Adultery in Katsina

A friend sent me this pictures of a married woman caught having sex with another man in Kitengela in Katsina State last week...

I totally do not condone adultery...but what they did to this woman is not only barbaric, it's inhuman and totally heartless...

I wasn't going to post this picture because I know some of you might find it offensive, but this is someone's reality...a woman's tragic story.

Stripped naked and made to walk round her community...because she committed adultery...something men do every second of the day and get away with it...

Pls be warned, the pictures you are about to view aren't pleasant and be sure you're not around a kid, or at work...

Here it is...

This is so unfair isn't it? And I hear this happens very often over there. What can be done to stop such inhuman treatment of women in the Northern States of Nigeria?

there should be some other type of punisment i agree but at least at this instance i believe the man was also included. It takes two to do it

LG said...

...the man was also paraded naked. Saw that picture too it was gross. Anyway this is not about women only it's about cheaters period!

Please Note: the inhumane treatment is PAN Nigeria and not ONLY in the North of Nigeria.

I think the punishment for adultrers in northern part of Nigeria is WAY too harsh. I hardly hear about harsh stories for the same crime in other tribes. Maybe the govt should step in,nd not let them take judgements into their own hands. Displaying her nakedness is of no use..*sigh*

Anonymous said...

I think it's pretty uncivilized to have them both paraded in such a manner, but then it would be a big deterrent to others. Linda, I must say that you are very intelligent and truly entertaining. I only got to read your blog today for the first time and have read most of your articles. I found the one titled 'feeing unhappy' really uplifting and I sure would be a regular vieer now.

Society should not be involved in things like this.

If they both cheated, the people they cheated on can deal with them.

This is barbaric, primitive and completely unjustified with no place in the world today.

It serves no purpose and this sort of embarassment is just 'reality tv' for the bored and jobless spectators.

I am so pissed off!

Oh please, somebody give me a break. This is just a hedonistic punishment. Those leading the parade are just hypocritical. Deep down in their hearts, they find it erotic to walk around the community with a naked woman. You can see them staring at her pubic regions.

Anonymous said...

OMG!.....only in Nigeria..
i think human right activists should step in........i dont condone adultery, but for crying out loud, there should be other form of punishment!

Anonymous said...

It's disgusting. Only bush people can do this to each other. When i saw it, i wondered why the woman's husband allowed his wife to be disgraced like this, but then again what do you expect from people who aren't enlightened?! I won't be surprised if he was even the leader of the pack.
Although i feel sorry for her, it's also a l'il funny and i can't resist saying, OUCH though...
Also, Linda you don't have to keep apologising for every article you put out. I don't understand why some people attack you for airing your views, afterall you are also a journalist and journalists are meant to report all sorts of issues.
Not everyone would agree with you, but please don't let it bug you; let them go first and attack papers like City People for printing worse scandals before talking to you.
Please keep up the good work jare. As much as there are haters, there are also people that genuinely love you and appreciate your hard work and multi tasking, so way to go girl and God bless you always.

Another Gross Injustice. Infidelity is wrong but should not be a reason to abuse someone's human right, to say we are backward is an understatement.

hey..this is crazy..adultery is not a crime, it might be a moral crime that the individual would pay through personal guilt or through divorce. But, not this. Who gave the people the right? Nawa o!!!

AT LEAST SHES GOT A NICE BODY.

THOSE GUYS FROM THE NORTH ARE BLOODY HYPOCRITICAL. MORE OF THEIR WOMEN ARE COMMITTING ADULTERY COS THEY ARE SO UNHAPPY MARRYING SOME BASTARD ALHAJIS AT AGE 12.

ami said...

well in this scenario, the man was included, but I can guarantee you that if her husband was the one having an affair with some young fresh chick, he would not have to walk around naked. I live in the North, its considered normal for men to commit adultery, that is how some find more wives, others just do it for the hell of it

Anonymous said...

adultery may not be regarded by some of us as evil, but imagine your mum fucking a guy down the block and your wife fucking the local drunk or your husband fucking the local prostitute and the whole world knows ,what then would they be hiding ,married wome and men should stay faithful, criminals getting away with crime soes not make crime legal, capish?

Anonymous said...

Well that definitely is pitiful but what cab you do when people r so stuck on tradition?! Anyway I hope we can one day move past this kind of punishment!

Anonymous said...

This is shameful...This reminds me entirely of the case of Mary Magdalene and Jesus where he asked them to cast the stone...Kettle calling pot black indeed. I dont condone adultry...but let him who say he has no sin...first cast a stone. :(

But Linda dear...

Show the naked people some dignity and cover their faces!!! No person should have their faces with their whole body exposed to the WWW.

Just a suggestion!

Looks like the man is enjoying the parade. Check out his tool (shrivelled up). Free porno movie for the mob hounding them too.

All in all, I think it is a horrible disgrace to the balck race.

.... it is not a gender thing i believe. Whether its one party or both dont make it rite. It dont make adultery stop either. The islamic stand on it is also not such that they are paraded naked. Secondly it reqiures 4 witnesses to such an event befroe a punishment is implemented.
.....Am not sure wat to call that act as two rongs dont make a rite.

Husbands, wifes lets make much more commited efforts to make the institute of marriage rite. It stems from y u married the person u did. Fix the foundation. Pick the rite seed for the rite type of soil, nurture b4 harvesting.

