Pastor E. A Adeboye ceases to be Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigeria. During the Ministers Thanksgiving Service on the 7th January, 2017, Pastor E.A. Adeboye broke the news to his ministers informing them that he will no longer be the Overseer of RCCG Nigeria. This brings to fore the focal word for this year - SURPRISE
The need for the action is as a result to the new legal requirements set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria through its Financial Regulations Council, guiding all registered churches, mosques, CSOs etc. It allows leaders of religious organization(s) to have a maximum period of twenty years to lead their organization(s). In retirement, they are not permitted to hand over to their families amongst other rules.
As announced by Pastor E. A. Adeboye, Pastor Joseph Obayemi has been appointed as the new Overseer. Pastor Obayemi until his appointment was the Assistant General Overseer in charge of Finance and also Pastor in charge of RCCG Region 2 (Shomolu, Lagos). He is also a Member of the Governing Council amongst other offices he currently occupies.
Also appointed as Church Secretary and Church Treasurer respectively are Pastor Johnson Funsho Odesola and Pastor Joseph Adelanke Adeyokunnu.
Pastor Odesola is the Assistant General Overseer in charge of Administration and Personnel, Member of the Governing Council of RCCG and also the Pastor in charge of RCCG Region 1 (Ebute-Meta) while Pastor Adeyokunnu is a Financial Controller and Pastor in charge of Lagos province 8.
This development effectively sees the emergence of Pastor Joseph Obayemi as the Overseer of RCCG in Nigeria.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God has its presence in over 190 nations of the world and Pastor E. A. Adeboye remains its General Overseer.
Pastor E. A. Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God have set a standard in the decision to obey the laws of the nation which is the reflection of the scriptural teaching that all constituted authority should be respected.

Yahoo boy, with many private jets and billions, why wont u step aside?
Never knew such law existed in this country. All the same, I wish the new GO a successful reign.
Long live LIB
A Yoruba church. Yet the bulk of the worshippers are not Yoruba.
Ok,nice
Lib addict#just passing#
For real?
What about Christ Embassy Pastor?
I am not really talking about anybody here but the way I see tribalism in the church of God today is really becoming obvious. Among others, Does it mean we don't have ministers from other tribes that could occupy a vital position? I still concur with the word of God that we should not talk against our leaders but our leaders should also reason as we do and make some adjustments. God Bless Pastor Adeboye and other churches of Christ. One love
Absolutely.
A Yoruba church done worshipping there
He sure did the right thing.
PRESS RELEASE
PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE REMAINS GENERAL OVERSEER OF RCCG, WORLDWIDE..
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye remains the General Overseer, Worldwide of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.
A statement signed by Pastor Leke Adeboye, the clergyman's last son and Personal Assistant said the clarification is coming on the heels of misrepresentation of Pastor E. A Adeboye's announcement at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving held at the redemption camp today that the Church Nigeria is now to be led by Pastor Joseph Obayemi.
The statement clarified that the latest development is sequel to the new legal requirements set up by the Financial Regulations Council, guiding all registered churches, mosques, and CSOs.
The regulation stipulates that heads of non profit organisations like churches now have a maximum period of twenty years to lead their organizations while in retirement, they are not permitted to hand over to their families.
Pastor Leke Adeboye reiterated that Pastor Funsho Odesola, will now serve as the new Church Secretary while Pastor Joseph Adeyokunu, is the new Church Treasurer.
He advised all members of RCCG to understand this new structure and go about their service to God and humanity in holiness and soul winning.
He also appealed to members to educate people around them and not spread inaccurate information stressing that Pastor E.A Adeboye remains the General Overseer of RCCG Worldwide.
The fact is that it started as a Yoruba church, so the bulk of people at the top now will be youruba. With time, promotions and death will see other tribes at the top. No need to fret over this
By this, oyedepo too may resign. He has spent more than 20 years as a the leader of the church. Thank God, he can't hand over to his sons again.
ur absense wnt b noticed......
I am never going to worship there again.Yoruba Redeemed church. These guys are jokers.Tribalism is everywhere.
Yoruba.... Yoruba
Ask Google? Lol
Loll.... Sooo unbelievable!! Since when did constitution start applying to churches ??
There is no tribalism here my friend. I wonder when we will drop this shallow way of thinking anyway..
Then your priorities are not right or not well spelt out. If you are going to church because of people not cos of God. So what if the same happens in the church you choose to go to later on.. You will change again. You go come turn church prostitute.
So surprised that the three appointees are all of Yorbua there's Godooo even in the church.Does it mean that all senior pastors and administrators are all Yorba? So Yorba owned churches are as bad as the federal government of Nigeria. Make God forgive me if i have used wrong words.
Its such a shame that everyone is busy talking about tribe and leaving the big issue at hand.when was such a bill passed into law?what concerns buhariz government and the church even a pope dies b4 the papal announces another pope.nigeris is been quiet buhari is weakining the church and sooner or later the islamization of Nigeria will begin
Osinbajo see yourself!we voted buhari becos we had faith that it would promote unity to see a muslim and a christain!but you have forgotten the church!!you allowed such a bill to pass, you allowed the killings of the Christains in southern kaduna continue.the rccg woman that was killed by some muslim boys by the order of an imam no one has been arrested till date.osinbajo osinbajo osinbajo.do not forget who you are because of the position you think you hold.buhariz hellfire is already prepared,ur own go soon follow
I pray that before the end of the year, God will use the actions of PMB led administration to open the eyes of Nigerians to see what is going on in the Church. Tribalism, greed, covetousness and quest for mind control is deeply rooted in the church. Pastor Adeboye is still the GO World wide, but appointed a figure-head to run Nigeria just to meet up with regulatory requirements.
Thats Good
Awww, would anyone fit into the shoes of daddy Adeboye?...retaining all humility and honesty?
The way some people reason self, you need to understand that this is based on spirit leading, its not politics or some group where they share power...abegii
Una don start again?... dee
The person that brought Apostolic Faith Church to Nigeria was Yoruba but their General Overseer that passed on a couple of years ago was Igbo...maybe you all that are complaining can go there.
Keep your mouth shut
*hic*..... I wonder where the government is going with this though.
The FGN through the Financial..... for a non-profit organzation????
What does etc mean.....????
Forget whatever.....and I do not make excues for churches and men of God.....but are we about to witness an attack directly or indirectly on the body of Christ.
It does put control on a lot of things but what is the actual end the "GOVERNMENT" is driving?
indigenization
-D great anonymous now as Vivian Reginalds
A very tribal church! No other tribe in their hierarchy.
Nigerians will be arguing over what is not. You all better mind. Your business
All three appointments are Yoruba. He even has a son as his PA most likely paid salary from the church purse! And my Igbo brothers will still be running to the church. Like Fela sang, they should open sense, open eye and open ear!
Just shut up, do you even know how the church started or do you think he elects leaders without consulting God
If this is true that the federal government has passes a bill concerning how churches are govern I concur. Well done Mr president. A church is actually not to belong to an individual as the growth of d church depends on the contribution of members or else church will now be regarded as a business. The fact is that lots of people dabbled into church as business even when they are not been called by God. Church business pastors are on the increase no doubt, but who am I to judge in presence of God. What am saying here is that a church should not be a family business.
Daddy Freeze how u dey???
But seriously why do igbos fret over a very lil thing and yet they claim to be the bravest of all tribe. In my view, Igbos are the biggest coward. Always quick to cry tribalism, well maybe the war affected them real bad. Y'all better start working on your insecurity issues
But why are those two kneeling in front of the man well rested in the arm chair.
Please shut up
