a multi million Naira events place which they plan to call Koko Island, somewhere on the Island, where D banj will be performing every month and would also be available to people who want to host shows there. Good Thinking!

Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant
On Saturday, October 17th 2007, at the Cullen Performance Hall, on the Campus of University of Houston, 16, Nigerian girls will compete in the pageant. The pageant, which is the third is an initiative of American based Chinyere Dike. Will keep you posted on this event

That's all the amebo I have y'all today...show some love by dropping a comment or two. Cheers!

Adultery in Katsina

A friend sent me this pictures of a married woman caught having sex with another man in Kitengela in Katsina State last week...

I totally do not condone adultery...but what they did to this woman is not only barbaric, it's inhuman and totally heartless...

I wasn't going to post this picture because I know some of you might find it offensive, but this is someone's reality...a woman's tragic story.

Stripped naked and made to walk round her community...because she committed adultery...something men do every second of the day and get away with it...

Pls be warned, the pictures you are about to view aren't pleasant and be sure you're not around a kid, or at work...

Here it is...

This is so unfair isn't it? And I hear this happens very often over there. What can be done to stop such inhuman treatment of women in the Northern States of Nigeria?

Benjamin

Benjamin was a 16 year old SS 2 student who lived with his parents in a local community in Delta State. On Thursday 23rd September, he had an Asthma attack in school. His friends and teachers managed to take him to a local clinic. It took them about 20 minutes to get him from school to the clinic. He went into coma before they got to the hospital. When they got there, the only doctor on duty said they had no drugs to give him, alternatively they tried various measures to no avail.

Benjamin stayed alive for 45 minutes before giving up the ghost.

The doctor, nurse, teacher, his friends from school and his mum watched while Benjamin took his last breath. They couldn't help him. No one could help him. He didn't have an inhaler, the clinic didn't have the drugs he needed. So they just watched...and he died.

Benjamin had wanted to live...he'd wanted to be a rapper...thats why he fought death for 45 minutes.

This sounds impossible to happen, but it did. In this day and age, someone died because there were no drugs available.

The most ironic part of it all is that Benjamin has an uncle who is a big doctor in the US.

It's sad right?

So my question is this: if you're a Nigerian doctor practising abroad, what do you think you can personally contribute to enhance health facilities in your local community?

If you're not a doctor, what do you think doctors should do, or what can you do to help the health sector in your local community?

Nigeria's best rapper? + World's Most Unattractive Celebrities

Who is Naija's Best Rap Artist? I ask this question because Freestyle recently held a party he called the 'Coronation', where he declared himself King of Nigerian rap. There's been a huge debate since then if he really is the best rapper in Nigeria. There are lots of rappers in Nigeria, but only a few of them stand out. Leading the pack are Modenine, Ruggedman, Freestyle and LD, but who's the 'Baba' of them all? Some people think it's Mode Nine, while others feel it's Ruggedman...what do you think?

Question + Nigeria's Next Super Model + MOBO Nominees and winners + Celebrity design lines

What's the best way to end a phone conversation? You know when you really need to get off the phone, and you don't want to be rude by just cutting the line, but you really don't want to continue talking because the person on the other line is either pissing you off, or uninteresting, or not someone you care to talk to, or is boring you to death, or asking or saying silly things etc etc. How do you politely get off the phone without making them feel bad?

Celebrity Design Lines

In Nigeria there are some celebs coming out with clothing line. D' banj I hear has a clothing line. So does Ruggedman, Sound Sultan, Sasha, Ashionye, Chidi Mokeme...the only thing is, I haven't seen anyone wear this clothes except for the celeb themselves and maybe their friends. They can't even be found in any shop...the celeb culture here is a little different I guess.

It's a little different in the US right? The celebs there are making shit loads of money from making their own line of clothing. Maybe one day when I become an A-list celeb, then I'll start a label...I'll call it LINDARELLA! lol!

Anyway, here are some celebs and their very popular design lines.

The Under 17 Golden Eaglets who won the FIFA U-17 world cup have all been awarded with 'The Member of the Order of the Niger' M.O.N, by our dear president, while the officials got Member of the Federal Republic, MFR...a well deserved honor!

God forgive me for telling this story...but here goes...some guy in the US by the name Philip is accusing Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, of sleeping with his wife, one Ruth Okoro...he said Emeka has been sleeping with his wife for over two years..they always got together whenever Emeka came to the US. Hmmm, according to dirty gossip, Emeka was caught in a hotel with the married woman at midnight by the woman's husband. The police had to be invited, other Nollywood actors witnessed the incident in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. It's such a long, messy scandal but y'all need to know Emeka denied being intimate with the woman, saying they were family friends, but another famous actor corroborated the man's accusations, saying Emeka and Ruth had been spending the night together through out the shoot of the movie...So many people were involved, so many things went on...but let's stop here b4 someone serves me...lol

House of Tara nominated
Tara Fela Durotoye, a pioneer make up artist would soon be cgetting another accolade as she has been shortlisted for the Africa SME Awards in Johannesburg, SA. The house of Tara was the only SME company nominated from Nigeria in that category. Kudos to her!

