MARVIN GAYE: WHY DID HIS FATHER KILL HIM?

Marvin's Lying-in-state

This is one question I've asked myself for years. Why would a father kill his own son? I went digging and this is what I found. Enjoy! Or not

Marvin's sister Jeanne Gay said, "In the past Father had made it very clear that if Marvin were to strike him, he'd murder him. Father said so publicly on more than one occasion."
Gaye's bodyguard, Andre White, told author Turner that the case was in effect a suicide. He said, "He wanted to die, but he couldn't do it himself. He got his daddy to do it."

Alberta Gay said, "My husband never wanted Marvin, and he never liked him. He used to say that he didn't think he was really his child. I told him that was nonsense. He knew Marvin was his. But for some reason he didn't love Marvin and, what worse, he didn't want me to love Marvin either. Marvin wasn't very old before he understood that."
Jeanne Gay said, "From the time he was 7 until he became a teenager, Marvin's life at home consisted of a series of brutal whippings."

Dr. Ronald Markman, a psychiatrist who examined Marvin Gay Sr., had his own idea about the shooting.
"I believe that people kill basically because they're humiliated," he told Turner. "It's not a question of whether you're a pacifist, a minister or a rabbi. It's a question of whether you are capable of being humiliated and whether you are able to deal with that humiliation short of the need to destroy. That day Marvin had humiliated his dad by knocking him down. So you have a 45-year-old man hitting a 70-year-old man. He was knocked to the ground. He got up without a word but he went and got a gun and returned to kill him."
In a jailhouse interview a week after the slaying, Marvin Sr. explained the slaying to the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner.
"I pulled the trigger," he said. "The first one didn't seem to bother him. He put his hand up to his face, like he'd been hit with a BB. And then I fired again. I was backing towards my room. I was going to go in there and lock the door. This time I heard him say, 'Oh,' and I saw him going down. I do know that I did fire the gun. I was just trying to keep him back off me. I want the world to know it wasn't presumptuous on my part."
Asked if he loved his son, Marvin Sr. chose his words carefully before saying, "Let's say that I didn't dislike him."

BEFORE MARVIN SR KILLED MARVIN JR
Marvin hadn't lived in the same house with his father in a quarter-century. Besides the childhood baggage and conflicts over the drug use, sex and porn, two other issues festered in the edgy relationship between them.
Alberta Gay had had kidney surgery in the fall of 1983. Marvin Sr. had gone back to Washington for unspecified purposes, and he refused to return to California to support his wife during her surgery.
Also, Marvin Jr. had learned that his father had sold the family house in Washington during his stay there. He believed his mother was owed half that money, but Marvin Sr. refused to acknowledge that he had sold the property.
Although the men managed to avoid one another most of the time, the physical tension was palpable—so much so that Marvin Sr. told his daughter Jeanne, "If he touches me I'll kill him."

MARVIN GAYE SR
His endless idle time allowed Marvin Gay Sr. to focus on his children.
Although he had given up the House of God, he pressed its many prohibitions on his family. He forbade athletics, dancing, movies, television and popular music. His daughters were not allowed to wear sleeveless dresses, nylons, lipstick, nail polish or open-toed shoes.

He forced his children to observe an extended Sabbath, from Friday afternoon until midday Sunday. He drilled them on Biblical passages and administered beatings for incorrect answers.
All four Gay children were bed-wetters, and this, too, prompted beatings.
Divided Soul"Living with father was something like living with a king, a very peculiar, changeable, cruel and all-powerful king," Marvin Gaye told biographer Ritz. "You were supposed to tip-toe around his moods. You were supposed to do anything to win his favor. I never did. Even though winning his love was the ultimate goal of my childhood, I defied him. I hated his attitude... If it wasn't for mother, who was always there to console me and praise my singing, I think I would have been one of those child suicides you read about in the papers."
Marvin Jr. bore the brunt of the abuse. He could be provoked for the most picayune offenses—when he used his hairbrush or came home 15 minutes late from school.

THE FINAL FIGHT
In his paranoia, Marvin Jr. had begun to stockpile guns when he returned home from the Sexual Healing Tour. He kept a cheap machine gun in his bedroom at one point until his mother insisted that he get rid of it.
For reasons not entirely clear, Marvin gave his father a handgun, an unregistered .38-caliber Smith & Wesson, at Christmas time in 1983.