Heinous, hateful, odious, abominable, totally reprehensible. This is most unfair to this couple regardless of the crime. He without sin should cast the first stone.im certainly no advocate of adultery, but then there are so many other sins going unpunished!!!im so ashamed that these pictures generated from naija!!

That's terrible and wicked.
A woman's not meant to be treated like that.
I really lack words to describe what i wanna say but i think that's not meant to be.

Amadeo said...

I could judge this, but every place is hypocritical about most things. I must ask though...didn't they know that would be the punishment? If so I can't really condemn it because they had to take it into account. Plus illegal and immoral aren't the same, but I can't say one is worse than the other.

Chari said...

That is crazy! Do they punish the other men who cheat like this too?
They should do this in America. Ha!

Azuka said...

Two wrongs don't make a right. Parading both parties naked instead of just the woman (or man) shouldn't be cause for celebration of 'equal treatment.' Equal treatment my foot!

It's this insistence of Nigerians on prying into affairs that don't concern them -- in this case consensual sex between two people -- that causes a lot of trouble. I'm sure that left alone, the three parties involved (husband, wife, 'man') would have been able to work something out without any interference...

Yinka Olugbade said...

Man is born free but everywhere is in chain….....against all morality code and in other for us to have a good society, a crime deserves a good punishment.

In the light of the scripture, all the other 'onlookers' in this incident...if you take a second look at the picture, especially at where their eyes are looking at, you'll see that it's not on the man......and the full weight of the biblical law pronounce them guilty for 'lookery'.

In scenarios like this, why is the woman always at the receiving end? It is a cause or something?

On a serious note: how do we judge this evil called - adultery? In the event where it is consensual i.e. if both party wants to cheat on their partners and share the cake, what happens if they get caught? What is the position of the law on this? I mean, there are adultery involving underage in our society - we called it rape, some do it with elderly people, some with husband, wife, or girlfriends of a close colleague. Is it legal for people to pronounce the culprit guilty without having been tried in a law court? Perhaps this kind of street justice is according to the custom and practice of the people in question.

We need to know that there is something about the 'libido' that makes the rest of us as guilty. Let me just say, "a thief is not a thief until he/she is caught".

What I don’t understand is, the way people sometime take the law into their own hand as if they have got no crime record of their own. So long as we all have skeletons in our cupboard or wardrobe, pointing accusing finger...or taking the law into our hand in the heat of a supposedly accused person been led to the gallows is completely wrong.

Kettle calling pot black indeed is the way of mankind. I know that. And this is a general pattern...its not limited to the Africans. Human beings natural want to be live outside of the box....want to break free from divine control even though it is for our own good. You know that sometimes we actually slight God in the process; like when people refer to the crowd as animal or passing judgment of the culprit. When we begin to see other fellow mankind as an animal under whatever guise or crime incur greater punishment from the Creator. Whose crime is more? The man who sleep with another man's wife, the women who rocks the cradle of another woman, or the freethinkers passing judgment and cursing GOD?

If motive is to be used to judge these culprits, I doubt what our position would be discovering that it was after all consensual (whether money is involved or not), or that she I under pressure or he is the one and both not want to give to self-love or become ‘crossed’ opted for what we are now crucifying them for. What’s behind their six, is more than a seven.

i just always wonderd if the muslims in the north( the people) really wanted the whole sharia law thinghy.
because thats wat this is about.
if they do, the rest of us dont have to understand what they deem punishment.
it is real shame though.

it is not only very barbaric but beyond my understanding that the so called civilized and educated human rights activists nigerians will sit and watch this form of unspeakable punishment still go on FOR A CRIME THAT SO MANY ARE GUILTY OF in this god dame forsaken uncivilized country. Where are the group of mammals that call themselves government bodies. I still cannot apprehend such still goes on in this 21st CENTURY!!!! People please wake up !!!

Dear Linda, I,m a 21 year old male who is interested in modelling - photography/runway. I was refered to your site by Dan Foster after telling him about my dream of becoming a model. I am thrilled at your achievements but then male models are hardly given any attention in this part of the world and I really see myself gracing the covers of magazines locally and internationally. Plus I could do with some connections if you get me, especially because modelling is cutthroat and I've got little experiience and just got out of university. I know this is not a comment on your postings but I didnt know how to get to you. your passion for younger models/ FM&B success is inspirational. Would be happy to get a reply Gracias!

Linda, I got this pix too. But you goofed. The unfortunate event took place in Kenya, not Katsina State, Nigeria. Kitengela is a town south of Nairobi. A simple Google check would have told you. I am sure your intention was not to malign the Hausa people of Nigeria. Of course, this ugly spectacle could happen anywhere in Africa, but it is gross to say it happened somewhere when it did not. Please correct the error.

This took place in Kenya not Nigeria.
It's sad but so many of the terrible things often attributed to Nigeria is not actually from Nigeria or anything to do with Nigeria. Often it is Ghana people who go from site to site positing fake things about Nigeria.

Both man and woman appear to have been treated in the same way. if they know the laws and rules governing adultery in their community and they wish to engage in casual sex then neither of them should have entered into marriage.
It is a base and backward way to treat people I agree, but then I guess it will have been driven by religion - and you don't get much baser or more backward than systems of belief.