Younger Men/Older women + Mariam Imran

In my modelling agency I do a lot of ushering. Events and weddings...most times I don't attend this weddings, I get my younger sis and another assistant who are in charge of the modeling agency to handle the selection of models, their costumes etc. But in the last one month or so, I've allowed myself to attend some of this weddings just to see how my models work....hmmm...this brings me to today's topic.

The last three weddings I attended...had older brides and younger grooms. Funnily, the three brides were bankers, one from an extremely wealthy family...and most of the guys were...young men from average homes.

I'm sorry to say this but the rate at which older women are marrying our young bobo's this days is alarming.

I'm trying to understand this trend. What do this young men want from this older women? What's the attraction? Why would a 25 year old man want to spend the rest of his life with a 40year old woman?...I'm not saying it's wrong but what gives? Older women love better? They take care of them better? Could it really be love?

My best friend marrying in November is marrying a woman older than him by a year. My cousin is dating a woman four years his senior...I know a few guys whose wives and girlfriends are much older...in fact, an old classmate of mine married a woman in her fifties. When I saw their wedding pix and the two of them locking lips...awww...it was painful to watch lol. He's just 29...looking for a better life...with a 50+ old woman...who has a four year grand son...tragic!

So here I was discussing the issue with one of the closest male friends...and he said you go where love takes you...apparently love took him to a woman two years his senior...not you too I thought! What's going on? Then he said older women treat their men better...excuse me? Older women treat their men better? Please someone tell me that's bull crap!

There are those who attach themselves to older women because of money...but what about younger men who have more money than the older women...like Usher...this can be called love right?

This Sunday, I went to the Island to shop with a friend. So we got to Park N rob Shop, and I was outside the store waiting for my friend to re-park his car when this very tall, drop dead gorgeous guy walked up to me.

So here I was sizing him up, thinking...what manliness...cute and all. He asked for my number, I gave him my card, I asked for his card, he said he didn't have one but gave me his number. He had a slight British, sexy accent...really cute!

We spoke for about 3/4 minutes...and I was blushing all through..imagine a shy Linda. lol! But there was something off about him...I just could not place my hands on it...immediately! As he was leaving, he did something that got my attention...I called him back and this conversation followed...

Linda "Can I ask you a question?"

Guy "Yeah! What's up?"

Linda "How old are you?"

Guy "21"

S-t-o-p t-h-e m-u-s-i-c...press rewind...did he say 21? I've been blushing for a 21 year old? Goodness gracious! lol.

Guy "hey linda, I got to go, I'll call you when I get home ok?" Then he made to leave

Hey, come back here...come back, come back! Linda "Excuse me...pls come"

The guy walked back to me

Linda "Please can I have my card back?"

Guy "Why?"

Linda "Because I'm 26 years old"

Guy "I don't understand!"

Linda "I'm 5 years older than you"

Guy "So?"

Linda "So, do you have an older brother?

Guy "Yes!"

Linda "Ok, how about you give my card to him and I'll give your number to my younger sister, she's 20!"

Guy "I'm interested in you not your younger sister"

Linda "I'm interested in your older brother not you"

Guy "Do you know him?"

Linda "No, but you can ask him to call me so I can get to know him"

Guy "My brother is 23"

Linda "Oh I see...too bad. You have an uncle? an older friend? Anyone at least 10 years older than you? You give them my card...don't call me." I gave him a peck and a wink and I got into my friends car and as we made to drive off...the 21 year old gave me...a middle finger...I waved back at him! The look on his face was hilarious.

I'm sorry, but I don't do younger men...I like them more mature, more experienced and you know more...lol

But seriously, what is it about older women that young men find attractive? Is it really love? Or is there something more to it?

Mariam Imran: World's youngest person to undergo double lung transplant

It is hard to believe that a year ago doctors gave this girl five months to live.

Today, after becoming Britain's youngest recipient of a double lung transplant, Mariam Imran is a picture of health.

The five-year-old was born with cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease that affects the respiratory and digestive systems.

Last year her health deteriorated so much that she had to be given oxygen to breathe.

She desperately needed a lung transplant, but there is an acute shortage of donors among the Asian community

Although the recipient of a transplant does not have to be from the same ethnic group as the donor, people of the same colour are more likely to be a match.

Finally in January a donor was found and surgeons at Great Ormond Street Hospital performed the eight-hour operation.

Now Mariam is back at school, and running around with her friends.

After watching the amazing transformation in her daughter, Faaiza Dar, 25, is urging more black and Asian people to register as donors.

Miss Dar said: "You don't think you'll ever need to know about these things. But people need to have the issues around organ donation highlighted."

Mariam was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at three months.

Her lungs became covered in mucus, and she often struggled to breathe.

Last year, doctors gave her mother the news about her life expectancy.

"I was so scared," said Miss Dar, of Blackburn, Lancashire. "I was shaking and I cried a lot."

Four months later, however, an organ was found and the operation went ahead. Four weeks after that, Mariam was moved to her local hospital where she stayed until April.

"She didn't used to speak very much because she got out of breath easily, but now she's picking up on everything and full of life," said Miss Dar.
"I still wrap her up in cotton wool and she tells me off."

Since the operation, an even younger child has had a double lung transplant.