On the night of March 31, 1984, Marvin Sr. was angered because he was unable to find a document concerning an insurance policy. He stormed around the house and yelled at Alberta, whom he blamed for losing the document.
He was still angry when he awoke the next morning, Sunday, April 1, the day before Marvin Jr.'s 45th birthday.
At about 11 a.m., Marvin Sr. hollered up the stairs at his wife, who was in Marvin Jr.'s bedroom. The son went to the top of the stairs and hollered back that he should speak to Alberta's face if he had something to say.
The father hurried up the steps and entered his son's room. Marvin Jr. leaped up off the bed and pushed his 70-year-old father out into the hallway, knocking him down and kicking him.
Alberta interceded and the men separated. Marvin Jr. returned to his bed.
The father got up and went down the hall to his own bedroom. After a few moments, he returned to Marvin Jr.'s threshold. He raised a hand toward his son, and Alberta could see he was holding the .38 pistol Marvin Jr. had given him.
He pulled the trigger, and shot his son in the chest, tearing through his heart. As Marvin Jr. slumped off the bed to the floor, his father strode forward and fired again. The second shot was unnecessary.
Marvin Gay Sr. escorted by policeMarvin's brother, Frankie, ran to the sound of shots. His wife, Irene, called 911. Paramedics arrived to find Marvin Sr. sitting on the front porch. They demanded to see the gun before they would enter the house. Irene found it under Marvin Sr.'s pillow and threw it on the lawn.
Gaye was rushed to California Hospital. Resuscitation efforts were in vain. He was declared dead at 1:01 p.m.

Please look at that man's face again. He died in 1998. Poor soul

2006 ?
Coming soon. I didn't know Sean Penn won the 2003 Best Lead Actor. I actually thought it was Bill Murray for Lost In Translation. There are TWO actors who I think have done so well in their career but are yet to win an Oscar. I'm talking about Leonardo Dicarprio and Johnny Depp. Hopefully one day, it will be their turn. Hope you guys appreciate this. It took me a whole day to put this together. So tired! Got to go. Enjoy each other

DIDDY AND HIS TWIN GIRLS

Puff Daddy...oh sorry...P Diddy or no...is it Diddy now and his new set of twin girls. A sight for sore eyes. So adorable. It's moments like this I want to get sperminated. Can't wait to have kids. Anyway to the topic at hand, what I want to say to Puffdaddypdiddydiddy is this; Kim's given him three kids...it's time he makes a honest woman of her. She wants to walk down the aisle. She said so herself. After giving him 12 twelves of her life and three beautiful kids...my girl deserves to be called Kim Diddy. Please marry her asap

MICHAEL JACKSON AND HIS KIDS

Paris Michael Jackson looking sad behind the veil

Michael Jackson's kids made a rare public appearance recently. The most amazing but fun thing is that the children's faces were not covered for the world NOT to see. I quess the children have grown up enough to know weather they want their faces covered everytime they go out in public or not. I think Paris is too pretty to hide her face from the world. So what if your dad is MJ? A girl has got to live her life. And see how trendy she looks in her white face cap, jacket and tennis shoes. Prince Michael 1 pictured with big sis looks more like the half-caste they are. MJ is black, their mum Debbie Rowe is white. Cute kids

Prince Michael and Paris Michael Jackson

Prince and Paris in the early days.
I'm sorry but I find covering the faces of little kids annoying and unneccessary. I know he's their father and has every right but for what? These children will grow up one day and the sooner they know their fate the better. They are Michael Jackson's children for God's sake...whether their faces are covered or not...they'll be stalked, pursued, photographed for the rest of their lives. It's sad but that's their truth. And hey Prince and Paris, I"ll trade places with you anyday. Don't like your life? Send it to me
But seriously, this is the first time I'll see the faces of Michael Jackson's kids. Real pretty kids. Pictures courtesy Perezhilton.com

AMERICAN IDOL JUDGES

What do you guys think about the American Idol judges? You think the owners of the competition made the best pick? And who's your favourite? How well do you know these Judges? Check out a little something I found out about them

American Idol Judges

Simon Cowell

Simon was born in 1959 to Eric and Julie Cowell in Brighton East Sussex, England. He's an Enlish artist and an executive for Sony BMG in the UK.
He is notorious for his unsparingly blunt and often controversial criticism of the contestants. He is known for combining activities in the television and music industries, having produced singles and records for various television characters such as the Power Rangers.