Black and Asian people are three times more likely to need a kidney transplant than those from other ethnic origins. But they make up less than 2 per cent of deceased donors.

Do let me know what you think about older women/younger men. Cheers!

Russian Serial Killer: Alexander Pichushkin

Alexander Pichushkin has confessed to killing at least 62 people, with the goal of marking all 64 squares on the chessboard. He has been charged with 49 murders, most committed over the course of five years in a sprawling park on the edge of Moscow.
Pichushkin's lawyer, Pavel Ivannikov, said his client admitted all the charges.
Pichushkin himself refused to enter a plea, however, demanding that he be transferred, seeking what his lawyer called a "more comfortable" prison.
Pichushkin, 33, had requested a jury trial, which is relatively rare in Russia, and 12 jurors and six alternates were chosen Thursday. If convicted, Pichushkin faces life in prison.

Pichushkin's first victim was his school friend, whom he strangled and threw into a sewage pit in 1992 because he was "upset" by the friend's refusal to kill people together with him, said Moscow Chief Prosecutor Yuri Syomin.

He began his series of killings in Bittsa Park in southwestern Moscow, which terrorized the capital, in May 2001, Syomin said. Most of the victims were men, whom Pichushkin had lured to the park with the promise of a drink of vodka to mourn the death of his nonexistent "beloved" dog.

Alexander Pichushkin looks on from behind a glass security cage during the first day of his trial in Moscow.

Pichushkin killed 11 people in 2001, including six in one month, prosecutors said. He killed about 40 of his first victims by throwing them into a sewage pit, and in a few cases strangled or shot them in the head with "a self-made device."

From 2005, he beganPichushkin was arrested in June 2006 after police found his name and phone number on a piece of paper that a woman who was killed in the park had left for her son. He denied involvement at first, but then confessed to the murder after police confronted him with video from a subway surveillance camera that showed him accompanying the victim, according to the authorities. to kill with "particular cruelty," hitting his intoxicated victims multiple times in the head with a hammer, then sticking an unfinished bottle of vodka into their broken skulls, prosecutors said Friday. He also no longer tried to conceal the bodies, leaving them at the crime scene, they said.

"For me, a life without murder is like a life without food for you," Pichushkin bragged in his TV confession. "I felt like the father of all these people, since it was I who opened the door for them to another world."

Experts at the Serbsky Institute, Russia's main psychiatric clinic, have found Pichushkin sane.Russian media, including the government-run Rossisskaya Gazeta, have speculated that Pichushkin may have been motivated by a macabre competition with Russia's most notorious serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo, who was convicted in 1992 of killing 52 children and young women in 12 years.

A man accused of killing dozens of people and keeping count of them on a chessboard lured most of his victims by offering them vodka to mourn the death of a nonexistent dog, prosecutors said at his murder trial Friday.

Sports Most Spectacular Divorces

1. Greg and Laura Norman
This divorce ranks first for two reasons: The sheer size of the settlement and the fact that another celebrity (tennis legend Chris Evert) was cast in the role of home-wrecker.
As a golfer, personality, course designer and entrepreneur, Norman amassed a fortune of $300-500 million during his marriage — depending on which media estimate you believe. Various media reports estimated Laura's settlement at between $100 million and $200 million.

2. Michael and Juanita Jordan
Michael was just getting into big money when he married Juanita, then a bank officer, in 1989. He earned in the range of $350 million during the 17 years they were together, which put her in line for at least $150 million.
Juanita originally filed for divorce back in 2002, but withdrew the petition so they could attempt reconciliation. That failed and the couple divorced last year. The split came after Michael's former lover, Karla Knafel, sued him for failing to deliver $5 million as promised for not filing a paternity suit and going public about their affair. She claimed their affair began just three months after the Jordans married (ouch) and that the marriage was a "business arrangement" (ouch again) suggested by his agent.
With these allegations already in play, Juanita was able to stay on the high road to her settlement.

3. Michael and Jean Strahan
This was the perfect storm of sports divorces. Michael, an all-pro defensive end for the New York Giants, saw his split covered in exhaustive detail by the New York City tabloids.
Both sides hired powerful attorneys. Both sides went public with ugly allegations, feeding gossip mongers. After the end of the two-year struggle, Jean got the $15.3 million her prenuptial agreement called for. She also got $200,000 in child support and up to 90 percent of their kids' tuition covered.
Among the lowlights: Michael accused Jean of stealing money from him. Jean accused Michael of assaulting her before they were married and running off with mistresses (including one known as "Cupcake") after their marriage.

4. Jeff and Brooke Gordon
For the better part of eight years, they were the squeaky-clean couple NASCAR fans loved to hate. But then Brooke filed for divorce, citing marital misconduct. The ensuing struggle caused him much grief but earned him some street cred with the public.
He estimated his fortune at $48 million. Jeff argued that he deserved the lion's share of that, since he risked his life racing. Brooke, a former "Miss Winston," countered by claiming credit for his significant marketing success — and by arguing that his worth was actually much higher.

5. Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe
The brief union of these cultural icons captured the imagination of Americans long before the invention of the E! network. When they honeymooned in Japan, 100,000 American troops greeted them. This led to their famous exchange:
Monroe: "You never heard such cheering."
DiMaggio: "Yes, I have."
Alas, Marilyn loved the Hollywood lifestyle. Joe became consumed with jealousy. The marriage ended badly; Marilyn filed for divorce after just 274 days, citing emotional cruelty.
Joe remained protective of Marilyn, though, and tried to her guide her out of her subsequent emotional tailspin. After her death, he handled the funeral arrangement, barred Hollywood types from the ceremony and continued sending roses to her gravesite for 20 years.

6. Jason and Joumana Kidd
Talk about a bad ending ... Jason and Joumana held nothing back as their divorce proceedings got under way.
Jason, who made $18 million last year playing point guard in New Jersey, accused his estranged wife of "extreme cruelty" along with various forms of mental and physical abuse. "The defendant's extreme and unwarranted jealousy and rage has left the plaintiff concerned about her emotional stability," his petition read.
Here is a gem from one news account: "According to the complaint, Joumana Kidd used the couple's 8-year-old son on Dec. 27 to sneak into the Nets locker room and rummage through Jason Kidd's locker to find his cell phone. After looking up the names and numbers on it, the complaint said she left her son behind as she went upstairs to take a front-row seat, where she shouted insults at Kidd throughout the game."
Joumana countered by claiming that "numerous liaisons and perpetual physical and emotional abuse" led to the breakup of their 10-year marriage. Back in 2001, he pled guilty to spousal abuse after a domestic incident.
Eventually, the Kidds worked toward an amicable settlement. "It is unfortunate things didn't happen in a more gracious manner, but I have no grudges in any way," Joumana told the New York Post. "My goal is for my kids to always focus on the positives in their father."

7. Mike Tyson and Robin Givens
They lasted a bit longer than DiMaggio and Monroe, which was amazing. Iron Mike didn't leave his rage in the boxing ring; he reportedly bragged about slapping around Givens, at the time an up-and-coming actress.
"She flew backward, hitting every (bleeping) wall in the apartment," he said.
This attitude didn't help Tyson when the lawyers got busy in 1989. During a famous interview on "20/20," Robin blasted Mike while the champ sat by her side with glazed eyes. The marriage, she said, was "torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could imagine."
Media estimates of her settlement ranged from $3 million to $14 million, but Givens later denied getting big money out this brief marriage. She did pile on Tyson, though, with a tell-all book later in her life — detailing, among other things, an ugly assault that occurred during their marriage.

8. David Justice and Halle Berry
Justice was a slugger for the Braves. Berry was an emerging actress, years away from her breakout performances. Their marriage started well enough, but their cross-country relationship eventually strained.
David claimed Halle was overly jealous and prone to tantrums. Halle responded in kind, claiming she feared for her safety. Both made lots of money, so both sides demanded alimony.
Later, Berry claimed the divorce plunged her into depression and left her contemplating suicide.
"After David asked me for a divorce, things got very bad for me," she told Ebony. "I did not want my marriage to end. When David asked me to leave, I felt like my world was coming apart. I said, `What do you mean leave?' I was begging and pleading with him (to reconsider) because I always thought my marriage would be for life. I said, 'Can't we get some counseling?' But David didn't want to hear counseling. He wanted a divorce."

9. Chris Evert and Andy Mill
To free herself for Norman, Evert pulled the plug on her 18-year marriage to former skiing champion Andy Mill. She agreed to pay her ex-hubby $7 million in cash and securities while gaining custody of their three children.
This was still a tough deal for Mill, who previously considered Norman one of his good friends. "These two people have really meant a lot to me for a long time," he told People. "At this point I just wish them great happiness."

10. Shaquille And Shaunie
So far, the two sides haven't fired salvoes through the media. So to stir things, some reporters hearkened back to Kobe Bryant's sexual assault beef and Bryant's allegations of Shaq's extramarital activity.
"I've talked to Shaq a couple of times," Riley said. "I really wasn't aware that this was going to happen. But he will work it out; they will work it out, as most people do."
Given O'Neal's nine-digit net worth — and the fact the couple have had four children together — Shaunie should be headed toward a healthy settlement.

Celebrities find it easy to be green
Charlize Theron
"I like Endstar [makers of parkas, tents and sleeping bags]. The stuff is durable -- and made out of Return Textile fabric, which is partly created from recycled bottles."

Julia Roberts
When the Oscar winner takes her cup of joe on the road, she carries it in a reusable mug. To tote yours in style, use leak-proof wide-mouth 8.6 oz stainless steel thermal bottles.

Maggie Gyllenhaal
"Peter [Sarsgaard] has taught me a lot about passive solar energy. For example, if your house faces south, it gets all the sun and you can heat it much more efficiently."

Salma Hayek
The actress took a shine to a stunning tabletop bowl handcrafted by artisans in Nepal. Woven from discarded food wrappers, the bowl is a chic reworking of non-biodegradable waste.

Kim Raver
"My husband and I want the house we're building to be all green. To start, our energy will be solar."

Parker Posey
"I don't run the water too long when I wash my dishes. I also have a reusable bag from Trader Joe's that I use when shopping for groceries so I don't waste paper or plastic."
Follow Parker Posey's lead and grab a pretty reusable tote such as the 100% recyclable option by Tote Le Monde.