Four notable oversights of Cowell's are that he auditioned the Spice Girls but was not interested, turning down Take That, deciding that songwriter and front man Gary Barlow was too fat to be a star, and just this past season of American Idol, he passed on Taylor Hicks who went on to become season five's American Idol winner.

Cowell became a judge on the first season of Pop Idol in the year of 2001, and did the same for American Idol in 2002 and his acerbic style of judging was a major reason for these shows becoming popular. This was especially so for American Idol, where in its first season, talk about "that nasty guy Simon" gained the show media attention, more so than the hosts or contestants. Cowell's fame (or infamy) grew, fed by his deliberately insincere signature phrase, "I don't mean to be rude, but …", inevitably followed by an unsparing denigration of the contestant's talents, personality, or even physical appearance. One from 2005 was "You look like the Incredible Hulk's wife." Cowell also appeared on the one-off World Idol program in 2003, where it became clear that each country's version of the Idol had attempted to come up with its own "Simon Cowell", further proving his effectiveness as a villain. In 2003, Cowell placed #33 on Channel 4's list of the all-time 100 Worst Britons perhaps due to some people perceiving him as spiteful and arrogant. Cowell's S Records signed the top two finishers of the first season of Pop Idol, Will Young and Gareth Gates, both of whom went on to have #1 UK hits.

In June 2003, Cowell sold his half-share in S Records for $42 million to BMG, thus becoming a multi-millionaire.

Paula Abdul
Paula Julie Abdul was born June 19, 1962 in California to Harry and Lorraine Abdulis. She's an American Grammy -winning, multi-platinum singer, choreographer, dancer and actress. In the 1980s, her career rose rapidly, from being a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers to being a highly sought-after choreographer at the height of the music video era, then to being a pop music singer with a string of top hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s. After that she suffered a series of reverses in her professional and personal life, until she found renewed fame and success in the 2000s as a judge on the highly rated television series American Idol.

Abdul went on to serve as the choreographer for the 1980s videos of singer Janet Jackson. She also choreographed music videos for Duran Duran, Prince, The Jacksons, Kool & the Gang, Luther Vandross, George Michael and Dolly Parton. She choreographed and appeared in Michael Jackson's music video "Liberian Girl", and Janet Jackson's music videos "What Have You Done For Me Lately" and "Nasty".

In film, Abdul choreographed the dance sequences in the films Coming to America, The Running Man and American Beauty, as well as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s touchdown celebration in Jerry Maguire, the giant keyboard sequence involving Tom Hanks’ character in Big, and The King's touchdown celebration, as seen in a string of popular Burger King television commercials that aired

In 2002, Abdul appeared as one of three judges for the reality television music competition show American Idol. Abdul, along with fellow judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson, was to evaluate the talent of a large group of young amateur singers, eliminate most of them in various audition rounds, and then judge the finalists as American television viewers voted on which finalists would continue to each successive round, until all but the winner were eliminated. Abdul won praise as a sympathetic and compassionate judge, while garnering criticism for being too sympathetic with "bad" singers. She seemed especially kind when her critiques were compared against those of fellow judge Simon Cowell, who was often blunt in his appraisals of the contestants' performances

Randy Jackson
Music Producer/TV personality

Randy was born in 1956 to Herman and Julia Jackson (No relation to Michael Jackson). He's been in the music industry since the early 1980's as a performer, producer, businessman, bass guitarist, pianist, television broadcaster, record company executive and music critic.

After more than a decade in Los Angeles, Jackson was a respected industry veteran, whose credits included over a thousand gold and platinum albums. His first reaction to the concept of American Idol was not positive. "TV's corny, cheesy, whatever," he told LA radio DJ JoJo Wright, in an interview posted on the deejay's website. Despite his years of experience in the music business, Jackson had spent little time in front of the camera--aside from a 1992 bass guitar instruction video, Randy Jackson: Mastering the Groove, and a guest appearance in the 1990 television special, Mother Goose Rock n' Rhyme. "I've been behind the scenes with all these artists," he said in a Newsweek on-line interview. "I've seen celebrity up close, but I've never really lived it."