Courtney Love

Nicollette Sheridan
"All my cleaning products are eco-friendly. I especially like Mrs. Meyer's because they're biodegradable, cruelty-free and natural."

Cheating Vengeance + Naija Entertainment News

I heard this story of a married couple. Married for seven years, two kids. The man had been cheating on his wife through out their married years...not with one woman at a time, but with several...she knew of his infidelities, sometimes he wasn't discreet...all their friends and family also knew about his extra marital affairs. So many times, this lady walked out of the marriage with her two kids...she couldn't deal with all the pain, and every time she left her matrimonial home, friends and family and even her husband begged her to return home.

For seven years, she watched her husband move from one woman to another, spend money and time with them and even had a few serious relationships in between...you know the kind of relationship where the guy travels and goes everywhere with the girlfriend instead of the wife?

Well some months back the husband did something that killed this woman's soul. She caught him getting a blow job from someone on the same street they live at...she caught them in their own home...in the living room.

After the girl left, the woman told her husband that she will make him feel just a little of the pain he had put her through for seven years...just a little taste of his own medicine.

That weekend, she packed a few things and left home. The husband thinking she needed some space or wanted to go stay with a friend, didn't ask where she was going.

She came back on Sunday night and said nothing to her husband. The following day, her husband came back from work and found his wife in bed with their neighbour, a single guy who lived in the flat above theirs...the woman knew when her husband usually came home and fixed the sexual escapade around that time. She wanted her husband to catch her in bed with another man.

The husband almost died when he walked into his bedroom, but the woman was not through with him, she told him that she had spent that weekend in a hotel and for each night she was there, she'd invited three of his friends. She had told them she needed to talk and when they came, she seduced and had sex with all three guys...her husbands friends...and it was no fabrication, she really did do it.

Naturally, the marriage ended...the man threw her things out of the house and she gladly went, happy that she did what she did.

When I heard this story and saw the woman, I almost supported what she did...but then I thought about it again...two wrongs can't make a right can it? She shouldn't have stooped to his level, but some people said she's justified and some men deserve to know what it feels like to be cheated on...but I'm thinking, what about the children? What do you say to them when they are grown? What she did was wrong, right? She should have just walked away instead of trying to pay her husband back in his own coin, right?

Someone told me that the most common reason women cheat is because their men cheat on them, so they try to balance the equation...hurt back the way they've been hurt

But is this necessary, to avenge cheating? Who has an opinion about this?

Why do people lie about their age? + Across The Naija Premier + Obasanjo in class

Most people don't like to tell their age, but when they do, they lie about it. I saw a CV yesterday, the date of birth on it was Feb 16th 1980, the ladies driver's licence read, Feb 16th 1978, and her international passport read Feb 16th 1976. We laughed about it but it wasn't funny. According to all this documents she's between 27 and 31 years old...funny huh? The funniest of it all is that she refused to tell me which of the DOB was her real one.

Sometime last week, during a casting, a model told me she was 23 years old, the following day, her older sister came for this same casting and told me she was 21 years old...how in the world can a girl be younger than her younger sister? lol!

In 2005, some guy told me he was 35, only for me to find out later through his brother, that was 43...8 years difference? Freaky right?

There are so many other examples I can give...some of you have experienced such I'm sure, or may you also are guilty? lol

What I don't understand is the need for people to lie about their age...I understand telling people you're a year or two younger than your real age, I understand if you're trying to get into the entertainment industry and you want people to think you are young blood...but in the real world, with real people, why all the fabrications? Why take out 5, 6 , 8 years from your age?

How many of you know your friend's or colleagues real age? Even your partner can lie to you about their age, imagine a wife or girlfriend not knowing her husband or boyfriend's real age,

My question is this: Why do people feel a need to lie about their age? Anyone has a reasonable explanantion? Also, who lies more about their age, the guys or the girls?

Obasanjo in Exam Class

I'm sure most of you know that our former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, is a student of The National Open University of Nigeria, where he's studying Christian Theology. He started classes in June of this year and had his first examination some weeks back...here's a pic of OBJ during the exam...

What the hell is he doing looking into his bag during an examination? Looking for expos? lol! I love this man, I don't care what anyone says, I love him...but seriously what is he doing?

Here's a joke to get you started on the right foot this morning.
GRANDMA IN COURT

Lawyers should never ask a Mississippi grandma a question... if they aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his
first witness to the stand. She was a grand-motherly, elderly woman. He approached her and asked,

"Mrs. Jones, do you know me?"She responded, "Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you."

The lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked,
Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?" Again she replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him." The defense attorney almost died.
The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench. In a very quiet voice, said, "If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you to the electric chair"

Ok...that's all for today...see y'all tomorrow! BTW, where the hell is Bellanaija? Girl you're driving your blog addicts like myself, crazy...Return soon! Take care everyone! Ciao!

“That’s two years in a row, man … give a black man a chance. I’m trying hard man, I have the … number one record, man.”
- Kanye West to the Associated Press on losing at the VMAs again

Perez Hilton's open letter to Britney
I read this on my favourite gossip blog, Perezhilton.com, and thought some of you might enjoy reading this. It's a letter to Britney for messing up big time at the VMA's that took place this past weekend. Hilarious...

Dear Britney,
Fuck you!

FUCK YOU!!!!!!!
We are insulted, offended and disgusted by your “performance” at the VMAs.

Are you fucking serious???

What you did was disrespectful to your few remaining fans. And it was disrespectful to MTV!

You didn’t even try!!!!!

You should have just cancelled, bitch.

Your performance was beyond pathetic. The old Britney Spears, who was at one point (a long time ago) truly great, would be embarrassed by your lack of professionalism and utterly shiteous appearance at the VMAs.

Where was Criss Angel? Where was the magic? And by ‘magic’ we don’t mean any tricks or illusions.

You seemed dead onstage. You have lost that spark and shine that used to ooze out of you!
We all know you lipsynch, but you couldn’t even do that well at the VMAs!

And you barely danced!

You couldn’t even get good hair extensions??????

You have no one to blame for your failure but YOU!

There was no way you were going to be good. You were out partying every night before the VMAs for three days in a row until almost sunrise! You were probably still drunk or high during your performance!!! You almost tripped a few times, you fucking mess!!!!!!!

No bullshit excuse that you or your camp will come up with can make up for how pathetic your performance was.

You heard Sarah Silverman was going to make fun of your kids and it upset you? Deal with it! Rise above it! Or don’t go on!

A true professional will DELIVER - no matter what!!!!

Let’s repeat that. It’s worth repeating.

A true professional will deliver - NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you did was inexcusable!

Your new manager, Jeff Kwatinez, should be ashamed of himself! You have tainted his reputation and everyone at his company, The Firm, should run and hide.

Your record label, Jive, must be thrilled.

You should apologize to everyone, Britney!!!!

You are pathetic!
FUCK YOU!
xoxo
Perez

P.S. Your beer belly looked hot!

We hope you are getting help, Britney. Seriously. Sincerely. You need help! We hope you have a good psychiatrist!

Y'all should see the comment...over 5, 000. I feel sorry for Britney. I hope she gets her life back on track and surprise the people who think it's over for her.

Relationship question! + Madeleine McCann

If your husband of over 12 years, father of your four children, tells you he wants to marry another woman, what would you do?

There's a woman presently in this situation who needs your advise...she's an avid reader of this blog, and is waiting for your comments... please tell her what to do.

BTW, how many people are as shocked as I am that Madeleine McCann's mum is the prime suspect in her disappearance? Are these guys serious really?
I know people do weird stuff and there have been several incidents of people killing members of their family for whatever twisted reason, but I just don't think this woman, Kate McCann, did it...why the hell is she a suspect by the way? Anyone know?

Health

Headaches: Types, Causes, Treatment and Prevention.

I've been having headaches almost non-stop for the past 2 days...don't know why, so decided to find out everything I need to find about this common health issue...for those in the same category with me at the moment, here's a little tip on how to take care of your headaches.

A headache (cephalgia in medical terminology) is a condition of pain in the head; sometimes neck or upper back pain may also be interpreted as a headache. It ranks amongst the most common local pain complaints.

Types

There are five types of headache: vascular, myogenic (muscle tension), cervicogenic, traction, and inflammatory.

Causes

Common causes are tension, migraine, eye strain, dehydration, low blood sugar, and sinusitis. Much rarer are headaches due to life-threatening conditions such as meningitis, encephalitis, cerebral aneurysms, and brain tumors. When the headache occurs in conjunction with a head injury the cause is usually quite evident. A large percentage of headaches among females are caused by ever-fluctuating estrogen during menstrual years. This can occur prior to, during or even midcycle menstruation.

Treatment
Not all headaches require medical attention, and respond with simple analgesia (painkillers) such as paracetamol/acetaminophen or members of the NSAID class (such as aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen).

In recurrent unexplained headaches, healthcare professionals may recommend keeping a "headache diary" with entries on type of headache, associated symptoms, precipitating and aggravating factors. This may reveal specific patterns, such as an association with medication, menstruation or absenteeism or with certain foods. It was reported in March 2007 by two separate teams of researchers that stimulating the brain with implanted electrodes appears to help ease the pain of cluster headaches.

Prevention
Some forms of headache, such as migraine, may be amenable to preventative treatment. On the whole, long-term use of painkillers is discouraged as this may lead to "rebound headaches" on withdrawal. Caffeine, a vasoconstrictor, is sometimes prescribed or recommended as a remedy or supplement to pain killers in the case of extreme migraine. This has led to the development of paracetamol/caffeine analgesic. One popular herbal preventive treatment for migraines is Feverfew. Magnesium, Vitamin B2, and Coenzyme Q10 are "natural" supplements that have shown some efficacy for migraine prevention.

Spirituality

The Rosary: Beads

Yesterday, an accident victim was brought out alive from his car...which was damaged beyond recognition...around his neck was a rosary bead!

I was brought up in a strict catholic home and one of the things my mum thought all of us is the importance of the Rosary...not just praying it, but having a Rosary bead on us 24/7.