Jackson has been a judge with American Idol since its inception in 2002. On the show, he is known for taking a middle road of criticism between the supportiveness of Paula Abdul and the nastiness of Simon Cowell. He has popularized "pitchy" as the way to describe off-key singing. He is also renowned for his heavy use of slang terms, most notably the words "dude", "dawg", and "dope". Jackson sometimes also refers to the group of male semifinalists as "the dogg pound" (though during season five, the female contestants were also included). Widely well regarded in the music industry, Jackson's commentary is generally that of constructive criticism. He tells the contestants what a record company label executive would be thinking, but what the executive would not actually tell them. He also has a very large attraction to the words "All right, dude, now check this out" right before appraising a contestant's song.

I got their Bio courtesy Wikipedia. Later I'll you all what I think about each of them. Have a great weekend

We watch this films, we know who our favourites are...so why don't you do what I did...choose your own winners. It's fun and it makes you feel powerful. Try it

KAYODE KAYODE

Kayode, I miss you beyond words can describe. I still can't believe you are gone. I remember the last time I saw you was at Zaaki's album launch in dec 2006. We sat and talked for hours, mostly about me and the things I was going through. Nobody made me laugh as much as you did and nobody respected me as much as you did. I was always the supermodel to you. Anything else wasn't good enough. You wanted to see me excel in life. You kept pushing me to work harder and you always made sure people knew I had added another feather to my cap. I wanted to be a better person because of you.You always had my back. Even though you're gone, I know you're somewhere up there looking out for me. I'll make you proud, I promise.

My only consolation is that I know you are happy wherever you are.
I miss you so much
Linda

MY FAVOURITE THINGS

There's just so much I am thankful for. So much that I am grateful to God for.
Alot of us have stories to tell, experiences to share but not all of us have the opportunity to do so. Only a few people do and I feel blessed that I am one of those few people. It's one thing to want to share, it's another thing for people to care about what you have to say. I feel people are interested in what I have to say, and for this I feel blessed. I've learnt alot in my short life and I know there's so much more I still need to learn. I've made a lot of mistakes, taken wrong turns, made wrong decisions, ran when I was supposed to stay and fight and fought when I was supposed to have ran. But the best part of all this for me, is whether wrong or right, I did it my way. It was my mistake, my life and so far I've lived it the best way I know how.

Alot of things have helped shape my life. Alot of events have given me a better understanding of our true essence in this universe. Alot of people have made me believe in things I once thought impossible. Life has taught me so much. I dont know that much but I do one thing for sure...never take life or people for granted. Because you just never know.

I want to tell you about my favourite things. Maybe it will help you to know the kind of girl I am? or just help you to get to know me better.

WELCOME TO A NEW MONTH

Welcome to February, the month of love. The month when dreams come true. How many of you had a bad January like myself? Yes I had a bad January because I lost one of my closest friends/publicist to death. How many of you have seen the Denzel Washington film Dejavu? where he could go back to the past and change the future...I wish I could go back to first of January 2007 and somehow make Kayode Fayemi remember to take the right inhaler to work (kayode died on the 10th of January after he had an asthma attack and tried to use his inhaler, but it didnt work. It was later discovered that he went to work with the wrong inhaler). I wish I could change all that happened to me this month but we live in the real world where not all things are possible. On the 21st of last month, I also discovered something that I hoped was not possible. I guess life has so much to teach us all

May this new month bring us all happiness and peace of mind

May all our dreams and aspirations come to fruition

May we not shed tears and feel pain

May God be there to guide and protect us all

And for those of you in pain and hurting, may you be healed by God. May he wipe your tears and heal your hearts. May he take all your sorrows away

And for those of you who have lost hope, God will surprise you soon. He has too much in store for you, he's just waiting for the right moment to bestow his blessings upon you

For those of you who need help, call on to God. He loves you too much not to listen to your heart

And before making a decision, call onto God for guidance. He'll never lead you astray.

And always remember, the difference between your problems and its solution is the difference between your knee and the floor. Talk to God today. He knows it all and he loves you too much

Do have a great new month
linda