Not every Catholic believes in it. I was one of those who didn't think praying or wearing the Rosary was important. I never kept all the hand Rosaries my mum gave and insisted I wear all the time. I always found a place to hide them. At that time (Secondary school days), I didn't think it was hip to have a rosary round your wrist or neck...

It just wasn't my thing until five years ago when an aunt claimed to have survived an accident because she had a Rosary bead in her car. The following day I agreed to wear a blessed hand Rosary, two months later, five years ago, I dropped the hand Rosary and started wearing the ring Rosary, it's been with me 24/7 since then. It's on my fourth finger, right hand...and I'll wear it forever!

I have one in my car and another in my office. For some reason, I feel like it protects me, there are so many evil things on the way that just never touches me, there have been close calls that were averted, bad things that were supposed to happen that didn't happen.

I don't know, I just feel it's extremely important to have one of God's prayer bead on you at every point in time. If Catholic, then a Rosary or Scapula is recommended, if not Catholic, find a prayer bead your church believes in...or maybe just have a bible close to you all the time. I get the feeling this things really work. Not only do you have a guardian angel in your heart, you have it following you around to protect and giude you.

If you've never carried a prayer bead around with you...try it and see the difference.

How do you prove what you can't see?

Someone asked me a confusing question today. He said " You believe something to be true without any doubt in your heart, but you can't see, hear, feel or touch it...Linda, how do you prove what you can't see? Why do you believe what you can't prove? For instance, you can't proove that God exists but you believe he does. You can't personally prove that there are other planets, but you believe in Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Mercury etc, you can't prove the world is round as you don't have the ability to float above it to check, but you believe what scientists say. How can you prove that that really was the moon that Neil Armstrong landed on in 1969? There are so many things we can't prove, but we believe in them. If you can't prove something DOES exist, does that prove that it does NOT?"

I couldn't give him an answer, hopefully most of y'all are brighter than I am.

So the question is this: How do you proove what you can't see? Why do you believe what you can't prove?

If you know the answer, please supply it.

Meanwhile beautiful 41 year old actress, Halle Berry, told press today that she's expecting her first child with Canadian model boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry.

Halle must be thrilled...having the baby she's always wanted and having a very cute baby daddy. I can only imagine what their baby will look like...

Also, Italian Opera singer, Luciano Pavarotti, 71, died today after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year. May his soul rest in peace.

Expecting your comments. Cheers!

Ure "Whatever you're doing and somebody is not in support of it, you just have to avoid the person. Pastor Chris has never been in support of our this union from day one. We were not banned, we willingly left the church"

Okorodudu women at...
According to gossip...I'm scared to relate this news...but...they say that Joan and Data, wives of the Okorodudu brothers are sorta fighting over the model competition...Nigeria's Next Super Model...which was created by Joan...I think! They say Data (CEO, JD7) first came up with the idea of a model search competition, but Joan is putting together NNSM... the only one we know about. But they say the two women will each host their modeling shows at different venues, same day...September 22nd. Data's competition is at the Civic Centre, while Joan's at the Muson Centre...it will be interesting...lets see who invites me first. lol

RUBBING MINDS GETS RELOADED!

On the 9th of September 2007, Nigeria ’s premier news TV Station, Channels Television and leading marketing communications firm for young people, RedSTRAT (organizers of “The Future…” Awards) will be presenting to the nation a brand new version of the quarterly event, Rubbing Minds.

In its second year now, Rubbing Minds prides itself as the only event of its kind in the country. Designed in the fine tradition of modern ‘town-hall’ meetings, it has quickly distinguished itself as the only avenue for young people from a vast cross-section to discuss issues around the social, economic and political, as well as to network and synergies.

Unlike other talk sessions that only manage to draw the attention of students or youths in advocacy, Rubbing Minds has achieved A-list status with its rare ability to pull a qualitative mix - from the corporate environment, business, fashion and style, music, comedy, the academia, the media, politics and advocacy. According to RedSTRAT’s Director of Operations, Adebola Williams, is to make it cool and hip for young people to discuss the issues that ultimately define them, as young people, and as Nigerians. We took up this challenge because of our impatience with the way young people in their 20s and early 30s are being engaged. The fact is, the more you keep presenting those kinds of sessions in a boring, clichéd monotone, the more you alienate a generation of young people who have been exposed to the modern savvy of international debate and politics.”

The first edition of the new Rubbing Minds will seek to counter-balance the expected frenzy that will accompany the 100 Days in Office celebrations across the country. Themed ‘First Impressions’, it will reflect what young people from across Nigeria think about the new president, the governors, and the steps they have taken in the 100 days since May 29. Expected to be as intellectually charged as always, the organizers have promised that the event will maintain its easy ambience and the delicious mix of wit, candor and irreverence that have earned the event its credibility and acceptability. "

The event is billed to hold at rave venue, Planet One, in Lagos , playing host to 250 selected young people, as well as three special guests to be revealed\n in a few days. Even better, this session will be broadcast live ( 4pm ) on the Channels Television network – with a scheduled repeat broadcast. This is certainly unprecedented!

Explaining the new partnership with Channels Television, Williams reveals it was the CEO, Mr. John Momoh “in that unobtrusive way that is his trademark, who, having encountered Rubbing Minds, decided it was to time to put it on a bigger, more accessible platform, so that Nigerians can effectively move beyond empty clichés and begin to really integrate the voice of young people into national issues and the way our country is run. Indeed, people like Mr. Momoh, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun and others who have encountered the work that RedSTRAT does for young people and have decided to give it their full support prove themselves as authentic inspiration for the new Nigeria we keep talking about.” With the irresistible blend of Channels Television’s professionalism and unwavering commitment to detail, combined with RedSTRAT’s savvy and popularity amongst the youth population nationally, the excitement as we all count down to the reloaded version of Rubbing Minds on the 9 of September 2007 is almost breathless! Go away, I'm married!

I'm always either driving or taking cabs, but occasionally I walk...long distances. I love walking, but don't do it often because I'm almost always on high heels. Imagine walking 20 miles on heels...your heels ankle will suffer for it.

So yesterday I had an appointment at Ogunlana Drive, which isn't very far from my office...not necessarily near either. I decided to walk there because I was in the mood to walk...ok sincerely...my car was messing up...so...(don't you just hate that?)

So here I was, above the knee figure hugging dress, cleavage in display, long curly hair (horse hair..wink!), 2 inches high heel, my signature walk...plus that pretty face? Please, men find that hard to resist...lol.

Most times when I'm walking, I get approached by men...I don't know about other women, but within 10 seconds of sighting a guy, I know whether I want to talk to them or not. If I don't want to talk to them, I find a way to get rid of them ASAP.

In the past I used to simply say "I'm not interested in talking to you", but they want to talk to you, so imagine the dilemma. Once, when I was a real biatch (I once was), I'll ask them if they think I'm in the same class with them..."Am I your mate?" I used to ask, and sometimes I won't say a word to them. They'll talk for like 20 minutes and I'll ignore them until they get tired or pissed off and leave. But some heady men don't walk away when you ignore them, instead they walk in silence with you, until when you can't take it anymore and you become very nasty.

Sometimes when the silent treatment doesn't work, I flag down a taxi and leave the scene, when I can't do that, I walk into a supermarket, a restaurant etc just to get rid of them.

Some men are so annoying in their manner of approach, their looks even turn you off, or maybe its the first word that come out of their mouth, sometimes it's the bad English or annoying accent...you just don't want to hear another word.

Some of them have wedding rings on their fingers and they are asking for your number? Those ones I totally ignore...pure waste of time!

So for several years, I kept coming up with several ways to get rid of these guys. Three years ago, I came up with "I have a boyfriend!". That didn't work. Some of these men don't care. That doesn't fizzle them.

Two years ago, I came up with "I'm engaged", that worked for a while, but after sometime, these guys wizened up. They look at your finger, no ring, they either don't believe you or don't want to know...they keep bugging till you almost tear the hair from your scalp.

So last year, I came up with the fastest way to get rid of unwanted attention. I started saying " I'm married". Oh that worked...thank God...immediately you say that they apologise and leave...oh it really did work...UNTIL yesterday.

I told a guy yesterday "I'm married!", he said "So?"

So? Like, is this guy shitting me or what? A women tells you she's married(Whether it's true or not) and you say so? Then he says "I have married girlfriends...can I have your number? Call you sometime?"

This guy is about to see another side of me...mennn!lol. I acted like a real married woman and gave him a piece of my mind...oh men..I turned on my bitchy attitude...it wasn't even funny!

I was so disillusioned because now I know that the 'I'm married' bit won't always work. So annoying!lol

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of these annoying guys in less than 20 seconds? Oh, by the way, the 'I have AIDS' doesn't work either...tried that once and the guy said..."oh, I'll take care of you" not even funny!

Anyone feeling me on this? Similar experiences? What do you do in a situation like that?

Tell us something.

Naija news and gossip coming tomorrow. Cheers!

Question!

Is it right to go through your partners private things? Like phone, documents, briefcase, wardrobe etc? Is it an invasion of privacy or do you have the right as the person's partner?

This is something most of us do, especially women, but is it right?

Share your thoughts.

Happy New Month! + Face of World Nigeria in pictures

When you read inspiring quotes they may motivate you, evoke powerful emotions, and strike a chord with your own thoughts and feelings. In short, they can have a profound effect on you.

Whatever you want to do and achieve, go for it. Take a step forward today towards your goals in life. Only some days will you feel inspired, moved and focused enough to achieve your goals.

Make this month one of those months and pursue what you want with all your heart, body and mind. Believe in yourself and your abilities, focus on your goals. For today, let your desires and ambitions shine. Steel yourself for action and make today great.

It is never easy to face your fears, self-doubts and gain the confidence to pursue your dreams. But it is harder and sadder to look back with regrets tomorrow and in future years on what you didn't do when you had the chance. Your time is precious, so throw caution to the wind.

Just for today, achieve your secret dreams and desires, and trust in yourself. To paraphrase Walt Disney, 'Don't dream it, do it'

Happy new month!

By the way, this is the month of my birth...September!

Here also are pix of Face of World Nigeria Pageant that took place last weekend, courtesy purefoto.com
